Optumhealth Bank

Customer Service

forms this morning for my Health Savings Account. I didn’t remember my password so I hit the button for ‘Forgot / Change Password’.

I filled out the information requested and waited for a link to be sent to my email.

No reset link was ever sent. I then tried to log in again with another password option.

I was given the prompt ‘temporary password has expired’ and that I must call into this Customer Support #.

I call into the Customer Support # only for them to inform me that I really needed to call into this other #.

They transferred me, verifying name, social security #, and birthdate each time.

However when they asked me questions about the account that I couldn’t answer (because I can’t get into my account), they informed me that there was nothing they could do.

Soooooo, now I will just never be able to have access to my account? Of course I asked to speak to a supervisor.

After several minutes a supervisor came on the line and said they could get me into my account but would need a call back # and that once somebody could call me back at that # they would be able to reset my password.

Three hours later, I still had not received a call back and had to make a third call to Optum.

Thankfully the woman I spoke to was bright and able to finally get me into my account. I can’t believe getting a password reset is this complicated and so time consuming!

  1. Never Again

Somehow these guys opened an account for me without receiving a single signed paper from me. It appears it was done ‘on my behalf’ through my employer. Still a jaw dropping shock to me. Last time I tried to open an account I was told due to all the anti money laundering laws I had to sign and show ID for all sorts of things.

They (hopefully) closed the account at my request. I asked them to include a fraud alert, but I received no confirmation that this was done.
Best case I now have an open account/close account activity on my TRW. Something I don’t appreciate as it could affect future refinance attempts for my other legitimate accounts.

The worst part is evidently if I don’t let these guys vaccum up my existing HSA I don’t get to use pre tax contributions due to that same employer agreement.

My employer gets one star too. This whole arrangement between Optum and my employer goes against the grain of the ‘you own your HSA and can take it with you’ philosophy.

  2. Scammer

I’ve had a FSA account from one bank or another for the last 7 years, and I’ve had more issues in the last 6 months with Optum Bank than I’ve had in the previous 6.5 years combined.

The documentation process for simple office visits is painful. My card is continually suspended due to their inability to process receipts/documentation in a timely manner, resulting in me having to pay out of pocket for covered medical expenses, resulting in even more paperwork difficulties. Just a few issues off the top of my head:

I had a chiropractor visit denied 11+ times (I only kept the last 11 rejection letters, but it’s probably closer to 18) for “no documentation”, even though I uploaded my insurance’s EOB and a payment receipt multiple times. I even confirmed with an Optum representative that everything was uploaded correctly and all the necessary information was provided.

  3. I'll just wait until the end of the year to get the tax benefit.

My company decided to switch to them in april. At first things were ok, but now with my FSA… it has become a headache with getting paid back. My last claim was denied, can’t determine the age of my child when what was submitted was the same thing I’ve been submitting.

I called yesterday they showed the claim still pending, called back today and they show no claim. When i said I called yesterday it it was pending he says oh yeah its pending. I am NOT re enrolling in this next year. I’ll just wait until the end of the year to get the tax benefit.

  5. Stay far away from this bank!

Stay far away from this bank! They have no idea how to make adjustments to an HSA account! They just know how to charge exorbitant fees for their “service”.

  6. No wonder the reviews are awful!

This is the worst FSA Card bank there ever was. It needs a negative number. How do you get a detailed receipt for co-pay? No wonder the reviews are awful!

  7. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!!!!

The only way to get your money is basically using their online page which NEVER works. I’ve had to file claims 3-4 times to get reimbursed for medical bills I’ve paid out of pocket.

They say the IRS requires certain criteria be met….blah blah blah. But it it’s a claim to say “Regional Medical Center”….clearly it’s medical lol.

Oh and then the customer service reps…one named Matt, they like to talk over you, not listen to what you’re saying and they just repeat themselves like robots. You can never get anywhere with them…they’re RUDE but use the snirky “sweet sounding” eat crap voice!

Hate hate hate my experience with them!!!!!!!!!!! They can’t add basic math either, must be scraping the bottom of the barrel with all of their employees.

Oh, and don’t go thinking when they say they’re going to escalate it and have a supervisor call you back either….hahahahahah, I’ve been told this three times already.

A PATHETIC JOKE of a company that holds your money hostage, will never use this again at my place of work or anywhere for that matter!

  8. Never Again

This bank makes my cable provider look good. I was locked out of my account and told I could only use Explorer. The system isn’t compatible with any Apple browsers. (The average hold time for customer service is 44 minutes. And then when you finally get connected to a representative, you wish you were still on hold.)

  9. BEWARE of THIS PLACE it is a SCAM!!!!!!!

This is the worst financial institution on the planet – They will take your money quickly enough but good luck trying to get any payments out of them I have been trying to get a legitimate payment out of them for 6 months – the problem has been escalated numerous times and every time I call – the check is pending –

which translates to never sent out – and they will not give any contact info out so that you can call back and talk to the same person and if you call and ask for a person by name they refuse to transfer you BEWARE of THIS PLACE it is a SCAM!!!!!!!

    1. Terrible company

You are so right! I am going through the same thing now! They will hold your money and you can’t find anyone to talk to other than the reps.

  10. Not worth the time or aggravation!!

Now I need to go several months back to find documentation or make another trip to my provider to get documentation. Mean while they are putting a “hold” only my account… this is MY MONEY! I’m told well “you could be getting plastic surgery”….. at the ER?

Everyone wants the government healthcare… this is being driven by government intervention. The IRS wants to know that you are not getting plastic surgery at the ER!?!?! Honestly, next year I’ll just pay the taxes and pay out of pocket. Not worth the time or aggravation!!

  11. Honest god I try.

Honest god I try. I have upload my receipts two times after receiving notices that they need a receipt. Call the customer service and she told me I need to upload additional documentation to support the receipt. Why didn’t they ask that in the first place. The website says explicitly to upload a receipt. It does not say to upload additional documentation.

  12. The worst!

The worst! If you are a business do not use them for your employers! The administration policys are horrible.

  13. They state they sent the check to pay the bill.

They state they sent the check to pay the bill. The hospital has not received the check. They say they mailed a paper copy of the cancelled check on. I have yet to receive it.

They tell me they can send me a Cisco secure email copy, which emails you a link you have to click on to go to ANOTHER website to get a copy. Now why would you do that when you KNOW it looks like Phishing?

Just list the damn thing in my account and let me find it. This is my third HSA account which I’ve had to deal with, so far I would go back to Chase.

  14. No way to reach them.

Site inaccessible since they changed over, the contact form gets completely filled out and then won’t submit, and there’s no phone number listed or in the materials they sent.

No way to reach them. I finally got a phone number and called and they have no clue what’s going on and refuse to believe there’s a problem.

  15. Nothing but fees for entire time I had an HSA when my job used them.

Nothing but fees for entire time I had an HSA when my job used them. “Give us $2000 and then you won’t lose money.” “We’re charging you $1 to mail a monthly paper statement.”

What other banks charge you for not using estatements? So much money lost. So glad when my company switched.
