Rivermark Community Credit Union

Customer Service

*** This is about opening an account online *** Rivermark Community Credit Union was offering 100$ to open an account so I wanted to take them up on it.

I prefer to open an account online for a myriad of reasons and they do offer that.

The big difference with Rivermark than I have seen with any other bank at this point is they require you to upload a picture of your ID.

This is a process I am not a fan of because, to me, it opens up another option for identity thieves.

Maybe not through their system but I have to take a picture and in this case email it to myself to upload it from my PC.

After doing all that and the rest of their lengthy steps, it says there’s a problem and I have to call a number.

I call and the woman tells me the system cannot verify my ID, social security number or some other part of the information I gave.

She said I will have to go into a branch to open an account.

What was the point of all that? I just uploaded and gave all my personal information only for nothing to happen??

I am going to guess it is my address. My home is brand new but built about a year ago.

My address comes up in Google and has been found when doing business with literally every other company.

Rivermark must use Mapquest or something because they are the only one who cannot find me.

Other banks I have signed up with online have found my address.

They don’t have as many branches as OnPoint so trying to make time to drive in to see them is much more of a hassle than even 100$ may be worth.

Be weary of a company that makes you give all your personal information only to force you to come in.

Already lost a lot of points with me before I ever became a member.

  1. She was thorough, responsive, and always professional.

I recently secured a car loan through Rivermark and I had a great experience. I was not a member at the time. I did the initial application online which was very convenient. I received a call within 48 hours from Jenny O’Connell and worked with her throughout the process.

She was thorough, responsive, and always professional. While I’m always wary about being “up sold” for other products, there was no hard sell, and I did secure a credit card with an amazing rate. I would happily recommend Rivermark to others.

  2. Their response was that I could change all of my account #s.

I have been banking with Rivermark for several years now and have had some fairly frustrating things happen with them, but I keep wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt because I want to support a local bank vs a larger corporate one.

They have “accidentally” taken money out of my account because the account # looked similar to someone else’s! Their response was that I could change all of my account #s.

I try to never actually go into the bank due to the extremely long wait, I appreciate that they do offer mobile deposits though as I have my own practice.

I have been charged a fee for not using bill pay frequently enough and was never informed that there were any fees. I despise hidden fees!

They CLOSED my bank account down once without notifying me, because it was hacked by someone overseas! I found out when all of my online bills BOUNCED because my card was inactive! Thank goodness my Landlord was understanding and that they reimbursed all the fees but what a nightmare!

  3. The friendly service comes at a price. It takes forever to get youre banking done.

The friendly service comes at a price. It takes forever to get youre banking done. I like a smile and a helpful representative, but please stop trying to make going to the bank the best event of my day.

The most important thing is get in and out. A deposit shouldnt take 20min. Question why are there so many branch employees sitting looking at the long line watching the two tellers?

  4. I maintain websites and this is just appalling. You need to get this sorted out fast.

Refinanced with Rivermark for a car loan. It was nice that they took it the loan and at a cheaper interest rate than Toyota Financial. I was happy with that. BUUUUUUUT then came the website. Worst banking website you have ever experienced.

It feels they are completely backward with their technology which makes me feel incredibly uneasy. Website hard to navigate, login info and previously selected options all forgotten – have to resort to writing it down and pulling out cards from my wallet every time, seems like you have to jump through all sorts of needless hoops just to make a payment!

Most current issue – they no longer have a custom loan payment section to allow for your own budgeting. Really? I maintain websites and this is just appalling. You need to get this sorted out fast.

  5. Probably the reason they have ATM refunds is that the ATM at the branch is literally never working.

Probably the reason they have ATM refunds is that the ATM at the branch is literally never working. I would say 1 out of three times I have been there the ATM actually works.

I asked very nicely to refund a fee I received because I couldn’t actually use their ATM and a woman named Sharon told me I would need to write a letter to potentially have it refunded 2 days before Christmas.

This bank is basically Bank of America even though they pretend to be different because they are a credit union. The only real difference is that Bank of America actually has working ATMs.

  6. It's worthless trying to get decent customer service here anymore.

It’s worthless trying to get decent customer service here anymore. You use to be able to call the bank and speak with someone who could answer questions.

Now nobody at this branch ever answers calls and if they ever actually return your phone call it is days after you leave a message. The help inside the branch when you get there has also fallen dramatically as well.

  7. there is no payment due! Update your systems!

My husband just recently paid off an auto loan that was set up through auto-bill pay. I was checking our bank account today and realized Rivermark took money out of our checking account for a loan that is paid off.

I contacted Rivermark and was told my husband has to go into the branch to stop the automatic bill pay or request the paperwork by mail. This is such an inconvenience to members. I have never heard of such a thing! If a loan has a zero balance, there is no payment due! Update your systems!

  8. Scammer

Being a rivermark “Member” is much like a new relationship that is doomed. It all starts out hearts and flowers and then after awhile, you are disregarded as a customer if you don’t do anything more than have a checking/savings account.

There policies on deposits are poorly written, and I was berated on the phone and told that I had bad money management skills because I overdrew after I made an ATM deposit, and the check was held without my knowledge. DO NOT sign up.

there are way better unions out there, this one snags you with its APR on checking and savings accounts and then just like any other corporate bank, they gouge you with overdraft fees. They also put a note on my account that they would not reverse any more fees do to the fact that reversed 3 in July when i was traveling and unaware of my account activity.

  9. The bank where I closed the account treated me much better than Rivermark CU.

I recently closed an account at a local bank and deposited the cashier’s check at the Clackamas branch. For what ever reason they placed a one week hold on the funds, even after calling the bank to confirm I had just closed the account.

(Cashier’s checks are guaranteed by a bank and usually treated as cash.) The teller went back & forth to a supervisor, and kept asking questions. The customer service was poor, and they basically treated me like a criminal trying commit a crime. The bank where I closed the account treated me much better than Rivermark CU.

  10. A quick and easy online complaint to Oregon DFCS at least seems to get their attention.

I had accounts with Rivermark 8 years ago. They could not process a simple change of address no matter how many times I went through the process. Kept my accounts open, but took my business elsewhere.

I think they have computer problems that result in all kinds off odd and annoying glitches, not really what I’m looking for in a financial institution. Regardless they are incompetent. Looks like lots of people agree. A quick and easy online complaint to Oregon DFCS at least seems to get their attention.

  11. Circle the wagons and deny everything.

I inherited a credit card loan I co-signed for my ex wife. I called Rivermark to let them know I would be taking over the payments and to please send statements directly to me. They said they would. They did not. They were able to send late notices with late fees and mentions of negative credit consequences.

This went on for a year with many patient complaints and many Rivermark promises. After finally filling a complaint to the DFCS Rivermark said they could not send me a statement unless I transferred the loan to my name only. I did. I specifically asked for statements to be mailed.

They were not. I own a small business and write hundreds of checks a month. Its easy to forget a payment without a statement, not to mention I like to see my statements. I complained to the DFCS again. Rivermark’s account manager, vice president and eventually president all contacted me with various excuses and reasons why my complaint was incorrect. Circle the wagons and deny everything.

  12. I can't wait to be done with these criminals

We switched to Rivermark because of the local-ness and the fees from US bank a few years ago. They are no different. When we talked to them at the Hawthorne location, on Thursday,

February 20th, their final response was to find another bank. Worst, laziest customer service I have ever had at a bank. Capital One 360 looks like a better option. I can’t wait to be done with these criminals
