We had a new air conditioning system installed by Polar Bear. Within the first few days of operation, we discovered multiple installation errors that, if left uncorrected, would have caused long-term damage to our house. We had repeated return visits from technicians who did the least possible amount of work. One tech told us that he was seeing lots of similar problems caused by shoddy work by Polar Bear’s installation crew. Fast forward one year, and our system still wasn’t working properly, but now our warranty was expired. We called another a/c contractor, who pointed to a half-dozen major mistakes in the installation – including gaps in the “sealed” connections so big you could put fingers and hands through. Obviously, the installation job was completely incompetent. We’re paying $3,500 to have the entire system re-installed correctly, as Polar Bear won’t return our calls any more (and, even if they were willing to fix it — highly doubtly given their resistence to fixing even more minor problems – we don’t know that they would be able). I don’t know if they’re just incompetent, or also dishonest, but either way you should go with someone else.
