The Corcoran Group – Park Slope

Always Too Busy

We didn’t choose to work with The Corcoran Group – Park Slope, but the owner of the apartment we wanted to rent had hired Corcoran to help her rent it.

We worked with Quinn Hagstrand, the broker, but never met him in person once in the entire process – he was always too busy, and everything was handled over email.

While he was trying to get us to sign the lease, he responded to emails instantly.

But once we signed the lease and dropped off our checks (including hefty brokers fee) at his office, he immediately became nonresponsive on email.

I guess once they have your money, you’re not important to them anymore – he was out spending his time trying to close other deals.

Meanwhile, we were still waiting on condo board approval, finding out when we could get the keys and move in, etc – and Quinn would take days to respond to emails or not respond until I followed up multiple times.

We paid thousands of dollars for a broker fee — I think responding to emails in a timely manner is a pretty reasonable expectation.

I love the apartment we ended up with, but I would definitely not work with Corcoran again.

  1. First I tried to get in touch with a known area agent, writing to his 2 office email addresses to no avail.

First I tried to get in touch with a known area agent, writing to his 2 office email addresses to no avail. Then I wrote to their info center about the said agent and till now, over a week later, I have had no response.

I’m not sure whether they treat me differently because I am writing from the EU or that said agent, Fred Specht, no longer cares about his job and the reputation of the firm. 0 for client care, not even one star.

  2. Nothing more than a chain of bad real-estate offices.

Too bad a half star or negative stars don’t exist. This is the worse of the worse. Brokers are morons. About the only thing they are good at is counting the commissions. They will do anything underhanded to get money. Lowest of the low. Avoid at all cost. Nothing more than a chain of bad real-estate offices.

  3. Help protect future consumers from fraud.

If you have a problem with any real estate agent you can easily make a formal complaint to the NY Dept of State. The DOS takes all complaints seriously and will investigate. Complaint forms are available fill it out and either snail mail it or email it. Help protect future consumers from fraud.

  4. Do not do business with Corcoran!

The brokers here are despicable. The other reviews are right on – they lie, cheat and con you into thinking that they are working to help you get the apartment you want when in fact its the opposite. I don’t know more sketchy people.

I made the mistake of renting through them and dealt with a few brokers to get my apartment. There is one guy named Wasim and he has to be the worst of them all. Unfortunately, a lot of the rental listings are under him and you have no choice but to deal with him.

He’s unprofessional, rude, supremely sketchy and you just get the feeling of being conned. Go somewhere else to get your apartment. Do not do business with Corcoran!

  5. Bad Service

Wassim and Flora are nice but they wildly exaggerate the size of apartments (1200 sf is really 750 sf as measured) and won’t tell you the truth about the buildings. Stay far away from 575 3rd St. Throughout the years, the building has been infested with bedbugs, mice, and cockroaches (calling them “waterbugs” doesn’t make them less gross).

The Superintendent’s wife is evil and she screams at children for using sidewalk chalk (on the sidewalk) and forbids stoop sales. She screens the tenants at the owner’s direction and tries to reject blacks, Hispanics, and Jews. There was a massive flood in the building due to negligence and tremendous property damage resulted.

The flood started in the owner’s son’s apartment on the top floor (he is a creepy priest who has approached children in the building and gives unsolicited blessings in the elevator). People have gotten trapped in the elevator and in the basement.

Recently, one of the most respected pediatric groups in NYC detected lead poisoning in children living here, and notified NYC Department of Health. In response, the management company / building owner / Superintendent schemed to silence, threaten, and evict the affected tenants.

  6. Working with Charlie Pigott was nothing like the other reviews written here.

Being limited by time, and caught just before the Labor Day weekend was the window Charlie had to work with to find us an apartment, and he did. We looked at all available listings in our price range in the next few days, and made a choice. He guided us to the perfect apartment and neighborhood . . . . and made phone calls to the landlord to intercede on our behalf.

  8. Lia Wiedemann at Corcoran really blew us away!

Lia Wiedemann at Corcoran really blew us away! We had dipped a toe in buying an apt in NYC without an agent (I could write a novel about what a bad idea that is) and we also met with some other agents that left us feeling a bit icky – like we needed to constantly be reading between the lines of what they said. Our experience with Lia was a complete 180 from all that.

She got to know us, and became an expert advisor on how our family and lifestyle could best be served by various apartments. When I became pregnant in the middle of the whole thing, Lia did a full pivot with us in what we were looking for without batting an eye.

She gave us guidance on how different amenities would improve our day-to-day, recommendations on how we could make the most of unique spaces, and functionality that we would want from our apartment as the baby got older.

  9. I'd highly recommend

It was a pleasure working with Lia Wiedemann at Corcoran. She is professional without being hard sell and very knowledgable about the market and the Park Slope neighborhood in particular. She was great on follow up and follow through and provided consistent feedback. I’d highly recommend Lia!

  10. We highly recommend Victoria Bongiovi and Corcoran Real Estate for being such a pleasure to work with.

We hired Victoria Bongiovi to sell our townhome in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn. I knew upon first meeting Victoria that she was the person for us. She was extremely knowledgeable of the local market, confident, genuinely nice, and she spent a good deal of the afternoon explaining the process and her expectations for the sale of our home of 31 years.

And she proved to be right on target as we went into contract within a month and sold our townhome at 10% above the asking price. Victoria was with us every step of the way during this period and answered every call and email no matter how small the matter. Her knowledge, hard work, and professionalism were especially appreciated when a serious illness prevented my husband and I from traveling back to NY to close out the house.

Victoria had our back all the way and went above and beyond to assure a successful outcome. We will always appreciate her kindness and assistance during this very difficult time. We highly recommend Victoria Bongiovi and Corcoran Real Estate for being such a pleasure to work with.
