When I called High Security Locksmith, they told me they have a $35 service fee and the unlocking charge depends on the lock. I asked, “so what’s the range for everything?” and they said, “between $55 and $120.” I said OK. BIG MISTAKE. They came out promptly (appreciated), were able to unlock the door in about 10 seconds without damaging it (also appreciated), but in between those two things charged me $155.00 because “the service fee is not included in the price I quoted you.” What??? We protested and this guy said, “Oh, if you want me to leave, pay me $35 and I will.”
Basically this guy comes out and then completely screws you so you have to pick between (1) him charging you more than he quotes, or (2) paying him just to leave, which he knows you won’t do. If there’s a problem, I guarantee you it will be “your misunderstanding,” not his. Never mind the fact that they are in the locksmith business, so just may be in a better position to prevent locksmith price “misunderstandings” than customers.
I may seem frustrated at this experience. It’s because we had another locksmith scheduled to come out who said he would charge $120 for everything, and after I spoke with High Security Locksmith I actually called that other company and canceled them. But of course High Security Locksmith had the lowest quote — they didn’t honor it (as they made very clear, ‘I misunderstood them’). I guess I misunderstood that they charge $35 more than their competitors for the exact same job, or that I would have to pay them just to leave if I didn’t want to be up-sold. I made a mistake picking this company.
