Portland Housing Center

Waste of Time

Portland Housing Center is a waste of time.

They don’t offer anything more than a mortgage broker, actually less as the loan officer is unwilling to do anything to facilitate the loan.

The programs they promote on their website and classes don’t exist and the loan officer claims she doesn’t work for Portland Housing Center but some other entity she doesn’t identify.

This appears to be a way to get business for a brokerage and not a very good one at that.

My husband and I paid the fee and sat down with an adviser.

My husband and I paid the fee and sat down with an adviser. While he explained how to improve our credit, he also told us numerous things we needed to do before we applied for a home. It turns out talking to a lender was more informative and free.

    Scammer

They also sat down and taught us what we needed to know going into the process. Basically, I think it doesn’t hurt to just find a lender and talk to them directly instead of going through this program.

They referred me and my partner to an excellent realtor who showed us around 30 houses until we found our first home!

The Portland Housing Center helped me through the whole process of buying my first home and I am deeply grateful to all of the staff there. I learned about the process from budgeting my income, how to read my credit report to what different loans are and what kind of house I could afford. They referred me and my partner to an excellent realtor who showed us around 30 houses until we found our first home!

The Portland Housing Center helped me through the entire process, I definitely recommend going there, going to the classes and getting into the gov’t Saving Matched program, I got $3000 for saving $1000 toward my down payment! Yay Portland Housing Center!!

    No help, waste of $99

A friend suggested we come here when we were looking for a home. We were previously renting and we had lower paying jobs for awhile so we were excited to hear about the down payment match programs. Their site does not tell you what the requirements are for the match; I called and spoke with someone who stated she thought we’d qualify but we had to register and pay $99 to go through the program, so we did.

At our first meeting, we were told we made too much to qualify for the match. We were ridiculed for not having a larger savings. We were told to work on saving more money and that he’d follow up with us for a meeting to discuss our progress in a couple months. We were not given any info or resources. When he emailed a couple months later, I responded to set up a meeting, hoping to get something out of the $99 spent. When he didn’t respond, I sent a follow up which I also never received a response to.

I then received an email survey asking for feedback on the services I received, which was comical. The man we met with is no longer listed as a staff, so hopefully others are actually giving folks a benefit for spending money, and hopefully people are no longer being given misinformation on the phone.
