I slipped on my side and caught my fall on my arm. Though my arm and leg hurt, I was more concerned about the cut above my eyebrow, which was the result of shard of tile lying around – I thought I may have needed stitches.
I called the MedExpress Urgent Care on Chenal Parkway ahead to confirm that there was a doctor on staff, and drove over to get examined and treated.
I would like to make it clear that during the accident there was no blow to my head.I knew that I did not require a trip to the ER or a CT scan of any kind.
I came to this clinic for what should have been a quick, simple treatment, and ended up with a whole lot of wasted time and no treatment whatsoever.
Though the clinic was clean, the waiting room was comfortable, and the administrative staff were nice, THE DOCTOR, (Barbara Perry) WAS A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE.
I have never in my life come across a doctor with such horrible bedside manners. She was rude, she was abrupt, she was accusatory and she was offensive.
Even after I explained to her how the accident happened, reiterating over and over that there was no blow to my head, she still accused me of lying and refused to even examine me.
First of all, who would lie about something so serious? A head injury is not something to take lightly.
But a minor cut which I believed may have required a couple of stitches is not grounds for the ER, which is where she told me to go.
After being spewed out of the doctor’s office, I begrudgingly drove myself to the ER where I met with more than one doctor who both laughed off the cut above my head.
Turns out that I did not need stitches at all. But the real issue was with my arm.
I had fractured it. This injury was completely overlooked by the doctor at the clinic because she refused to even examine my arm.
I want to be clear that it wasn’t just Dr Perry’s refusal to examine me that made the experience so terrible – maybe it’s her personal protocol, or maybe she doesn’t feel comfortable doing in-office stitches.
It was her inappropriate behavior and awful bedside manner that really threw me off. This person should not be in the business of helping people.
And to make the experience worse, when I walked out of the office requesting a number for their corporate branch so I could make sure that I was not charged for a visit where I was refused even a basic examination, they made me wait 30 minutes for the number.
The administrative staff kept quietly apologizing for the doctor’s inappropriate conduct.
It was clear to me based on the administrative staff’s reaction that this doctor has a bad history/reputation.
UPDATE: after being told by the admin that I would not be charged for the visit as I did not receive any treatment and was referred to the emergency room (which cost me a lot more)
They have billed my insurance $210 and I received a letter from a credit agency demanding payment of an additional $50 or my credit will be impacted.
I am in the process of disputing this, but the head ache of it all is far worse than any injury I had.
I understand this is a business, however, I recommend going elsewhere if you are ever in the unfortunate position of needing urgent care.
