Union Square Dermatology

Does not accept Med-Cal."

Union Square Dermatology was recommended to me by my primary care physician. I recently had a skin cancer removed by another dermatologist. But m visit with the sink cancer doctor was unpleasant because I was made to “less than” because I was unable to afford chemical peels, botox or other purely cosmetic procedures. I’m on Medicare/Medi-Cal and a fixed income due to disability. Besides not wanting some of those things, I cannot afford them. So I called to schedule a first visit but after making the appointment, I was told “Dr. Vail does not accept Med-Cal.”

I know these are tough times for doctors. These are tough times for a lot of us. I know “health care insurance” is an oxymoronic joke because the insurance industry makes money by DENYING health care.

But are all dermatologists greedy BOTOX®/Restylane®/Juvederm™ pushers? I do not like being peddled cosmetic procedures. I’m ashamed I cannot afford them if I did want them but is it too much to ask for dermatologist who’ll keep a watch on my skin cancer and my dermatological health?

  1. Union Square Dermatology Scam.

The office staff was disorganized and not super friendly. Dr. Anne Zhuang really rushed through the appointment, and a rushed 5 minute skin cancer screening + skin consultation was totally not worth the visit, or the $50 copay.

  2. If you do NOT have insurance and do NOT have a credit card, read this.

I sent a note via their web site asking about their rates (i do not have insurance) so i can make sure i have the cash on hand. A woman rang in less than 3 minutes after I sent the note. She told me the rates $105-$120 for a visit.

We made the appt and then at the end, she asked for a credit card to charge a fee (in case I dont show up) I said, I dont have a credit card. I dont even have insurance. She “deleted” the appt and hang up.

  3. Had two tiny moles removed by this office.

Had two tiny moles removed by this office. Both sites generated serious pain for five weeks (5 weeks!). Awful experience. I really regret going to this office. I’m left with two bright red, shiny scars that look like very bad burns.

  4. Too bad.

He made false diagnosis twice, and made false treatment. He was 100% sure that he was right. He ignored me when I told him that I had the HPV on my finger, until the results of my biopsy prooved it. Too bad.

  5. My Experience with Dr. Hall is good

My Experience with Dr. Hall is good. On time , details, short time to go over the issues. Typical doctor appoitment ( not putting a heart to the patinience )

  6. He makes it you feel as if having acne is not you're fault.

I like Dr. Reese. He’s very nice, friendly, great bedside manners, does everything with a smiling face. Winnie is great too-total sweetheart. I went in pretty nervous and winne totally calmed me down. Then Dr. Reese came in and made me feel really at ease. He makes it you feel as if having acne is not you’re fault. It is ACNE’s fault!

Took the time to listen and to answer all my questions and concerns. Never felt like he had to rush to another patient so that part was nice because you do not get a lot of doctors like that. I left the office feeling like a million bucks thinking that I finally can do something about my acne because thats how he makes you feel like before you leave.

  7. Highly recommended.

Quick and painless mole removal. Great advice and treatment for Rosacea that actually works! Pretty offices and courteous staff. Highly recommended.

  8. He is super friendly and will spend a lot of time with you

I have been seeing Dr. Reese for more than 5 years and think he is the best dermatologist in the Bay Area. I see him primarily for cosmetic reasons (i.e., botox and restylane) and he does a fantastic job and his prices are very competitive. My sister is a dermatologist as well (not in the Bay Area) and has come to appointments with me and thinks Dr. Reese is terrific.

He is a general dermatologist and many of my friends see him for non-cosmetic reasons and they love him too. He has a great office right off of Union Square and it usually is a short wait to get in. He is super friendly and will spend a lot of time with you – you never feel rushed.

  9. I just went to see Dr. Reese, because I've been breaking out lately.

I just went to see Dr. Reese, because I’ve been breaking out lately. They got me in really quickly and the doctor was incredible. He has great bedside manner and really knows his stuff.

He was also very kind and took time to talk to me and figure out my problem. He prescribed antibiotics and a face wash. My skin looks great now. I can now go on a date and not be afraid of a guy touching my face. 😉
