Wow America First Choice Home Club are terrible! Was recommended to them by a friend, and thought OK this will work.

WRONG! IN the process of calling in our first claim- they tried to dispute the validity saying the issue (broken toilet seal) was a pre-existing condition.

Again- WRONG! Nothing re the toilet or any plumbing issues noted in our home inspection done prior to closing.

They offered us $150 towards the repair cost. Seriously? When calling and talking to agents, they are pretty much useless and try to dispute what is said- and even go back and listen to recordings from prior calls to double check what is stated.

So in other words- BUYER BEWARE. They want your 500 bucks up front and will do EVERYTHING in their power to ENSURE your don’t receive a penny for a claim.

Yup- they are a home ENSURANCE company- they ENSURE you don’t get a cent!

    I too wish I had taken the time to read these negative reviews. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY. It is a scam! This company salesman blatantly lied about the coverage they provide. I asked very specific questions about how they handle appliances when they need to be replaced rather than repaired.

    We have a few older appliances that I have yet to replace. I was told that I would receive like for like for a replacement if needed – no hassles. I would not have to jump through a bunch of ridiculous hoops like I did with my previous plan I had for ten years with American Home Shield.

    At no time did the AFC salesperson inform me that they calculate the depreciated value of your older appliance and only apply that small amount to your replacement OR the repair. So, if you have an older appliance, you are not truly covered which is the entire idea behind home warranty plans.

    I am a verified member of AFC America’s First Choice Home Club. Membership started. 3 Year Gold Plan. Membership number CLR-960011810. Summary cost for a 3 year plan 1295.$ . Valdez in Homeland Ca. I don’t not recommend this warranty for your home.

    This has been my experience. Coverage is denied frequently based on depreciation values for your home items. For example, I placed a service request for my oven that will not heat although the pilot is on. I was called back by a member today and denied coverage. ( remember no-one has even come out to look at the oven yet).

  3. I was told that because my heater depreciated in value

    I was told that because my heater depreciated in value, they would only cover 180.00, I would have to cover over 800 to repair it. ( I thought only cars depreciated in value?). I later found out that they cashed out this item. This means it is no longer included as a covered item. Earlier this year they fixed my refrigerator, also cashing out that item.

    I need to find out if they also cashed out a toilet they repaired. I have never had any home warranty do this before, as I have had policies for over 12 years. Read the fine print, PLEASE. My name is Valdez in Homeland CA if anyone needs to verify my membership with AFC

    OMG, NEVER CHOOSE THESE PEOPLE. NOT AT ALL RELIABLE. Went with 2 weeks with anyone helping us at all. Our frig stopped working and they wanted us to call around for help. Are you kidding me? They suck!!!

    Worst company to do business with. Paid $700 up front for a 5000 sq ft home. 2 months later my ac unit wasn’t working. tech guy comes out, sees the unit has been maintained and tells AFC he’s the same but they want it in writing from the contractor. they then authorize the fix for $50 additional on top of my co-pay.

    I then cancel after only 2 months. after 8+ weeks and countless phone calls I finally get Christin on the phone and she tells me she’ll credit my amex for $383. when i ask why not just the pro rata amount of $58/month X 2 months, she tells me the fine print says to deduct what they paid to fix the ac unit.

    Do not get any service plan from this scam club. They will sell you a product and then turn around and not cover. You will be sorry. They offered $150 towards a replacement of an AC unit when it clearly states on the coverage that it covers the part that was broken.

    I will be filing a complaint on every site possible to warn unsuspecting customers. No wander they get crappy reviews. I wish I had known. I am considering a lawsuit for the lies.

    I am only leaving one star because I can’t leave zero. I took a policy with AFC in November when our original policy expired with American Home Shield and the price went up to renew.

    We had been in our house a year and our home had had a lot of unexpected breakages in he first year so we took the platinum AFC coverage as insurance against any surprises. Our water heated broke last Thursday.

    Actually the pipe above it burst an was leaking on the heater. I called as soon as I noticed it and they called back the following day and left the message of a contractor to come and assess the heater. This was the first difference my prior experience,

    I had to arrange my own contractor. I called he company and they said they had never heard of AFC and didn’t do warranty call outs except American Home Shield.

    America’s First Choice is nothing short of a scam. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I have never taken the time to do a review before, but I also filed a complaint with the BBB. If I can save one family from making the mistake of buying this coverage, it will have been worth my time.

    Basically, the way it works is you pay a $60 fee for a service call and then AFC will tell you it is not covered. Dryer will not run, not covered. Dishwasher control panel is fried and doesn’t work, not covered. Central Air is not cooling.

    I paid a $60 service call for AFC to tell me I need to have someone come out to find out where the unit is leaking, at my expense. Finally they offer to reimburse me $150 for the $1500 repair AFTER I have already paid for 2 service calls.

    The only reason that I gave them one star is that a negative star is not an option. One is as low as you can go, unfortunately!

    However, I do have to say that they have live people that answer the phone and they are very nice considering the abuse they must take from angry customers!

    Try AMERICAN HOME SHIELD – they are not perfect, but have 1000 times more integrity then America’s First Choice.

    I had used this plumber before however and knew they were a good firm. It took until Monday calling back and forth for them to send a work order to the plumber so they would come out . I got on he schedule and they came out Tuesday, by which time the slow leak was all over one corner of my unfinished part of the basement.

    I mentioned this to the service center and they said to “call back when the technician was in situ and they would be able to resolve the problem then and there.” The technician came out and said the valve above the heater had failed and it was not a standard valve. I was present when he told the service center this on the call.

    They then said they could not resolve the claim ” because the claims department has many cases prior to yours” Then there was an issue with the fact I have two water heaters which I told them when I was sold the policy. The they said they were likely under warranty and they had the wrong serial number. Then they said the water heater had failed and it was not covered.

  13. Bad Service Provide

    I was exasperated at this point and felt that they were flipping through a book to find reasons to refuse the charge and their response was neither in the spirit nor the letter of the warranty I bought. They offered a good will gesture of $125 against a $1360 repair. I was made to feel like a crook on the make rather than someone making a valid claim on an insurance policy I took out.

    I said at that point I would cancel my policy and save myself the money towards the repair seeing as vice days later all I had was a larger leak, a ton of aggravation and the number of the guy I would have called originally. They said to cancel they needed a certified letter their head office, a $75 cancellation fee and my policy would be prorated from when they received the policy.

    I rang their main office at that point and asked to speak to a supervisor. She called me the following morning and I gave hearth history. She said she wondered why I had two heaters and looked online and my house looked great, i have a lovely home,

    which I felt was way out of the scope of my complaint. I explained i had gone ahead and scheduled the repair being 6 days without water and having a sizable amount of water on my basement floor. She said she wouldn’t cover heaters,

    I explained again the heater had not failed it was the plumbing to it which is clearly covered in all the information I had. I gave her the number of the technician who she called and confirmed. She said she would not cover the repair beyond $180 the cost of the heater and anode in Lowes,

    that the rest of the repair is labor which they wouldn’t cover anyway and that’s was only a good will gesture given as the valve was not standard.

    Terrible Service, Real estate brokers do not recommend to your clients this America first choice home club because when your client request service they will come out saying that the policy does not cover whatever is wrong with what they need.

    My client called with a service request about his heating system and he was told that he need to have maintenance service records in order to cover the repair, if not he have to pay for the part that was broken,

    my client bought this property less than a year ago so he doesn’t have any records.And this wasn’t disclosed to me before I bought the policy.

    WOW!!! I purchased 2 warranties-1 for a rental and 1 for my home. And you are all correct-they don’t cover anything that is older!! The home inspector said everything was in great working order. My 1st service request is 6 months after purchasing this–I just got denied.

    I will now send a certified request to cancel both of the warranties and purchase my own water heater. Never again will I trust another home warranty company. They all have tricks up their sleeves.

    I read reviews before purchasing-and they were not this bad, now I look them up again and they have NO STARS..The service was adequate, but the company itself is a SHAM!!. I will NOT refer this company to any of my friends that are realtors….

    Apparently, the inspection report was correct. This issue was intermittent and not observed during inspection. I wiggled some wires on the control board and the system started working. The control boards are too old and need to be replaced. How much was the cost of replacing the board? $67.0.

    Their contractor said it was motor and fan was broken . They quoted 1006.00 to fix both. Of course AFC did not like that number, the lady on the phone said in an aggravated way “well we need to review this before we can approve it ” as though SHE was put out. HUH??

    It’s me without air ! They refused to pay for the repair- claimed the unit is old and since it will be obsolete in a year … well they will only pay 160 towards the 1006 dollar repair. I was in shock !

    This insurance company will not cover anything, but will take your money. My house was built in 1999 an the garage door which showed as a covered item went bad an they sent out technician which in turn told them the age of my unite an America’s 1st Choice Home Club said they would not pay as it was too old.

    Then why did they take my money for the year an say I was covered, if they are going by the age of items what would I be covered for, right nothing. Do not be fouled by this company.

    I now have a company that will cover old items. I had too lose a lot money because of this company as the garage door cost over $400. which my new would have covered an I canceled the policy which I had for 6months but first month they do not cover you but charge you for that month, other company start the year after the first month an do not charge for the first. Also charged me $75.

    to send me a refund but out of the 6months an fee’s they came up with refunded me only $22.50 out of $247.50 paid for those 6months left. Plus if I new they would not cover anything I would have called around an got the best price for garage door opener but technician was already charging me for coming out so I had no time to look for best priced garage door.

    Stay away from these guys. These guys are a SCAM..stay away. I am told that my AC cannot be covered because it is too old. I have never heard of this before. They came up with multiple reasons and would not fix it. Charged my 60 dollars on top of it. DO NOT BUY THEIR COVERAGE!!!

    This place is a complete fraud. They say they cover your repairs at 100% , but only wanted to pay 150 toward my repair and after I had already paid my 60 service fee… It also took two weeks for anyone to even come out and dont expect anyone to follow up or let you know whats going on unless you call in your self the worst customer experience in my life.

    I really feel like robbed my of my money with no service in return. ALSO WHEN YOU WANT TO CANCEL THEY MAKE YOU SEND THEM A CERTIFIED LETTER JUST TO CANCEL YOUR POLICY!! I GUESS THATS HOW THEY MAKE MONEY BY SCAMMING PEOPLE.

    I joined AFC about 3 months ago and it has been a nightmare. I have submitted 2 requests and they have been denied because they don’t cover them. I had a leak on the A/C line and they did not cover leaks. So, I had to pay the tech to perform the test and fix it out of pocket. I do not recommend this company whatsoever!!

    I purchased my home warranty and today, 5 months later, called to inquire about electrical issues I am experiencing. They were very abrupt and well versed in their responses to my questions relating to the urgency of this situation as I felt we were having power surges or wiring issues and there are 2 babies living in the household.

    I then called and left a voice mail for the gentlemen who sold me this policy and assured me he was my account manager and to call him any time – Mr. Joseph Kearney. No response. I waited 3 hours and called the customer service line again. Once again they were not compassionate to my situation and their answers seemed to be rehearsed.

    They did tell me they would get back with me with the name of a technician by the end of the day. I asked “what is your end of day”? Their response ” 5:00 p.m.” Another voice mail to Mr. Kearney with no response. It is now after 8:00 p.m. And I have had no response from this company.

    Needless to say, my first impression of this company Is not good! Sure wish I would have visited this site and read the reviews prior to purchasing this policy!

    I strongly recommend you NOT use this company! After extensive attempts to work with them, I sent this letter to them. Of course, there was no response. My credit card company assures me that they will get one.

    “Americas First Choice Home Club Representative: Neither I nor my spouse have received a voice mail from you like you stated in your email, and I am very unsatisfied with how your company is handling this service request. In fact, I am now quite wary of your company. If my service issue cannot be resolved, I will initiate the dispute process with my credit card.

    I purchased my policy with you last May, and at the time I paid $495.00 upfront. I was sold this membership and told that if I needed any service for my appliances, I would pay a flat service fee for repair or replacement, as is explained in the contract and on your website. I understand and made clear that some of my appliances are originals that came with my home, and while some of them are older, I was assured that I could rely on your company for assistance with repairs or replacements; I even bought the top-end plan you offered because of this. Your website also states clearly that ‘if the item can be repaired, it will be for the flat service fee.’

    The seller of the house my wife and I included this warranty as a part of our Purchase so fortunately I didn’t spend any of my own money out of my Pocket however whatever the seller paid was in vain.
    This company controls the whole process with making any claims, keeps you out of the loop and finds any clause or way out of honoring you claim.

    We attempted to only make two claims (Keep in mind our home was built in the 60’s) which within our first year of ownership isn’t too bad. Needless to say nothing covered, nothing processed, paid out of pocket for minor repairs (both not exceeding $300).

    When I advised the rep handling my account that I wanted to speak to a manger or supervisor I was denied, I advised them that I simply wanted answers before I took to leaving an hones review online, she then said “we don’t respond well to threats” and ask me to never call again??

    Last thing, I called today to cancel my existing policy and Shantel, one of their customer service reps gave me the wrong address to begin with and told me that I had to send a cancellation in writing. I didn’t trust so this is why I even had to go to their website and found ALL these complains. I wish I had reviewed them before and not fall into this painful experience.

    I entered a contract with AFC Club to buy home warranties for our 7 rental properties and paid them $3000 on Amex for period on 1 year. I was not willing to pay them for a year and wanted to make monthly payments, but the sales person insisted that I must pay for a year which I did.

    I asked him lots of questions by phone and email regarding coverage and refund in case I’m not happy with them since I had a bad experience with another company. I asked him specifically “if I cancel the contract, do you have any fees , or you deduct expenses that company paid to contractor on behalf of us”, he assured me that all I paid for a year will be prorated and I get the rest of my money back.

I argued that the ice maker is part of refrigerator and if that’s the kind of service that they provide,

    I will cancel all 7 properties and she said “let me get my manager”. Manager came to the phone and said since she did not want to lose my business, she’ll authorize the service. After a few days she called and said that cleaning the ice maker is your responsibility and we pay for the rest , I accepted.

    They start well, everything is manual, you need to explain the problem over the phone for 10, 15 min, etc.
