Poor Communication

I am sad to say that our recent experience at Wesley Medical Center may be our last.

For over 40 years my family has used Wesley exclusively for acute/elective medical and surgical care.

My mother was recently admitted to the hospital for an acute illness and the communication between the hospitalist physician and our family was very poor.

In the end, the hospitalist was blaming us for the miscommunication issues when he didn’t explain why he was making the decisions he was making.

When I asked him to explain his actions he became very defensive and started down a he said/she said road to nowhere.

As an attending hospitalist physician, it is his responsibility to ensure that information is conveyed in a clear fashion and to manage patient and family expectations.

As a physician myself, I would never have been so argumentative or disrespectful to a patient or their family.

In this day of HCAHPS scores and Healthgrade ratings, having such a poor bedside manner can have implications for payment to hospitals and physicians.

In the past, Wesley Medical Center was my first choice for healthcare in Wichita–that certainly isn’t the case anymore.

    I have been to several hospital in my life time and your hospital is by far the best your staff are amazing people the only down fault I have found is your head neurologist I had a defibulator removed so that he would be able to do intense studies on weather or not I had a stroke or what was wrong with me and he was quick to judge to insult me and tell me that

    all my sicknesses were up in my head he is more than welcome to contact Saint Francis and see my records what happened to me in 2007 when I had an attack with pancreatitis and I had surgery I spent almost 4 months in that hospital nearly died so for him to tell me that it’s up in my head gave me false hope for cure of whatever happened to me recently I’m pretty sure if I stop taking insulin my sugars would hit Skyrocket so

    I know I’m not making that up in my head I don’t know what kind of doctor he is but I’m very disappointed in your neurologist other than that God has blessed you with an amazing Hospital I will be telling thousands upon thousands of people on my Facebook about your neurologist I’m very disappointed in him I have a lot of people on media across the United States thank you for your service to me and you’re amazing Hospital God bless

  2. If I get a bill from them, it's going in the shredder.

    If I could give a negative review I would. The nurse had to stick me twice to do IV, there was blood everywhere and he didn’t even clean it up. They didn’t let me see the OBGYN as promised, and when I was getting ready to leave, both nurses came to speak with me,

    I let them know I was unsatisfied but I was already leaving and they advised me that the next step is to call security and have me escorted out… obviously I was already leaving. If I get a bill from them, it’s going in the shredder.

  3. Wesley health centers are a NIGHTMARE!

    0 STARS!!! Wesley health centers are a NIGHTMARE!!! How is it that we as patients are not able to contact our clinic/physician? Everything has to be done through a “costumer service” number with RUDE, UNINSTRUCTED PEOPLE WHO KNOW LITTLE TO NOTHING about the services they supposedly provide.

    Today 8-11-18 I called for the most simple thing, the address to the X-ray clinic in Downey. It was supposed to be fast since it was an approved urgent referral. I spoke to Alexis/Alexa whatever her name is. She laughed and hanged up on me twice. I called a 3rd time, and she transferred me from one place to another.

    The attitude of there employees are crappy. Almost every nurse assistant was rude. Out of 6 days and 8 nurses only 2 didn’t treat me like crap because I know the patient health and every medical condition they have and how it effects him. I know what all his baseline vitals. If I asked a question I was treated as I didn’t know anything in most situations.

    I am his advocate, I may not be a LPN or RN, but i have made it my business to know everything about his medical conditions and if something new shows up I will go research it and ask questions until I understand what is going on.

    If I can have a husband with COPD for over 30 years, that is healthy on no oxygen or sleep aides at night because I have worked with his physicians to get him on medications to postpone that as long as possible then don’t treat caregivers like crap because they might not have a degree but they need to listen because we caregivers deal with it every day.
