St Mary’s Bank

CORPORATE ATTITUDES

I’ve been with St Mary’s Bank Credit Union…the first in the United States they’ve always been proud to say…for many years. Since 1993 in fact.

When they were simply a Credit Union they were great. At least I thought so.

However, since my banking needs have become more involved than just needing a checking and savings account AND add in the fact they now are considered a BANK and not merely a Credit Union…St. Mary’s has changed for the worst.

It used to be I wouldn’t have a negative thing to say about them.

That has changed immensely. They do not resolve issues correctly.

They do not set up new accounts correctly…resulting in my losing out on interest.

They have “lost” one of my accounts and cannot seem to admit it’s missing…along with the cash the account held!

Weeks later, still not corrected or resolved.

Now, I’m in the middle of fighting for my husband’s life with a brain tumor and the accounts’ issues are the last thing on my mind.

They aren’t proactive with contacting me back so the issues remain and I’m frustrating with them beyond belief.

We WILL be taking our business elsewhere as soon as I have a moment to research and choose another bank or credit union.

Lastly, our home mortgage we took out with St. Mary’s in January of 2015 had been taken out of our checking account twice per month to generate an extra mortgage payment by the end of each year.

Auto payments were set up and yet during the second year they changed it to one payment per month without notice or explanation.

We missed making our all important extra payment (set up to pay our mortgage down faster) and all they had to say is that they don’t do two payments per month any longer and we had no recourse to change it.

It is more involved with how the event occurred but that is it in a nutshell.

No apology for not notifying us, no other options given and worst of all…when we went into the bank at the end of the following year and made an additional payment on our own…they lowered our auto payment during that year so less money got paid…thus eliminating our extra payment we had made…further eliminating our efforts to pay down our mortgage earlier!

I’m done with this BANK. You act corporate after many years of being good to your members…you now lose members.

I absolutely am disgusted by their very CORPORATE ATTITUDES now!

  1. He is extremely rude!!!

St Marys just did an upgrade on their online banking system. I had payments scheduled to send last week and as of today, they had not been sent. Now I have to scramble to make electronic payments.

On the screen it shows taking out of my account on 3/27…no funds were taken out and bills were not paid. Called service rep who advised to resend them. Done…STILL NO Payments going out!! AND still showing a payout date of 3/27 which has already passed by!!

REALLY???? Incompetency at ITS BEST!!! Of course they tell me I am the ONLY one that this is happening too…and I was born yesterday too! I also took out a mortgage with them which was the WORST experience I’ve ever had with any mortgage company!! Took several months after being pre approved to get a closing date.

  2. Scammer

I have loved this bank for years but now I find they are becoming less and less cust oriented. They now charge a fee of 4.00 if someone comes in with a st Mary’s ck and is not a member. 14.00 to make a pmt over phone. My equity line of credit went from 2.5 to over 5.0.

( I realize this is not in their control but back in the day they reached out to me to find a better deal ) I put it on a 0 % cc. I think the push to go online is so strong. I wish they showed they wanted our business and were happy to help us. Pretty soon there will be no need for a bank. A smile. Just a little bit above and beyond.i miss it.

  3. I told them I would close out my accounts and they said ok.

I have been with St Mary’s Bank for over 10 years. I went in today to cash a check for my niece $331.00. I have way more money in my accounts to cover this payroll check. I was told no because it was a third party check. Are you kidding?

I offered to deposit the check and wait for it to clear and I was told no. Don’t understand…never had a problem with my accounts and have way more money in accounts to cover but I am told no. I told them I would close out my accounts and they said ok. I will be closing my accounts in the morning.

  4. I cannot get my money out of there quickly enough.

I’ve been a member here for about 7 years. It’s an excellent bank for your day-to-day deposits and withdrawals. Anything more complicated than that? They will screw it up and it will be Someone Else’s Fault.

I believed them the first time. I mostly believed them the second time. But today? Today I had to listen to a lady (Corene) go on for literally twenty minutes about how “This is absolutely not my fault” long after the problem was fixed. When I made it clear to her that I didn’t care,

she threatened me. She said that if I didn’t stay and listen to her prattle for another twenty minutes, she would put a note on my account saying that anything that happens to it after I leave is Someone Else’s Fault. That’s a blanket statement. They won’t take responsibility for anything.

I have no idea if my money is going to be there when I wake up in the morning. I cannot get my money out of there quickly enough.

  5. If anyone ever approves you for a car loan with this bank,

If anyone ever approves you for a car loan with this bank, do not do it. Worst place I have ever had to deal with. Rude customer service and takes forever for someone to call you back.

  6. DO NOT USE THIS BANK FOR ANYTHING!

I have never conversed with such incompetent people in my life. I am actually appalled. After 4 weeks of back and forth inquiries about my car title after I paid it off they finally tell me that they have lost my title, and that my only option is to go to my town hall to request a duplicate.

MORE WORK FOR ME FOR THEIR MISTAKE. Not to mention the $43 dollar duplicate title fee that I had to pay that they won’t reimburse. DO NOT USE THIS BANK FOR ANYTHING!

  7. This bank is absolutely ridiculous.

This bank is absolutely ridiculous. They request very personal information every time you want any information about an account. They have lost expensive documents of mine, like my mother’s death certificate which I had to replace using my own funds and time.

The customer service is always slow and I constantly find myself waiting to speak with a representative. This bank needs much better customer service, and more structure so their employees can do their jobs to meet the needs of their customers. I’ve had only bad experiences with this bank and I would not recommend it to anyone.

  8. I warn you to never do business with this bank!!

I warn you to never do business with this bank!!! We were going to refinance our home with St Mary’s Bank and every bit of paper work they touched, there were errors on. We had to keep giving them copies of the same information 3 and 4 times as they blamed the computer system. One department does not know what the other is doing.

They sent a very unprofessional appraiser to our home and even that info was incorrect. We paid them $450.00 for the appraisal which was non refundable and this whole process took about six months. We’ve refinanced with another bank and the process was very smooth and took only about 2 months from start to finish.

St Mary’s is still calling my current mortgage holder and requesting a pay off amount which with each call, we get charged $25 for a fax fee and they have called my bank 5 times already and we’ve been done with doing business with them for months now and they are still calling.

Please, if you value your money, time and sanity, DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH ST MARY’S BANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn’t even want to give them 1 star but that is the lowest I could give them.

  9. Terrible service.

Terrible service inside bank on Macgreggor st. Waiting lines are very long. I mentioned my wait time to staff and the reply is slways the same. We don’t have enough staff today. They have several teller posts and yet there were two tellers on the first of the month.

Terrible service. I also on the same day wanted to order more checks after having waited in line 20 minutes to deposit a check the teller wouldn’t take my filled out requisition for the check order I needed to move to a different line and waited another 10 minutes to hand over my form. Come on st Mary’s get it together!!! If I could leave without so much hastel I would . Too much trouble to change Maybe some day.

  10. Very disappointing.

The technology upgrade is a failure. I can’t do any banking online at this point…very disappointing.

  11. This app is not displaying a few important items that I would like to see.

This app is not displaying a few important items that I would like to see… including my personal loan from this Credit Union for$5,000.00 which I would like to be able to transfer cash in between each account back and forth when necessary… it’d be nice to have the opportunity to work with both accounts together and see what is going on with them now and from home today and on a holiday.

  12. I have never had an experience with any business or bank like I have this one.

St Marys Bank, McGregor St, Manchester, NH. – America’s first & worst credit union. I have never had an experience with any business or bank like I have this one. They have caused me undo stress & screw up things so bad. I called them to put a stop payment on a check I wrote from a wrong account & they told me not to worry or waste the money on a stop payment because the check amount was so large that they would reject it for insufficient funds.

They told me to go ahead & write another check out from the correct account & send it out to the person which I did via Fedex. Then I looked at my bank account & they did honor the first check for $12000.00 after they took the money out of my savings account to cover it. Now I sent two checks for a total of $24,000 from two different accounts to this person. This bank is totally incompetent.

I was traveling to Florida and went to put gas in my car using my debit card and it was denied and I immediately called the bank 1 minute before their call center closed for the evening and they said nothing was wrong with my debit card and it must be the gas station I was using it at causing the problem. 4 hours later i stopped for the evening to get a hotel room and my debit card did not work there either.

I ended up sleeping in my car with my dog in a bad area of Georgia in 85 degrees & 100% humidity because all of my money was attached to my debit card and my credit card was maxed out so I could not use it. In the morning I called the bank to tell them my horror story and they checked and said Visa fraud locked my card because I was using it out of state and they said the call center should have checked to see if that was the problem and could have unlocked for me so I could use it, but instead I was left sleeping in my car.

  13. He is a co-signer in my loan as I got a better deal at the dealership with various discounts he qualified for.

I have an Auto Loan with St Mary’s out of Manchester. I live in Maine. I’ve had my loan since the end of. They have been ok, for the most part, except I received a notice that one of my payments was late, yet I had already made the payment. To ensure everything was ok on their end, I placed a call and spoke to a very rude person.

Basically told me it was my fault that the payment processing got held up between my Maine checking account bank (which has free bill pay, so I always use it to avoid fees/sending checks) and St Mary’s.

I get that things happen and I likely should have gone in to my bank sooner to schedule my payment, but they were going to assess a fee until I told them I had screenshots of my banking transaction with the date to prove my case.

Moving forward, I haven’t had any issues, I’ve never missed a payment, etc. Last month I missed a call from them because I was in a work meeting. My father frantically starts tying to get a hold of me, telling me I need to contact the back. He is a co-signer in my loan as I got a better deal at the dealership with various discounts he qualified for.

Talk about embarrassing…yes, he’s a co-signed and obviously if there’s something going on it’s only legal to contact him, however they didn’t even give me time to call them back first! He was under the impression I had missed two months of payments, which sent me into a spiral. I went in to my online banking with my bank and confirmed I hadn’t missed any payments.

  14. This app is not displaying a few important items that I would like to see

  15. Bad Service

BING only has the main building and two other branches listed for Manchester, N.H. , so I called the main # and the woman transferred me over to the D.W. Highway one by the PURITAN Restaurant (it would have been nice if she asked if I wanted the direct dial # for future reference, thus not a 4 or 5 star rating here, but only O.K.) and the man answered in such a slur that I had to ask him what he said, of I guess having said it so many times that he thinks we what? pick it up by ESP!?

Of anyway when I asked if I could just drop by for a box of quarters ($500) would that be alright, or do I have to put in a requisition order like some other bank requires of on early Monday morning for a Thursday delivery by either LOOMIS & FARGO or GARDA, of he said to hold-on for a minute, of it actually like only 30 seconds, of he really meant of a moment, of he checked the vault to see that they have plenty!

  16. They gave me a new card the same day I went in to talk to them.

I am surprised to see so many bad reviews. I joined them when Fleet Bank started charging outrageous fees, if anyone can remember when that was. I had a car loan and had the amount taken out of my account monthly, so there were no fees for that.

Now I just use them for my Social Security check deposits and pay no fees. The only problem is that they were hacked into last month. I got a phone call alerting me of suspicious activity and I had payments stopped. They gave me a new card the same day I went in to talk to them.

  17. do not do it. Worst place I have ever had to deal with.

If anyone ever approves you for a car loan with this bank, do not do it. Worst place I have ever had to deal with. Rude customer service and takes forever for someone to call you back.
