Fort Myer does more big-scale, commercial projects than they do residential. However, they were contracted out by DCWASA’s insurance to fix our front garden/patio area after a sewer line replacement.
Fort Myer Construction did a lot that was GREAT, but was also mediocre or hit below the bar in other aspects. Mr. DeSousa (forget his first name) was in charge of our project. Highly professional, easy to get in touch with, very friendly and responsive. It was a pleasure dealing with him.
The construction crew upgraded our patio area to flagstone and it looked really great. Excellent craftsmanship for the most part except one corner that was not level, and collected water in a pool after every rainfall. Fort Myer guys came out to fix it and re-lay the stones. However, in the process of doing so, the stones to be moved and relaid were badly chipped around the perimeter. It isn’t a major eyesore, but it is noticeable.
The group that landscaped our garden bed, however, fell short of expectations and limits this to a 3-star job. We had excellent soil in our garden bed (prior to the sewer line project) and the landscapers used very, very poor quality to replace the box (street dirt, my husband called it). Also, our garden bed is pretty much completely a full-shade area and the replanting done included full-sun plants (Russian sage and day lilies). We still gave them a fighting chance, but alas, they never grew much and we had to dig everything up and replace it all ourselves with shade-friendly plants.
All in all, the work wasn’t perfect, but we really like the work and professionalism that Fort Meyer did.
