Novant Health Steele Creek Family P...

Absolutely Horrible Service

First off, let me start off by saying I’m a very laid-back easy going person. Novant Health Steele Creek Family Practice is probably the worst Novant location in Charlotte.

The doctors are great, but the staff ruins it. Firstly, if you’re calling to make an appointment, you will get an automated “Can you hold please” by the middle-aged black-woman sounding receptionist that they have hired.

I was calling for a number to the Novant SteelCroft location. Every single time, I am on hold for at least 20-30 minutes EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I guarantee you it. Regardless. She should be let go.

If I say, “no, mama can I just get a quick number to another location”, her response was “no, sir you can hold”.

Absolutely horrible service. It would take her 15 seconds and instead you will be on hold for 20-30 minutes.

You would have a better chance of reaching someone on the phone if you actually just drove there.

This location is small, they don’t have a huge reception area so why must you automatically place every single person on hold? You obviously don’t want people’s bussiness.

I used to go here because it’s 5 minutes down the road from me, but I would recommend everyone to drive an extra 8 minutes down the road to the SteelCroft Novant location where the staff is actually nice and wants your business.

Much better staff and they actually want your business.

  1. The front office staff now is much better and are always friendly and professional.

I have been going to SCFP since, since my first son was born. We always see Dr Bins-Gibson (Dr B.G.) I was a new mom and she made me feel like she truly cared about my baby. She has a warm smile and always listens and seems very knowledgable. I love her and so do my husband and kids. She knows our family and always remembers us.

I also love her nurse. We have seen Dr Mendelsohn before when Dr BG wasn’t available. He is so nice and just like the two previous reviews say, he really does make you feel comfortable and takes time to listen and is also easy on the eyes 🙂

There were definitely some staffing issues back when I first started bringing my kids there – very rude front office staff. Thank goodness they listened to their patients and got rid of them. The front office staff now is much better and are always friendly and professional.

Just like Tre said, this location is close to my house as well as my office. It’s never over crowded and the wait time is not too bad. They almost always can get you in for a same day appointment and are good about returning phone calls in a timely manner, which is very important to me.

  2. HORRIBLE SERVICE!

HORRIBLE SERVICE! Dr. Mendehlson is extremely rude and borderline narcissistic. He doesn’t care about the patients and is only after the insurance money. This guy is a total scam artist.

The whole office is a mess from the unprofessional office manager, to the receptionists, who are constantly new younger and younger girls. smh. this place should be shut down and does nothing but take your money, or your insurance provider’s money and they offer you absolutely nothing in return but wasted time and energy. RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Dr. B-G couldn't even be bothered to give me a reason for not refilling my med.

After my first visit I thought I’d found the perfect Dr. Dr. Binns-Gibson had a wonderful bedside manner and agreed to refer me to a specialist. She even agreed to provide me with meds until the appointment.

3 weeks went by with no news. When I called to request a refill and find out how the referral was going, I learned that her office had dropped the ball and had not even attempted to get me into the specialist.

They quickly got me an appointment for the end of the following week but Dr. B-G refused to provide me with a refill of the med I was taking, instead choosing a different medication.

After taking the medication I became very ill and went on line & looked it up. Turns out it is specifically contraindicated for 3 meds I am taking that she knew about.

I actually had to go to her office to speak to the nurse and in the course of our discussion I noticed they had another patient’s records mixed into my chart. Despite they were at fault, she still refused to prescribe me enough med until my appointment with specialist.

I feel like I honored my job as the patient and was treated with disrespect and a lack of caring. Dr. B-G couldn’t even be bothered to give me a reason for not refilling my med.

  4. Don't bother with this place.

Don’t bother with this place. They charge more than specialists & are inept & unethical. I had billing issues & they never responded. Go anywhere else.

  5. Never Again

When she asked me how I was doing, I was afraid to say something. Every other time I did come. From the minute Shay would call me to the back, it was never even a hello.. Its as if I was bothering them at their medical office doing medical work.

I felt uncomfortable and dreaded going. I even expressed this to Dr. Johnson because of the tension and rude behavior. She herself did apologize and say that they will do better but the attitude especially from the nurse only got worse. She even came in and said “Wow you took up almost 45 minutes with the doctor”..

All along Dr. Johnson would look at her watch or tell me we may have to table that for next visit. I am not looking for sympathy from them but because I am sick, I wanted to speak with my doctor who never had time, ever.

I assume because they double booked to get as many patients in as they could but I never felt welcomed, I never felt they cared and to be honest they should not be in the medical profession, especially working with patients.

  6. Its as if I was bothering them at their medical office doing medical work.

Steele Creek Family Practice is the Worst Medical Offices in Charlotte. Aside from the staff in the front reception, the others I personally dealt with were very rude on every visit, especially Shay the nurse of Dr. Nicole Johnson.

Dr. Johnson herself I felt she really was not invested in her patients (at least not me) she seemed as if my concerns were irrelevant and when I tried to go into detail with an issue I was told to keep it simple not be so descriptive because they were pressed for time. Mind you I was only seen for 15-30 minutes.

This brings me to my worst experience which was with Shay her nurse… I came for a physical and had been there prior for extreme headaches and the nurse told me verbatim “Don’t bring up anything from your previous visits or discuss any illnesses because this is just your physical otherwise we will have to reschedule you”.

So after being told to be quiet and sit there and let the doctor poke me.. When she asked me how I was doing, I was afraid to say something. Every other time I did come. From the minute Shay would call me to the back, it was never even a hello.. Its as if I was bothering them at their medical office doing medical work.

  7. I'm just going to forward the bills to his office, or take him to small claims.

I have great insurance coverage through Aetna and have had only problems with this office. Dr. Mendelsohn is great at writing prescriptions and being annoyed at you sitting on the chair instead of the bed. My referrals from this office have always been messed up and causes issues with my insurance.

The staff turnover is very high and a sign of a poorly run business. I call them a business, because they offer little in medical care. Spend 5 minutes, write a script, on to the next ‘patient’.

My most recent debacle has been a referral to a physical therapist for a pinched nerve. My insurance would only charge me $35 copay to a stand alone Physical Therapist. Mendelsohn referred me to a PT who billed through Novant Medical Center.

Novant charges $676 for the physical therapy. I did not know this. I went 4 times and now have $Hundreds of dollars in bills. Aetna says it’s not their fault. Novant says it’s not their fault and the good Dr has not called me back. I’m just going to forward the bills to his office, or take him to small claims.

  8. I will be finding a new location.

I love Dr. Pamela Binns-Gibson but the staff is less than acceptable. I called this am, because traffic was so bad, to see if I needed to reschedule. “Good morning, this is Tim, can you hold” I responded “sure” only to be put on hold and never have the call picked back up.

Therefore, I fought traffic, blatantly ran a red light, only to arrive 10 minutes late and be told I have to reschedule. I took off work so I will not be able to just reschedule since I will not be off again for a couple months. I was trying to save myself a trip by calling but that was all a waste of my time,

which is just as important as theirs and I am normally left in the waiting room for at least 30 minutes past my appt time but that is ok to them. I will be finding a new location.

  9. I believe the doctors are compromised by their staff.

By far this was my worst experience at any doctors office. Can somebody just do their job?!?!?! Although I never saw the doctor, the front desk has completely deterred me from ever having the desire. I was scheduled for blood work at 8:15am for my appointment with the doctor a few days later. When I arrived,

the inexperienced front desk workers told me I couldn’t have blood work without an order from the doctor. I told them the appointment was made by YOU and that’s what YOU told me to do.

Called another Novant office and scheduled my appointment doing blood work then my appt. with the doctor a few days later!!! What was so hard about that????? I believe the doctors are compromised by their staff.
