Capital One Credit

Fraudulent Transaction

Capital One Credit is not a good card for foreign travel. It used to be. Now every foreign charge gets flagged as a possible fraudulent transaction and your card will not be usable until you respond to an email referencing that transaction.

My recent experience involved booking a concert in Barcelona.

The capital one system was so slow that the foreign merchant declined my concert reservation before capital one sent out an email.

There is not a way around being continually hooked up with email to capital one for foreign travel.

They used to have a system in which you advise them of travel dates and travel countries and transactions from those countries in that timeframe would be approved.

Now they decline every foreign transaction until you get a chance to approve the transaction via email.

So you have to have an email system that works in a foreign country and be in a place that has Internet connectivity.

If you are in the middle of Galicia (the northwest corner of Spain) your Internet connectivity may suck.

  1. Dont Use

Near perfect credit but go declined, no good reason.

  2. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH CAPITAL ONE BANK EVER AGAIN. If I could give no stars, I would.

I opened a cd in a 360 account online because of the interest rate. I tried for 3 weeks to add a secondary account holder without success. You can only call a customer rep. No chat lines or email option. You can send a fax but when I did I heard nothing back after a week.

So, back to waiting on hold where I was told that because of security concerns I could not add a secondary account holder until my mobile # had a sufficient amount of time to be verified. How long that time would be no one could tell me because NO ONE KNEW.

I guess the algorithm has taken over from the people in the IT dept. The mobile # is the same one that they send me text codes on which to log in online. Should that not verify the #. I finally got so frustrated that I withdrew the $ prematurely costing me a penalty $90, but it I learned a good lesson. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH CAPITAL ONE BANK EVER AGAIN. If I could give no stars, I would.

  3. This does not make sense to me and I am upset at being treated so poorly.

Capital One just notified me that it lowered my available credit – BECAUSE I DON’T CHARGE ENOUGH ON MY CARD! Can someone explain to me why Capital One would take an action that would adversely effect me because I am a responsible consumer, pay my credit card balances in full each month and don’t run up debt?

I highly recommend NOT opening a Capital One Credit Card. They are not nice to do business with. I can’t close the account because doing so would adversely impact my credit score.

  4. I think it time to find another bank.

Used to be Chevy Chase bank in the DC metro area, and it was good. Ever since Capital One bought them it’s been all down hill. Very few ATMs left, the online banking is clunky, tried to set up a new 360 account online and failed. It’s like the two parts of the bank don’t communicate at all. I think it time to find another bank.

  5. They've been unreliable and unprofessional.

I got a credit card with them and are already paying a high interest rate. I’m trying to run a trucking company and i keep getting called for fraudulent use once a week.

I’ve provided my information numerous times and have been put on hold for over 30 minutes just to put gas. Not just is this terrible customer service but I’m losing money and time having to wait on them to run MY company. They’ve been unreliable and unprofessional.

  6. Not rocket science.

They are extremely difficult to work with! They make it impossible for each person to access their own account statements. I have tried to resolve this issue and their response is to “open a new account”. ?? Really? Why can’t we just let both people (JOINT owners of account) be able to download the statements? Seems logical to me. Joint owners = joint access. Not rocket science.

  7. Every time Cap One changes online banking

Every time Cap One changes online banking, I am on the phone with them for hours because of problems with downloading to Quicken. I have several other accounts with other banks and brokerages and have never have a problem. That’s because other banks do updates that require no customer action.

Why can’t Capital One do an update that is seamless to the customer? I think I’ll just take my business to one of my other banks that seem to have better computer techs.

  8. LIES. I have -0- issues with my credit, I just don't have enough credit history.

I’ve had a credit card for 2 years with Capital One have had the same credit line for 2 years, with out an increase. I only got a card with Capital One because they help establish your credit. However, they reel you in by keeping you at the same limit the entire way. I needed to raise my credit score for a home loan.

Now i’m stuck with Capital One because I cannot run anymore credit anywhere else or we’ll have to wait another 6 months before moving. My credit card started off as unsecured, after 1 year and 4 months they finally changed me to secured.

7 months later still no increase from the original $500.00. I’ve always made payment before they are due, never missed a payment or have I ever used the entire $500.00. If you need to establish credit, DON’T USE CAPITAL ONE.

I also looked up the review before applying and everyone said that they received an increase in 6 months even after bankruptcy or they got 10-20 points the first 2-3 months using there card. LIES. I have -0- issues with my credit, I just don’t have enough credit history.

  9. Don't deal with them, shop around!

what a loss of my time and money to accept loans from this bank. They tripled my APR from 7% to 21% within 60 days of purchase between cars. The Rep did not know what to say, only thing on his mind was my phone is breaking and he can’t hear me and kept shutting me off. what a shame!!

I can’t wait to payoff my loans with #capitalonebank and start a new page with other banks! my credit did not change, I have never missed a payment and always paid on time still triple my APR after I traded 1 of my sedans in for a truck. Don’t deal with them, shop around!

  11. yet online wire transfer does not work.

This is an online bank, yet online wire transfer does not work.

  12. no good reason.

Near perfect credit but go declined, no good reason.

  13. Unfortunately

Unfortunately, I had to start over after losing my business and home a few years ago during the real estate crash. The secured card seemed like a good way to get back on track,

however I have been trying to resolve an issue with this company and it has been a terrible experience, very complicated and a total waste of my time.

Totally humiliating and frustrating, They cannot resolve a simple problem. They are very unprofessional and inconsiderate. This companies policies and procedures are geared toward taking advantage of the less fortunate. Please do your due diligence before signing any agreement with this company. Hope this helps someone before it’s too late.

  14. Capital one has great commercials but that's about it.

Capital one has great commercials but that’s about it. I have had the card for about 5 years but the last year has been for nothing. When I fell behind on my bills about two years ago, my card was placed on “suspension”. I set up automatic payments of the minimum amount hoping that i could get back into goo standing.

When I had a little extra I put larger payments down. (I owed 2K total and my max credit was $2600). I learned later that “suspension” actually means that no matter how fast or slow I pay,

my account is essentially closed and cannot be used again. I learned this after making lots of effort to bring the balance down. Wish I had known–would have put the money elsewhere!

  15. Not happy with the services we got.

can’t go any lower then one star unfortunately, they are preditors, had this credit card 2 years, never any balance, pay every month now i am told i will be billed 8.25 monthly just to have the card
