Rhode Island Credit Union

This Is An Old Timey Bank

I cannot emphasize enough to those of you out there checking this review to NOT choose to bank with Rhode Island Credit Union.

This is an old timey bank with absolutely no desire to update to modern life.

I received a terrific rate through for a bank loan and went in to pay my first payment and give them the auto payment direct draft paper.

The teller was certainly very nice and, after checking my paper, said that the auto draft couldn’t be more than the monthly payment.

She consulted a manager who came over and confirmed that, yes, if I wanted to pay more every month I would have to do it through online banking.

HA! Online banking! Hilarious! First of all, the site DOESN’T ALLOW NEW USERS TO REGISTER! It just loops you back to the same terms and conditions every single time.

The tutorial that they provide for login help IS ONLY FOR ALREADY REGISTERED USERS.

It’s like a joke! I had to have my significant other come over to the computer to see what I was doing wrong and HE BUILDS COMPUTERS AND PROGRAMS THEM. It is bordering on a joke website.

To add insult to injury, after I left and looked at my payment coupon for my first month’s payment, they had applied the extra payment to interest and not principal.

My significant other had an auto loan through them and I knew previously that everything had to be done in person.

As they are right down the block, that wasn’t inconvenient for me.

But it doesn’t make sense for anyone else, especially when there are so many other options out there.

Good luck if you choose to do any type of business with RICU and double check everything!

  1. The customer service is terrible and the technology is ancient.

If it wasn’t such a pain to switch to a new bank I would have left Rhode Island Credit Union a long time ago. The customer service is terrible and the technology is ancient.

  2. Unfortunately it falls right in line with the rest of the RI image.

I am very dissatisfied with many aspects of RICU: rude tellers, long lines, poor hours, ATM in Providence closes down at 4 for servicing. I will be leaving bank very soon.

I used back as a child in the 50’s when RISECU. I am one who supports local business and chose RICU because of the name. Unfortunately it falls right in line with the rest of the RI image.

  3. I'd recommend sticking with a well known, they offer much more.

I have had nothing but terrible experiences with the rude staff and manager from the Providence branch. Their online banking is pretty much non existent. It only allows you to check your balance and reorder checks. I’d recommend sticking with a well known, they offer much more.

  4. Scammer

My husband applied for an auto loan for a used vehicle. We applied online and were not able to upload any docs through their website. He is a corrections officer and cannot get any personal calls for obvious reasons. He made a call on his break and was told Marilyn, his loan officer, was not available.

I called a few minutes later for Marilyn’s email (still unavailable) because he cannot make/receive phone calls. I was told THEY DO NOT HAVE EMAIL! THE ONLY WAY TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR EMPLOYEES IS IN PERSON OR BY PHONE DURING THEIR BUSINESS HOURS!
