Roger Bramble visited our school one day and we welcomed him with open heart as he called himself the representor of the Queen.Who would not like to know people in power. So, we got into his scam.
Roger faked the royal invitation to perform in the London’s New Year Parade.
He visits many schools and scam students out of their money. We were not the only one. He is a serial scammer who follows the same strategy to loot innocent students out of their money.
He creates hope and his promises are skyrocketed. He makes you believe in whatever he says by his sharp and much rehearsed dialogues.
What makes him even more shrewd is that he has been continuing to fool schools from last one decade and till date has not been convicted.
Every year, he fools 20 schools out of 5 million dollars and students left with the dream of performing in front of the Queen.
He said that he was the Deputy Lord Mayor of Westminster and called himself as a messenger of Queen Elizabeth II. What else schools need, when they are getting to associate with big names? It does give school the advantage of branding themselves.
Roger makes sure, he wears the attitude and the attire that can easily invade the trust of others. When he came to our school, he was wearing perfect suit with cufflinks.
He entered the gate of the school in a huge car with England flag on it.
He asked the entire school to gather in the auditorium and then announced that the band was selected personally by the Queen herself. We got excited and put all our effort in saving the money that we could have.
He even told us the ways to earn money by working part time, babysitting, selling or recycling stuff. We really thought him to be a gentleman.
He told us that the tab for our school, Scottsdale’s Desert Mountain High, the tab was $300,000.
I was also the member of the band and was too excited to join the parade. However, my parents were not financially strong to help me with the amount.
So, I started over time and working different jobs. My parents also helped me with that.
Roger played his cards well. He made sure that the schools are made to pay their travel expenses and through the same travel agency that had the inflated prices.
He made sure that the schools are misled and thinks that they have been selected out of merit. I can give schools the benefit of doubt, that they are not well connected. However, it is a shame that media was also fooled.
There was a report in the Oklahoman newspaper reporting: “It’s not every day that the Queen of England invites your band to play in London on New Year’s Day.” That’s for sure. In fact, there is no way that Her Majesty had anything whatsoever to do with the “invitation” to the 200-member South Moore High band to make the trek to Europe in 2016.”
