The Modern Caravan
Took my money, walked away with an unfinished and broken projectI paid this company up front, $16,800, for two people to work for 90 days each on an Airstream travel trailer renovation. One of them worked around 6 days per week for two months, the other was barely ever seen after providing some initial design concepts within the first couple of weeks.
About 2/3rds into the time the project took, the one who didn’t work – Kate, the business owner – told me they would not be able to finish the project (despite having assured me the week before, without me prompting the conversation, that it would definitely get finished.)
They walked away shortly after with much of the project not completed (including important things like the propane was leaking, the trailer’s brakes never got hooked back up, the aluminum skin on the bottom of the trailer was just hanging down), stole a small amount of expensive walnut, and a plethora of little stuff that they simply didn’t feel like finishing, despite having already been paid to do so, and me having purchased supplies for these things to happen. Kate told me she would show me her timesheets when they decided they would not finish the project, but has yet to furnish these.
They told me that it was necessary to leave, because her daughter was going to be taken away by her ex-husband back in Indiana or something…and then proceeded to post pictures of them vacationing in the desert for two weeks after they left our project. They also filled all of the PEX plumbing with water before leaving, in freezing temperatures, and then left it that way for 2 days before telling me about it.
At that point, all of the plumbing and $1000 in fixtures were broken. I ended up spending days, the money to replace the fixtures and leaking pex, and $600 in help to get it all fixed before winter set in (we paid over $30,000 to renovate this Airstream, including their time and our costs, so that we could live in it while we are building our cabin on this property in Colorado.) Kate is a liar, it’s as simple as that, as well as a thief (the wood could be overlooked, the time she lied about and the money they took cannot.)
