My friend and I went on a rainy cold day to Spa Vitale (my friend made the reservation). To our surprise, this was not really a spa – just three massage rooms off of a tiny tiny waiting room. There were no locker rooms, showers, sauna, hot tub, steam, lounge areas, etc. Granted there is an outdoor tub but on a freezing rainy day that wasn’t an option. We had gotten there early to enjoy what we imagined would be a typical spa, and our only option other than sitting on a bench in a tiny waiting room, with the receptionist right there in front of us, was to go wait in the hotel lobby, where there wasn’t even a bar open to get a drink or coffee.
We complained to the concierge that someone should have told us that it wasn’t really a true spa, and he responded very snippily and said they had been doing this for five years and no one had ever had a problem before. My friend had to go directly from the treatment to a dinner, so the fact that there weren’t even showers there made it a non-starter. (when I asked the receptionist what people do when they can’t shower after a massage she said they can provide us with hot towels…) We canceled the appointments, made last minute appointments at a REAL spa, and had a fantastic time! I guess if you are staying at the hotel and can go back to your room to shower it might be ok, but otherwise it seems a total rip-off. At least they should tell you when you book an appointment that they don’t have spa facilities.
