Dr. Ellis Erin
Felt Like A Used Car SalesmanDiagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer, it was time to interview oncologists.
First person I interviewed was Dr. Ellis Erin. Now, I know how important it is to find the right oncologist.
After all, you’re trusting them with your life. Not to mention they will be performing heavy toxic procedures.
I went in with my list of 20 questions to ask your oncologist. I think right off the bat, she was offput.
She assumed I was just coming to her to get started. NO! She answered my questions very condescending and by the end of the appointment, she straight said that she felt like a used car salesman and she didn’t need to be selling herself to me.
I realized then it’s all standard protocol. Collaborative care with holistic treatments was assenine to her.
The issue was her statistical data I wanted to know:
Tell me about each of your protocols you’re recommending and how will it affect my quality of life while I am on it?
Why is it necessary to do chemo, surgery and radiation? Do some people just do so well on chemo, they don’t need the other two?
What are the long term side effects to chemo and hormone therapy?
How often do people have a recurrence?
Can I talk to people that have lived beyond 5 years and not have a recurrence? How about 10 years?
My questions were valid questions. She was completely closed off to anything different. That is not the type of person I would want to work with.
