MedHelp

I had multiple bad experiences here

I have nothing good to say about MedHelp office. I had multiple bad experiences here.

I had a stomach bug once and they refused to let me see a doctor, take my vital signs, or let me talk to anyone other than the rude lady at the front desk.

I drove there, and my husband had to leave work and drive me to another urgent facility. My BP was 60/40 when I got there.

They treated me and thankfully I recovered that day. If I didn’t have anyone to drive me, I probably would have passed out in the parking lot at MedHelp.

At a prior visit, I overheard a secretary talking about me and complaining about me to a doctor outside my door.

I did have two nice doctors here who treated me well though. I love my new primary care doctor elsewhere.

  1. They just want to get your bill as high as possible.

I went to Medhelp for treatment of a UTI. Without my permission or knowledge, they gave me a pregnancy test. Not only is this unethical, but since I had just finished my period, ever if I was pregnant (no reason to believe I was), the test couldn’t possibly have shown a positive result. Be careful of this place. They just want to get your bill as high as possible.

  2. This person said that she was the manager when I asked to speak with a manager.

This is based solely on an employee that I had to deal with on the phone, and is in no way a reflection on the treatment I received. I had an insurance issue, and spoke with “Mia” in an effort to correct it and get my insurance to pay something that it should have taken care of, but this lady named Mia was completely unprofessional and unhelpful.

I don’t know how to say this, but her language was very “hood”, she was completely unprofessional, I actually thought it was a joke at first, but unfortunately it wasn’t; as a professional black woman I almost felt embarrassed for her. She was hostile, and acted like I was bothering her…I’m pretty sure its her freaking job to handle these situations.

At one point I heard her yell at someone and call them stupid; she wasn’t talking to me so I can only assume it was some poor soul who has to work for this person…how unprofessional! Yelling at employees while on the phone with a customer! You’ve got to be joking! This person said that she was the manager when I asked to speak with a manager.

  3. Would not recommend if you value a personal aid experience.

Insulted. This is my primary physician and i went in thirty minutes before close because i was bitten by a stray dog. The bite was minor as i was able to break it up quickly from it attacking my dog on a jog. I simply wanted to play it safe and get antibiotics and possibly a new tetanus shot if necessary.

I was turned away because their current staff refused any trauma case at that time in the evening. Being a senior college student with little financial help, I would suffer greatly skipping class and work the following morning or day.

I was apparently expected to go to the emergency room and pay for these fees if it came to that. Genuinely upset my case would not even be examined and referred if necessary. Would not recommend if you value a personal aid experience.

  4. This facility Seems like it is Poorly managed and does not respect patient's time .

Nice facility but it took almost two hours to get a simple sports physical. Waiting room was not busy and we were told on arrival we would get it soon so we elected to use this office (instead of American family care)- not the case. This facility Seems like it is Poorly managed and does not respect patient’s time .

  5. The doctors are not careful or thorough and the office manager does not care about you as a patient.

When you get there they have you fill out lots of paperwork – no problems – but then the doctor does not even look at the paperwork. I had a severe adverse reaction to a medicine and noted this on my paperwork. What does the doctor prescribe – the same drug.

When I complained to the office manager, he took the doctor’s side, would not let me talk, shouted at me and then escorted me out of the clinic. Do not go here. The doctors are not careful or thorough and the office manager does not care about you as a patient.

  6. 2 months ago I went to medhelp on my lunch break.

2 months ago I went to medhelp on my lunch break. I was in and out in no time, which was great (I thought). My symptoms included severe cough, decrease in energy and fever. I was tested for flu and strep, both came back negative.

The diagnosis I was given was bronchitis and was given the corresponding medication. I was told if I didn’t feel better to come back. I was back 2 days later, even worse. They listened to my chest, gave me some steroids and sent me on my way.

I have not improved 2 months later. Went to a different doctor yesterday who performed several tests, and turns out I have had pneumonia for 2 months! I am very disappointed in the care I received at Medhelp and I will never be back. The staff is friendly but I do not feel they gave me the proper treatment.

  7. I'm thankful I was able to find out I had definitely broken my wrist the day of the accident.

I’m thankful I was able to find out I had definitely broken my wrist the day of the accident. However, the staff who placed a splint on my arm had no experience and told us so.

He placed the fiberglass side of the splint against my skin and the nice cotton padded side on the outside. I called the next day to say I was getting it fixed. The receptionist told me that it’s obvious to her the comfortable side should be against the skin.

When I arrived, the two nurses, one who admitted to having no experience with a splint, were trying to make the exact same mistake. After repeatedly questioning their reasoning, the nurse claiming to have experience finally said the splint would not form correctly if placed with the cotton side on the skin.

  8. He better not actually bill for an examination because there wasn't one.

We just had the worst experience with Medhelp on HWY 280. I took my step daughter because she had a stomach virus and had been sick all night. She couldn’t keep anything down and was having severe stomach cramps. We decided to take her to urgent care for some anti nausea medicine and maybe a bolus of fluids. We were told by the MD that she could benefit from fluids but that they didn’t do that there and she may need to go to the ER. I said “Isn’t this an urgent care?”

And he said that it was more family practice but that they do walkins for “urgencies”. Obviously, dehydration and a bolus of fluids is minimum of what an urgent care should do. When the nurse came in, I asked her why they didn’t do IV fluids anymore and she said “We do.” I had her bring back the doctor in which he proceeded to tell me that Medhelp does but he doesn’t.

  9. They will overcharge you for crappy services.

I visited the MedHelp in Trussville, and let me just say, if I could give no stars, I would. After going back and forth for MONTHS, I’m still being told I owe even more money. After speaking to someone (who works there) on the phone last month, she told me that they always charge the highest amount possible to insurance companies. The amount of care given from these people is laughable. Do not use them. They will overcharge you for crappy services.

    1. Billing Fraud

I agree with you. I waited in the parking lot for 6hrs for a covid test. Never saw a doctor, no vitals were taken. I was inside their building for all of 30 seconds, only spoke to receptionist and now I have a bill for $330. Half of the bill was for a office visit that never happened!
