NJ Certificate Service

2020 Certificate of Good Standing Request Form

I received this in the mail after starting my own LLC. I had been warned by NJSBDC that I would receive scam mail like these. When a new LLC starts, it goes into the public records, so scammers like these take advantage of new New Jersey business owners who are trying to follow all the rules, as they can access the name of the business, the business type, and the date of registration (all of these were listed). I checked with NJSBDC and they confirmed that this is not from any government body and is a scam. The document looked very official and legitimate, so it would easy to be fooled. They said to send $114.50 to get a certificate of good standing. Beware!

  1. NJ Certificate Service

Upon completing the process for an LLC, I received a letter in the mail requesting 114.50. First dead giveaway is this certificate of good standing is not indicated on the NJ State website as part of the process.
Secondly, mailing a letter with a stamp is not how NJ official documents are received.
Third, the address is at the UPS store.
Stay alert folks, scammers are always on the hunt!

  2. Oy vey! Almost got me too

Same story, sent out a letter dated two days after I applied…$ 114.50… coy instead of copy…these scammers are quick but lazy they could of at least fixed that spelling mistake… almost got me for my scheckles! Try again goyem!

  3. NJ CERTIFICATE SERVICE- SCAM SCAM SCAM

A letter came for my daughter from this company and on opening it i question the legitimacy of the letter. It just did not look like an official document, further more she already paid the state to register her business. On during a google search I found this website. Thank you.
DO THE RIGHT THING AND REPORT THEM!!!

  4. NJ Certification Service is a Scam

I just registered my business and within a week I received a letter from NJ Certificate Service (Trenton addres). It looked suspicious, so I tried a Google search which led me to this website with complaints. My red flags about the letter: no legit government website, a typo (coy instead of copy), demand for $114.50 in short period of time, did not address me by my name (used business name), email address is odd. The letter say it is an elective service, but you can get it for less at the official NJ. gov website you registered your business. I was lucky to research info and grateful others reported this scam. Do your part and report too!

  5. Scam Scam Scam! DO NOT PAY!

This is what happens. This “company” accesses the information of newly formed businesses, which is made public online, and then sends these businesses bogus letters trying to dupe the business owner into paying for an overpriced “Certificate of Good Standing” or “Labor Law Poster,” for an absurd amount of money. These certificates are indeed real, but you can get them from directly from the state’s website for much less – this company is hoping to trick you into paying them money to do this for you, then they pocket the difference. Check their address: 1977 N Olden Ave BOX #230, Trenton NJ 08618 and you’ll see it’s just some UPS mailbox, something any person can open up. Do not send these idiots any of your money.

  6. Almost sent it in

Almost sent them $$ then I noticed it was a .com and not a .gov.

Also noticed a typo in the last sentence. States “…will mail a hard coy” not “copy”

Then googled it and found it’s a scam. A simple search saved me $114.50

  7. They are scammers

They are scammers “DONT TRUST THEM” they are FAKE”

  8. New Business...... Scammers, 1.2.3, and go!

never fails, bad enough that the blob of nj wants your money, and so does the scammers.
NJ Certificate Service is a scam,
the address belongs to a UPS Store in Ewing. They should lock these guys up with Hunter Biden

  9. Total Con

Total Con. Lets go to the UPS store where these low lifes get their mail and get revenge…

  10. The Address is a UPS Store in Trenton

I did some research and discovered : 1977 North Olden Avenue #552, Trenton, NJ 08618 is nothing more than a UPS store.

If you put this address in Google, and go to google maps, you can go to street level and see where you sent your money.

I definitely want my money back?

  11. Same thing happed to me…

I received the same form from NJ Certificate Service thinking it was from the state. I sent them $114.00 money order and they sent me the “Certificate of Good Standing” printed on cheap resume paper and the ink was coming off. I was going to call them for another copy. I decided to turn them in and make a complaint to the FTC and BBB.

I also started to receive mail for $100 posters that are required by law to post for employees. I almost fell for that one too…

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get our money back?

    1. Lesson learned to research first

The letter looked very legit!!! I wished I’d did my research before sending $114.50!. I’m crying because I started my business with my own money that I’m saving little by little! The only reason why I started to check the legitimacy was because I received a second letter from a company asking for more money!

  12. I have reported them to the FTC and BBB. These people prey upon ignorance and small business owners and should be LOCKED UP.

  13. Bad scam, require the exact same amount of money

This letter is received as long as any new LLC has been registered in NJ. It is not a government service and their website doesn’t even exist. Totally scam.

  14. Scam

This is a scam company that just sends a letter for a “business entity standing certificate” for $115, that’s not actually required.

  15. After starting my LLC, I received a Certificate of Good Standing request form from NJ Certificate Service. The cost is $114.50. I read the form closely. There was one sentence in the middle of the page: “New Jersey Certificate Service is not affiliated with any government of state agency and this notice is a solicitation for your business.” So the form is honest but NJ Certificate Service counts on you not reading it carefully and sending in your money. They rely on our good intentions to comply with state regulations. However, the Certificate is not always required. If your business does require such a certificate, you can get one from the state for a lot less!
