We worked with Justin Harris for just over a year. Initially I liked him, was very approachable and friendly, answered our financial questions. However, he of course had us switch all of our finances over to products he worked with, and I assume gained commission from. The first big surprise I received was the large fee charged to us for selling our stocks so we could invest in the SRI funds.
My previous broker had an all-inclusive fee and it would have been free to sell the stocks through him before transferring but Justin missed this important detail costing us quite a bit of extra money. It was the kind of detail I was hoping a financial advisor would help us catch to conserve our resources.
When we went in for our annual review, he had clearly not even looked at our file and asked us several questions about our financial status he should have known the answer to. I felt like I was not a valuable client at all and not worth his time preparing for the session.
We went over our finances including the $800 deducted quarterly for his fee, based on a percentage we agreed upon at the outset. I was concerned though that he had not done any work on our account all year and so asked him what the fee paid for.
Justin Harris became very vague, general, and a bit defensive. Soon after the meeting we sent a letter to end our relationship and I found it surprising that he did not ask for any input about our dissatisfaction. Good initial start but very poor finish.
