Student Federal Credit Union

The Worst Organization

I echo that Student Federal Credit Union is the worst organization to ever deal with.

First, ALL the workers are teenage undergrad students. Their policy is that they only hire students, even their “CEO”.

Therefore, if you have any issues, you will not be able to reach an “adult” or someone in charge.

In established banks, you would have a customer service dept and a supervisor to resolve issues.

Additionally, since there is quick turnover with students they obviously do not have much experience, care or common sense.

They have funnel vision and cannot see the bigger picture Second, their business model is to charge “hidden” and “arbitrary” fees to students.

They tell you misleading information knowing that students might not have prior knowledge with local banks.

This will ruin students credit at a young age. The large commercial banks (PNC, Citi) know that customers are their business and make sure that a manager and customer service team will provide service and either not charge fees, or grant grace periods/reversals.

Third, I reiterate that they are completely unprofessional and unorganized.

They have lost track of payments/bills and will not try to resolve anything after.

Furthermore, some of them have discussed students personal/private finances to other students on campus.

If you complain, some have held grudges and acted hostile when they randomly see you on campus.

Go with a real bank! On campus, there is PNC. Nearby there is B of A and Citi.

At least you will know what you will be getting into, and that there is customer service and a higher authority for any issues.

  1. Do not bank here.

I have had an absolutely horrible time with SFCU. They penalize you without any warning and are totally unresponsive. Do not bank here.

  2. NEVER GET A RETURN CALL

I have been a member for close to two years ,and the service is terrible. I know the students do the best that they can, but this a University of Pennsylvania run institution, and if they allow theses mishaps to go on, what does that say about the University?

Being the only Ivy League school whose CU is totally run by students does not help when their mistakes cost me money. I then ask for a manager to call me, and NEVER GET A RETURN CALL. I joined this CU being an alumnae buying a house, I was told I needed to join a CU.

What really bothers me is that the “adults” in charge of this fiasco, will not do anything because somebody’s connected mommy or daddy will fuss because their baby’s feelings were hurt. As soon as I can, I getting the hell out of there before they cause a major financial fiasco with my money!!!

  3. The SFCU is literally the worst bank I've ever encountered.

I don’t have an issue with the fact that they’re teenagers. What really irks me is the fact that everyone is unprofessional and grumpy. Apparently “good customer service” isn’t a concept that these children are acquainted with.

For example, I recently was charged a large fee that I disagreed with. After making the long trek to one of the farthest ends of campus I was greeted with the sight of one of the workers working on his math homework.

As he scrambled to put away his work I calmly and clearly explained my situation to him. His responded with a very blase “I have to check with my boss and get back to you” and seemed to be irritated that I interrupted his study time with my concern. It has been three weeks and I still have not heard back from anyone regarding my fees.

Let me sum it up for you: child workers, bad customer service, lack of communication. I don’t know why anyone would bank here. I also don’t know how this bank was established and how it is still running.
