Capital One Credit

Fraudulent Transaction

Capital One Credit is not a good card for foreign travel. It used to be. Now every foreign charge gets flagged as a possible fraudulent transaction and your card will not be usable until you respond to an email referencing that transaction.

My recent experience involved booking a concert in Barcelona.

The capital one system was so slow that the foreign merchant declined my concert reservation before capital one sent out an email.

There is not a way around being continually hooked up with email to capital one for foreign travel.

They used to have a system in which you advise them of travel dates and travel countries and transactions from those countries in that timeframe would be approved.

Now they decline every foreign transaction until you get a chance to approve the transaction via email.

So you have to have an email system that works in a foreign country and be in a place that has Internet connectivity.

If you are in the middle of Galicia (the northwest corner of Spain) your Internet connectivity may suck.

  1. I too have had nothing but trouble with Capital One and cut up my credit card a long time ago.

I too have had nothing but trouble with Capital One and cut up my credit card a long time ago. Even though I’ve always made over the minimum due each month and always on time,

they kept tacking on over-limit fees and ridiculous finance charges so my balance never went down! Furthermore, they never send email confirmations for online payments or regular statements, even when you sign up for this service. Avoid Capital One at all costs!!

  2. Do you really have to cheat the customers who are paying you diligently, and faithfully?

Listen to this. I’ve had two of my HSBC cards purchased by Captial One last year. I’m very careful to make my payments on time, keep my balances in line and watch my credit. After they purchased my accounts in August I went on-line and set up paperless billing, automatic monthly payments and mobile notifications,

like I do with most all of my bills. In December Capital One moved my do date up by 10 days, increased my minimum due by 10 dollars, canceled my auto pay, and stopped my mobile notifications. When I caught that they had done this I had already been charged two late fees, two “no payments” since I had paid less than the minimum, and been reported late twice to the credit bureau.

When I called them they told me that I should have seen the notice they sent me on my billing statement that they had made these changes, yeah sure, you mean the paper one I’m not supposed to get and the mobile notification that was never sent to me? Tricky! Do you really have to cheat the customers who are paying you diligently, and faithfully?

  4. AVOID CAPITAL ONE AND PROTECT YOUR FINANCES AND CREDIT.

I was in a near panic at this point, being obsessive with my credit score, but not wanting to waste any more time on this woman calmly asked for her employee ID number and a manager to have someone to speak with who might understand that I need to know why they changed the fees on the account without notifying me, and “accidently” sent a bill for less than $10 that I had paid, when I had been a good standing customer with them for over 4 years…

Customer Service’s response – rather than confidently offering her name and id number with nothing to hide, proceeds to hang up on me so that I couldn’t take down her employee ID and have them review the said to be ‘recorded” conversation.

Protect your credit score, and yourself from the stress and anxiety of not knowing what CapitalOne might be charging you and hitting your credit score with…

trust me, there are a lot of other great credit cards out there for travel with no annual fee nor foreign transaction. Use a company that you can trust (like Wells Fargo or Chase).

Even the cards that do have the annual fee are worth it for the piece of mind that you and your finances are in good hands. AVOID CAPITAL ONE AND PROTECT YOUR FINANCES AND CREDIT.

  5. very dishonest person.

I had the CapitalOne Venture card for 4 years for the promise of no annual payment, no foreign transaction fee, and award miles for Travel. First of all, they ran my credit twice on the application – which does negatively affect your credit score – and then could do nothing to fix it.

Then, when that ordeal was done with, and I was excited that I had used the card and built up a little more than 35,000 award points to redeem I discovered that they were next to useless – and far less valuable than advertised. You recieve by far a better offer from United and Southwest Airlines (their miles are worth almost twice as much in actual value compared to CapitalOne,

and there might actually be a flight available to book when you redeem your miles, unlike Capital One. I might have gotten over the fact that I was getting next to nothing out of the loyalty program, since I didn’t have to pay anything to keep the card open, but then there the customer service, who was by far the worst I have ever come across.

I know people are people, and some are worse than others, this woman… after being extremely unprofessional to me, and sending my account to a collections agency for a grand total of $7.25, because they made an “error”….. ,

  6. I am very disappointed with the service I have received with this company.

I am very disappointed with the service I have received with this company. First, they tell me to meet specific requirements and once I do. They don’t hold up their end.

  7. bottom line capital one sucks customer service

I Have had capital one for over 10 years and I dispute 1 transaction that the item was broken and I sent the item back to manufacture and capital one told me they cant refund this because of the manufacture told them they never received it.

bottom line capital one sucks customer serviceCapital One –

  8. DO not go here

Does not provide live people to when you have a problem

  9. love the rewards bonus.

I had some card fraud. Capital One explained how this company has been hitting a lot of people fraudulent charges. They stayed on the line with me while I dealt with the horrible company. I was able to get the charges reversed. This is the main card that I use for business, personal and travel. I love the rewards bonus.

  10. Bad Service Provide

I have been a customer for more that 15 years, never a late payment, I would think that would be a certain amount of gratitude for being reliable, my mistake! Try to look at like this, would you go back to a restaurant that served you a lousy meal, or tip a server that gave you lousy service?

Of course not. If you have a balance on your Capital One card, I recommend getting another from a different company, transferring the balance and move on.

  11. I am paid for what I can do.

It all started with the constant “changing” of the web site. I used it for years for payments and never had any issues, then some one in a small cubicle, came up with an idea, I am confident would give them a “ata boy”, and decided to start requiring additional information from the customer.

I made the simple request to notify the customers by email that there would be a change in the web site. “I can’t do that” is what I was told. From there it has only gone down hill. Being self employed, my customers do not pay me for what I CAN’T do, I am paid for what I can do.

  12. The same applies to Wells Fargo.

This company needs to be bought by another that can manage to deliver customer service. The same applies to Wells Fargo.

Go to Ally if you wish to be treated like a human and with people and management who think before they impose wrong-headed practices.

  13. If you wish to be treated horribly, this is the place to go.

If you wish to be treated horribly, this is the place to go. Cap One ranks right up there with Citibank, Bank of America, Chase and U.S. Bank as places to avoid given their illogical operating practices and procedures. rigid decisions and untrained staff.

On a repeated basis Cap One treats their long-term customers as though they were convicted felons/child predators. There is no one to talk to or appeal to with their arbitrary decisions.

They throw arbitrary freezes into place when purchases are being made in the local area and at stores previously patronized. No human intervenes before the freezes are placed and the algorithms used apparently don’t bother to consult purchase history.

  14. Bad Service.

I paid my Capital One credit card off in full January and to my surprise on January 11th they posted interest charges to my account which had been closed since the 5th of January how is that legal?

On January 7th I showed an overpayment of $22 which they went ahead on the 11th charged me $32 worth of Interest and now I show an outstanding balance of $9.42 what a bunch of crooks well I guess it was their last attempt to get money from me as I have closed my account and all I have to say is goodbye and good riddance Capital One.
