Schwartz Accounting & Tax Servi...
Mistakes From A ProfessionalHad been using Schwartz Accounting & Tax Services for a few years and decided to try a local business instead for our last year taxes.
Thought a face-to-face meeting might be a more streamlined approach instead of emailing data back and forth.
Saw the great reviews and decided to give Richard a try.
This was for a simple partnership with two pass-throughs to two business partners.
Richard was very nice and seemingly attentive. Sadly, niceness and competence are two totally different traits.
Despite reviewing our previous taxes and specifically notifying him how much we paid on estimated taxes the year before
He neglected to actually enter this information into his computer system. Caused one of the partners to lose out on over $1500.
Frighteningly, the only reason we know is because the IRS caught the mistake on the other partner and sent that partner a refund.
We are still in the process of getting the refund through the IRS over a year later through another tax person.
Also, one partner was having their health care premiums re-reimbursed through a non-profit due to an illness.
We asked if we needed to pay taxes on this and Richard stated yes since it’s income. Turns out, this is completely incorrect.
Luckily, the health care premium reimbursement check came just after last year tax year so didn’t end up losing money on this false information as well.
Additionally, our previous tax person nagged us repetitively to find anything more we can write off to save as much money as possible whereas Richard did not.
Anyway, I’m sure Richard is great and just made a couple mistakes and we were the unlucky ones based on others experiences.
Of course, we signed off on the taxes and missed the mistake too but I mean, it’s probably just easier and cheaper to do our taxes ourselves if we have to spend that much time looking for mistakes from a professional.
