The George Washington University Hospital

The George Washington University Hospital is Scammer

Took sick at work because of a chest pain DC fire took me to GW Hospital 1: 20pm it took more than 2omins to be triage, after triage they place me in a corner MH5 I was in that corner for more than 45 mins before a doctor came, doctor told me I am going to order chest crazy ect. 2 hrs. Later no chest day ect. Only blood taken.

Ive decided to go the bathroom I almost fell a tech caught me and placed me back into bed. 1 hour later a nurse by the name Bella came and said hi, I will be your nurse today that was it, never saw her again. 2 2/1 hours later I saw her walked by never ask if I was okay or if I needed anything. Within 3 hours and 47mins only blood they took from me nothing else. I asked the doctor for pain medication not even that was given to me, I called my mom she prayed for me the pain went away in a little as no time.

At this hospital no one cares everyone just doing their own thing. Whoever is the medical director needs to take a look into their nursing staff attitude towards caring for patients. The technicians work like a hebrew slaves. This Emergency room should. It be functioning like this. This horrible disgusting and people life is at stake. I am actually writing this from the emergency room. Horrible. 31/2 hours doctor ask
ing if I need some tylenol, please I dont need it. Horrible

  2. Dont use this company.

I have a bill for almost $5,000 that I feel is not justified considering the circumstances. I believe GWMC failed me twice: 1. Said I didn’t have any fractures or broken ribs (I had three) and 2. Sending me home, with shortness of breath for the Weekend, without taking another X-ray. I was hospitalize for three days, lost income and suffered severe pain while receiving treatment.

  3. dont trust doctors they steal, kill and destroy

this is the worst hospital i ever went to… obgyn james benson told me i was NOT pregnant gave me a very painful sonogram and i end up having a miscarriage at 4 months ! i request my records from his office and he states that he confirmed my pregnancy and that i went to see him for irregular periods which is all a lie !

i was feeling the baby move up until the day i seen him. he had a student follow him in the process of becoming a doctor and all she could do was look at me amd cry smh i didnt know why until i started bleeding 4 days later .

i bled for 3 whole weeks and my hcg level was still 72 ! no way my urine was negative like he told me and he took 2 sonogram pictures and left out the room ! what are you taking pictures of and the screen was so dark we couod barely see anything ao i dint understand how he could . dont trust doctors they steal, kill and destroy

  4. The urology team rocks!!

I recently underwent a Laparoscopic Robotic Assisted Prostatectomy. In the past I’ve never thought to or had any reason to comment on a person or place, however, my overall experience drove me to comment. I was blown away by the professionalism of the hospital staff and doctors.

It was clear they are out to be the best of the best! The bottom line – This institution should be a model for everyone to follow. The urology team rocks!!

  5. Spent half a day in the ER - and was misdiagnosed and sent home with the wrong meds. Sad.

Spent half a day in the ER – and was misdiagnosed and sent home with the wrong meds. Sad.

Ended up going to Holy Cross ER the next morning. They sent me up one floor to “Urgent Care.” Fast, efficient, and cheaper.

  6. DANGEROUSLY UNSANITARY - DO NOT COME HERE

I was recently diagnosed with a vaginal infection of Enterobactor aerogenes. This is a hospital-acquired antibiotic-resistant species.

Just days before going to GW, I got a clean bill of health from my gynecologist. Then I went to GW several times after I was bitten by an animal for preventative rabies vaccine injections. The treatment included a week-long course of antibiotics,

which wreaked havoc throughout my otherwise perfectly healthy body. On one of my visits, I had a pelvic exam to look into some of these problems. Several days later, I went back to my normal gynecologist and she diagnosed me with this infection.

  7. My daughter was taken to the ER last night by two chaperones.

My daughter was taken to the ER last night by two chaperones. She is on her 8th grade Washington DC field trip. She arrived a little before 11:00 pm and was not in a room for over 3 hours. She was seen by 3 people( 10 minutes total)and given the medicine I had said she needed for an issue she had had last summer.

I could tell by a picture she sent me what the problem was since she had it before. I was told by the chaperone the wait may be long, but never imagined over 3 hours. Then she had to wait over an hour for medicine to take before leaving.

I recently visited a local hospital (central Illinois) and took another daughter for a fractured wrist. In and out x rays and all with a dx in an 1 hr. and 15 minutes. Next day took same daughter to a prompt care facility in Springfield, IL for a cast and another review of her xrays.

  8. This is typical of my experience here. Dr Michael Irwig should try harder to be on time

I’m in the waiting room at GW University Hospital waiting for a doctor’s appointment I made three months ago. It’s an appointment, not the emergency room. So far I’ve been waiting for 50 minutes.

This is typical of my experience here. Dr Michael Irwig should try harder to be on time, or call me so I can do something useful instead of sitting here for at least one hour for every appointment. My time is valuable also. Is a phone call so difficult?

  9. This is beyond unprofessional.

I’m currently here, in the Emergency Dept, been sitting here for over 45 mins with a fever of 101.2 and I still have NOT been seen, yet people who came in after me are being seen!

I have flu-like/Strep symptoms and a high fever and yet I am still waiting to be seen?! What kind of care is that? I’m sitting here in immense pain and crying and running a high fever, why haven’t I been seen? This is beyond unprofessional.

  10. This hospital is terrible.

This hospital is terrible. I’ve only been in the ER, so I can’t speak for the rest of it, but it is a nightmare. I went for a kidney issue and came out with pneumonia. The doctors do the absolute bare minimum to make sure you don’t die, and then they send you home. Pretty sure my blood is still on the floor of room 18.

  11. This place is seriously understaffed.

This place is seriously understaffed. It is a Thursday night, I have been waiting in the ER for 3 hour and they will not give me a time frame. I am urinating blood and considering going home, that is how hopeless I feel.

Also, they make sure to have you sign legal forms and verify your insurance, they are efficient with that, but care is hard to come by. There has to be a better option in an emergency. This ER is not it.

  12. This is not an ER that I would ever return to.

While I understand that at GWU ER there are true emergencies coming in, it was obvious the that ER was used as a walk-in clinic for even the slightest issues, i.e. cold.

Consequently, I waited in the waiting room for well over two hours with a nosebleed that had persisted for 5 hours. Being on two blood thinners from a recent Angioplasty, any other hospital would have seen that as a bigger issue than a cold.

When I was finally taken back, I was on a stretcher in the middle of the ER and sat there for 45 minutes before even being acknowledged.

  13. If I could give a negative rating I definitely would. Stay away!!!!!

My brother went to the emergency room at GW on 11/6, he spent 43 hours in the emergency room even though he had been admitted to the hospital within 24 hours of his arrival. To my surprise this was the nastiest and most disgusting ER I have ever seen. He was in a bed that had blood and poop on it. It looked like it had never been cleaned. During his stay in the ER he was bounce around from hallways to closet size rooms.

There was blood on the floors and other disgusting stuff and no one bothered to clean it. I took plenty of pictures and threaten to go to the media. They finally gave him a descent bed but he was still in the ER for 43 hours. He was released on 11/10 with no answers to why he became ill. If I could give a negative rating I definitely would. Stay away!!!!!

  14. A clinic sent me to the ER because they believed I had appendicitis.

A clinic sent me to the ER because they believed I had appendicitis. I was in the ER waiting room for 5 hours, and was told that there were sicker people waiting, so my wait would be extended. Once taken back into the ER a nurse told me I had a sky high white blood cell count, then walked away. I remained in the ER for 10+ hours as multiple doctors tried to figure out what was wrong.

There seemed to be little communication between doctors, as I had to keep explaining my symptoms. Finally I was admitted to the hospital and brought to a room. Despite having a fever of over 100 degrees the nurses only checked on me every 3 hours or so, and the doctor only came by once.

  15. They sent him home with six perscriptions and never discussed them with him.

I had a bad experience with GW hospital. They barely fed my husband while he was at the hospital for eight days. They would schedule a procedure in the morning and keep postponing it until he had gone all day without eating.

He was already under weight when he entered the hospital. They sent him home with six perscriptions and never discussed them with him.

  16. She seems like a great surgeon.

Visited Dr. Elisa Knusten for a hand orthopedic injury. She treated me with respect and took care of the problem. Lucky for me, I didn’t need surgery, but if I ever do, I’ll be sure to see her again. She seems like a great surgeon.

  17. Run, don't walk from this hospital if you are having any surgery that requires a stay in the ICU!

Run, don’t walk from this hospital if you are having any surgery that requires a stay in the ICU! I recently had brain surgery there and the night I spent in the ICU was no less than a Nightmare that I continue to play over and over in my mind.

From the attending nurses that made serious mistakes in medication causing emergency life threatening results to outright unkindness and disrespect for each other as well as their patients. I heard staff laughing and joking about other patients in their charge. Two nurses flat out lied to my family and argued with one another in front of me.

  19. GW Hospital has become an "ant hill" and you will just be a number to them.

GW Hospital has become an “ant hill” and you will just be a number to them. Every experience at GW reminds you are one of many, many patients. Not good for any hope of personalized care YOU DESERVE as a patient. Surgeries are ALWAYS behind schedule.

The surgical prep room is a joke…like something out of MASH and reminds me of military style care. My 8:00 am “scheduled” surgery was 4 hours late. Did not get a hospital bed until after 9:00 pm at night!! Simply unforgivable. Run do not walk away from this hospital. GW is over booked and DOES NOT provide the quality care YOU DESERVE as a patient.

  20. NOT Recommended.

My aunt was an admitted patient on the fourth floor. The nursing staff is absoulutely incompetent and rude. My aunt wanted a private room because her roommate and guests were very loud. She was told that she would have to pay extra for the room, which she expected.

After visiting hours were over, they told her that she would have to go down to the second floor to pay. She was connected to an iv and was not feeling well at all. When she got down to the second floor to pay, the payment people said that she has to be accompanied by a nurse before they can accept payment.

So, she had to go back up stairs to get a nurse and down again, The payment people apologized and said that the nurses should know better to have sent her down by herself.

  21. Scammer

My review is for the labor and delivery department at this hospital, all i can say is you will be better off having your child at home, not that i would want anyone to try that unless you have the right emergency staff there,

but it was a horrible experience for me,i had my little princess in december and almost lost her,not because she was unhealthy or anything but from the careless nurses and doctors there,i never seen a bunch of kids in my life,

I had to be induce and it was horrible, they treat u like crap, and on top of that as my baby’s head was coming out,one little girl was pushing my daughter back in,as she yelled wait, wait,we are not ready yet,

as they rushed about to find tools they should have already had, which cause my daughter to stop breathing, all i can think of was u got to be kidding me,

luckily me and my baby made it through the traumatic experience, and we are doing just fine, but if i can help someone else avoid this hospital when it comes to your child’s life, thank you

  22. This is more of a torture clinic than hospital.

This is more of a torture clinic than hospital. I had cancer surgery at this hospital since it was the only one my surgeon practiced at. Right off the bat there were issues.

Upon check in, three different check in spots had three different times for my operation annotated (not to mention my name, contact info, next of kin, etc all being different from one spot to the next). When I called before they said my child could come up to the floor level where my surgery was and wait in the waiting room.

When I got there they said, no. So that meant my wife couldn’t come up either since someone had to stay with her since she’s 8 years old. So I say good bye to them in the lobby, not knowing if I would ever see them again. That really pissed me off. Not really the thing you want right before you go under the knife. So I come out of surgery and go to recovery.

  23. I was here when a friend was in the hospital.

I was here when a friend was in the hospital. The so-called receptionist was no help and appeared to be playing video games. He did not have the time or patience to help.

He growled at me to use the phone to call up to the unit. A so-called patient liaison was supposed to come down but did not. I thank G-d that my father, my husband, and I do not live in the city so we will never be in this hospital.

  24. Worst nurses ever.

Also, the nursing staff response time is the worst that I have ever seen at a hospital. When I complained to a supervisor, she was not helpful and short with me. The culture of the nursing staff is just bad. Worst nurses ever.

I was only supposed to be there for two hours and then moved to my room. Well, my surgery ended at 2PM but I was in the recovery room (where kids cannot come in either) till 11PM. Why? Through incompetent administration.

First I was told that there weren’t any rooms available. Then after about 4 hours my nurse in recovery goes up there to find out whats going on. Well, come to find out there are rooms, but the story they told her was that there weren’t enough nurses on staff. So we keep pushing and I finally get a room at 11PM.

  30. Bad Service Provide

the person runs around doing everything else, hands you a cup with no label or name on it, collects it from you while functioning as jack of all trades. there is no chain of continuity and they have no idea if it is your urine or not.

My new pain management center at Holy cross is superb. the level of knowledge and the doctors keeping up with new and old theories as well as the anatomy and physiology of pain is impressive.

  31. Terrible hospital.

Terrible hospital. Our daughter had a fever and we were in town for an event so we didn’t have a doctor to go to. It seemed like around 7 people were waiting, but after 2 hours after not being seen and watching several people who came AFTER us, we left.

I thought the hospitals in Chicago were pretty bad (although Cook County’s ER rates really high) this felt incredibly incompetent. Another person who was registered right before us was also complaining about being “passed over” by several people.

He was told that his situation was more “complicated” than the people after him, so he had to wait. And the answer we got when we asked how much longer than the two hours we waited it would be was “we just had a shift change.” Wow, I would have never said that when I was a waitress–and that was just about food and drink. Yeesh, really low class.

  32. Needless to say, I'm never going back there.

I had gone here for treatment for an STD about a year back. Now Ive heard that doctors treat you like shit if you have a sexually transmitted infection, but I simply could not believe the way my doctor talked to me.

She was cold and sarcastic. On top of that, I overheard my ER nurse talking about having “another dumb college kid (by the way Im 35, certainly not a kid)” outside my room. Needless to say, I’m never going back there.

  33. GWU Hospital is absolutely the worst hospital I have ever experienced.

GWU Hospital is absolutely the worst hospital I have ever experienced. My father is there now and I am horrified by the treatment he has received at the hands of staff. The Doctors are excellent; however, should you be unfortunate enough to be admitted, you’re in big trouble. Yesterday, my father’s nurse didn’t even enter the room for more than 4 hours.

Today, my father began calling out in pain (loudly – and mind you, he has been through several major surgeries without a single pain pill) and we went looking for the nurse. We were told that the nurse was in the meds room and would be with us soon. After nearly 10 minutes, my father was in so much pain, we hit the orange “panic” button.

A woman came on the loudspeaker and informed us that she had already paged the nurse and we should be patient. Can you imagine? My father could have died in that time and they would never have known what was going on. Beware, beware, beware! There are many other good hospitals in the DC area and I suggest you choose any one but this.
