UAB Medicine Urgent Care

condescending and unprofessional

I will NEVER come back to this place again.  Not because it was over an hour wait to see someone (they had a doctor leave which is completely understandable).  When I did see a doctor they were so condescending and unprofessional, I actually got up and walked out of the exam room when the nurse came back in to get a blood sample.   I am the most patient person I know and I have Never even dreamed of walking out of a doctors office before.   I am sitting in my car outside this facility and now I am going to drive to another urgent care clinic and hopefully they will not treat me like an idiot (which, no matter who you are, you should never be made to feel like, by someone who you chose to assist you when you are ill).  Also, this is a review of the doctor only.  The staff were very friendly and very nice.  After stating I was not happy with the service here, I made sure to tell the phlebotomist I wasn’t walking out because of her, after she was sweet enough to apologize.

  1. Waited 10 minutes, was greeted with a very friendly staff.

Waited 10 minutes, was greeted with a very friendly staff. Saw the PA and she was very reassuring of my concerns and took time to really investigate my symptoms. Quick, thorough, way better than any urgent care I’ve been to in the area!

  2. Horrible experience! Do not go here!!

Horrible experience! Do not go here!! Let me start by saying all the staff members I encounter with the exception of the doctor I saw were so kind and willing to help.

The doctor I saw was Rita B. Goyal and she was horrible. She had horrible bed side manor, was completely condescending, and did not care one bit. I came in for a rash I had on my face hoping to get some medication and a dermatologist referral.

Dr. Goyal came into the room and was rude right off the bat. She treated me like a child and proceeded to rub in my face the fact that she thought I was not an adult. Then I asked her what she would do if I was she child and she LAUGHED AT ME. I have no idea how this woman got a medical license but she was horrible and I would under no circumstances ever go back to her.

  3. Highly recommend avoiding.

Extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism at this establishment. Was seen by a female PA (Physicians’ Assistant) who was knowledgeable and helpful. The nurses assisting me with treatment were courteous and caring (initially).

When I asked to consult with the Nurse Practitioner (highest ranking worker available, at the time) about medications/medication alternatives he refused to consult with me. I needed to discuss medication alternatives (the one prescribed causes extreme side effects for me). He is the supervising agent…”the most educated in the building”.

I waited for an hour to consult with him…to no avail. He told the nurse he would not speak with me. Truly unethical and dangerous (possibly illegal??) I will be reporting him to the licensing board about the incident. I am a licensed professional in the medical field myself and have never witnessed such a lack in competency and caring.

  4. I am an employee of UAB and have used urgent care twice before with good results.

I am an employee of UAB and have used urgent care twice before with good results. My PCP sent me in when I couldn’t be seen in his office. I was there for a back spasm. Now, I know that any hospital staff automatically thinks “drug seeker” when anyone comes in with any time of back issue, but mine are well documented with xrays, mri, etc.

I saw a PA who was so rude, condescending and rough with me that it was obvious that not only did she think I was a drug seeker, I was wasting her valuable time. Finally after several very rude comments: (regarding her testing of the weakness in my legs) “If this is the best you can do, you just need to go to the ER” …. (when I went over the different treatments that had been tried up to that point) “Well, we’re running out of things we can do for you.

Just what were you expecting when you came in here?” I’ll never set foot in that office again. It’s sad that one bad apple can ruin a barrel, because the staff, from reception to the MA that came to give me the cortisone shot that the PA finally agreed to order, was wonderful.

  5. THEY SUCK!

THEY SUCK! My husband died on 1-6-18 and I had a horrendously nightmare experience with the personal there. This was at the ER. They had me wait 2 HOURS after he passed before they allowed me to see him. His body was stone cold, his mouth was wide open, his body was drained of all fluids causing him to be the color of the white sheets,

they had to door standng wide open for ALL to see him and they had shaved his face!!!! They kept keeping me, “We’ll take you back to see him soon.” About every 15 minutes they said this. Over and over for 2 hours. WHY? WHY? WHY?
