Magnolia Plumbing Heating & Coo...

Following the above chain of disappointments from Magnolia

Use only as a last resort. They are expensive and will use every trick they can to drain more cash out of you. My experience is outlined in my letter to Magnolia below to which no response was received.

November 10th I contacted your company regarding a whining sound coming from my boiler. Your initial evaluation, which is attached, outlined the replacement of $2,978.22 in parts to repair the boiler. The circulator pump was changed out on November 22nd as it was determined to be the cause of the whining. Cost was $958.53. Your invoice is attached. Other parts were to be installed at a later date to be determined. The next day the system failed. I had no heat on the 23rd. On the 24th your technician arrived and determined the problem was an ignition module. This part was not identified in your initial evaluation on the 10th. I was charged another diagnostic fee of $109 and $600.63 for the part. On December 8th the boiler failed again. On December 9th another technician arrived from Magnolia, was unable to resolve the problem due to lack of parts, and charged a diagnostic fee of $109. Your technician recommended replacing gas valve and ignition assembly.

Following the above chain of disappointments from Magnolia, on December 10, Spartan and Allied Service evaluated the boiler. Both companies informed me the boiler was beyond repair. Furthermore, they told me that I was fortunate the safety system on the old boiler was tripped to prevent further operation. The boiler was clogged to the point of burning up if it continued to operate. I replaced the boiler on December 11th.

The repair events surrounding the boiler caused me to feel that I was overcharged for repairs that would only lead to a known complete replacement of the system in the near term on your part. Magnolia charged me with $1,886.16 of diagnostics and repairs when a new boiler was what was required. Your last technical diagnostic evaluation supports this. Aside from the money, the lack of concern over the safety of my house and family is alarming.

  1. Magnolia is this firm.

Magnolia works hard to provide friendly and fast customer service. I had some technical problems with my new HVAC system, and Magnolia worked tirelessly to resolve it. Everyone I’ve encountered has been friendly and genuinely interested in providing great service, and the one who sets the bar in this regard is Justin Johnson, who is unfailingly friendly, concerned about the problem, and responsive. HVAC systems are complicated and expensive, so you want to have a strong service provider: Magnolia is this firm.

  2. I would definitely recommend them to anybody in the Northern Virginia area.

I had Magnolia install two ductless HVAC units to our house. They were top notch from start to finish. The sales man Justin was super friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The technicians were very nice and respectful in our house.

The price was awesome. They beat out three other companies on their bid. I can not say enough about how well Magnolia’s family/team treated us. I would definitely recommend them to anybody in the Northern Virginia area.

  3. We had a very good experience with Magnolia, 90% of which is due to Kenny H.

We had a very good experience with Magnolia, 90% of which is due to Kenny H. He did the initial consultation as well as the installation of the heating unit. Mr. Kenny contacted us several times to answer questions regarding tankless vs traditional heating unit as well as pros and cons of each.

His professionalism and attention to detail toward his craft was very appreciated and would cause us to use Magnolia again, only if the send Kenny H.

  4. Appears that Magnolia has gotten to big for their boots.

I called to ask about getting inspections on a home under contract. Wanted to know what type of inspections should be done on a 1900 home in DC. Kiesha (do not know how to spell her name) told me they would come out and then recommend what should be done.

I told her I wanted to speak with her supervisor (she is the supervisor), her manger, (she is the manager), then asked for a plumber or an HVAC person to speak to directly. She told me they do not work that way.

Road blocks at every turn. She told me that this is how Magnolia works. She would not have anyone call me or help me other than herself, and she told me she was not a technician. Appears that Magnolia has gotten to big for their boots.

  5. no, they DON'T actually do that.

This business states on their website that they do radiant heating, tied into boiler systems. I called, made it very clear what I wanted, was told yes, they could do that, and set up a date and time to get an estimate. I took the morning off work. They arrived (very promptly) only to tell me that, no, they DON’T actually do that. A for courtesy, F for everything else.
