Vamonos Moving

but save your stuff and DON'T go there.

The only reason this sorry excuse for a mover has 5 stars is because Nelson offers ‘incentives’ – discounts and such – for those reviews. Anyone who does that is immediately suspect, IMO.

I don’t have a lot in the way of possessions but I take very good care of the ones I have. Vamonos rushed through the move in two hours and scratched virtually all of my dressers, shelves, etc. (I had another company load my possessions onto my rental truck but I watched them wrap my furniture in sheets/cloths and they took 3.5 hours to do it.) The move was scheduled for two hours but I would rather have paid extra for more time and kept my furniture scratch-free. And, when I went to return the U-Haul the next day, I found my upright ashtray sitting in the front yard and a bent curtain rod and broken Tupperware giftwrap container lid still in the truck.

I called Vamonos because they had decent pricing and were the only movers headquartered in Montgomery County, where I was moving. Thought the proximity would be a bonus, since I wasn’t sure exactly when I was arriving. WRONG!

‘Vamonos’ means let’s go (much too quickly and screw up all of your furniture in the process), but save your stuff and DON’T go there.

  1. as I would have simply taped the doors/shelving myself.

I shopped around for moving companies in the Bethesda/Silver Spring area. It came down to 2 companies, “2 Men and a Truck” and “Vamonos moving.” I went with Vamonos Moving as they had a cheaper overall rate and a less complicated per-hour labor rate. The move went OK, but not perfect. They arrived on-time and moved everything (pre-packed boxes and some furniture) proficiently without any damage to the home.

However their hand trucks didn’t have straps and I saw one case where a box stacked at the top of the hand truck fell off when being moved. Luckily nothing fragile was in that box. They also didn’t secure any drawers or shelving for my furniture, so as they were loading my entertainment center onto the truck a door fell open and collapsed, shattering the door.

When I brought this up later in the day when we arrived at the destination, instead of an apology, the owner gave me a short lecture on the company’s no-liability policy. It would have been nice if they had pre-warned me, as I would have simply taped the doors/shelving myself.

  2. Just what we needed to get a college grad's stuff to her new apartment!

Vamonos Moving helped us out of a jam! On short notice we had to plan, from out of state, a move from a storage unit in Centerville to a West End apartment for my daughter who was arriving in town the night before the move. She had no easy way to get to the storage unit, so Nelson arranged for the movers to pick her up at a metro station.

Their pricing was easy to understand and they worked with us to keep the cost as low as possible. They scheduled the smallest truck necessary to do the job as well as a time that would minimize the possibility of getting stuck in a lot of traffic and therefore increasing the time portion of the move charges. Just what we needed to get a college grad’s stuff to her new apartment! 🙂

  3. I was so impressed I upped the original tip I was going to give them.

I ordered UBoxes from Uhaul and was planning to call movers using the local signs you see on the street ($55/hour) to fill it. Uhaul said if everything was ready to be moved (it was) they could also send labor to fill the Uboxes. They offered the highest rated and the cheapest, with a difference of about $100.

I’m very glad I went with the hightest rated – VAMONOS. It was easy to see why they are the highest rated. Nelson and Alex arrived on time and worked diligently. They packed everything cafefully, professionally and quickly. In a few months I’ll be unpacking the boxes in the other side of the country and sure wish they were there,

but I’ll be sure to ask Uhaul for their top rated movers again, in the hopes that they will be as good as Vamonos. I was so impressed I upped the original tip I was going to give them.
