Dr. Miguel Santiago-Melendez is the worst doctor

I would not recommend going to American Family Care – Montclair unless you legitimately have no other option. Dr. Miguel Santiago-Melendez is the worst doctor I’ve ever encountered. He has terrible bedside manner and is completely incompetent.

He tells EVERYONE that they have a mycoplasma infection (walking pneumonia).

The blood test he uses for it stays positive for two years after you’ve been exposed to that bacteria.

So naturally a lot of people will test positive for it.

For that reason, the blood test isn’t a legitimate way to diagnose mycoplasma; you’re supposed to do a chest x-ray.

Additionally, I had no signs or symptoms of walking pneumonia. So the diagnosis of walking pneumonia was ridiculous.

He completely misdiagnosed my condition, and I had to go to my normal PCP a few days later to fix it.

He is incredibly rude, patronizing, and wouldn’t listen to anything I said.

He said “oh look we have an expert here” when I tried to suggest something to him.

  1. Do not waste your time here.

    The doctors visit went very well, everyone was nice and helpful. However, I received a bill 8 1/2 months after my visit with no valid explanation. I spent over 2 hours, collectively, on hold over several different phone calls with billing trying to get in touch with someone when the wait was supposed to only be 2 minutes each time. When I finally got a customer representative to answer the phone, she was extraordinarily rude, and offered no help or explanation. Do not waste your time here.

    This place cares nothing for the patient. Was there last night and my fiance stayed in the car. Not many cars there but a long wait. Was about 15 degrees outside and he finally tried to come in they would not let him. Even after the Dr told them who he was. I was going to go ahead use their pharmacy but things went south real fast.

    My fiance got so mad at one the workers because of her lies and rudeness. By this time I am so angry and then the pharmacy refused my service. So now at home no scripts got to wait till another day to get from Walmart. Btw I have the flu. Thanks for nothing I would never go their again. If I acted how they did I would not have a job. I work for a great caring company of Drs.

    Terrible, terrible!! Please don’t waste your hard earned money AND time! We, as Americans, pay THEM (through healthcare plans, cash)!! They are there to provide ME care. I’m not there to wait 4 hours on THEM. I pay for healthcare and received MINIMAL care. DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION. I had to pay a babysitter so that I could go get this “care”. I deserve better!!! You deserve better!!!
