I made an appointment for a check up and they sent me the customary reminder E-Mail a few days ahead of time, which I appreciated. However, on the day of the appointment (yesterday),
I forgot to take my phone to work with me and didn’t get home until 7pm. During the day, I had three missed called, a voicemail and two text messages from the offices. Even that is somewhat understandable,
I understand their time is valuable and they need to make sure they can see as many patients as possible. What made me angry, though, was that the doctor called my emergency contact to see if I would be at my appointment.
I didn’t give them this information to confirm an appointment, I gave it to them in case I died in his chair. My emergency contact is a new, single mother of a three month old who lives five hours away.
She was in a panic until I got home and got to my phone to let her know that I was fine. I’m pretty sure that this would be a HIPAA violation, as well.
