Enzo Custom

this is not the place for you.

I doubt I would use these guys again. I found the experience really underwhelming and have not been very happy with the final product.

Full disclosure: I’m a big guy and not easy to fit off the rack. I’ve only ever owned custom made suits, but this was my first time going to a place that was more like a stylist and less like a proper tailor. If you’re an easy to fit size, you may have a better experience here.

The initial consultation was fine. The place is conveniently located and the staff were fairly friendly. I worked with Bergen who was helpful in guiding me through the process.

After that initial appointment, the experience went downhill. When I went to pick up my suit, it just didn’t feel right to me, particularly the jacket. Bergen tried to convince me it was fine and went as far as saying it fit me better than my current suit (which was patently not true). When I disagreed and told him that it just didn’t feel comfortable and didn’t look quite right on me, he through up his hands and said “well, i’m at the limit of what I can do, tailoring wise” (??). When he called out his actual tailor to take a look at what adjustments could be made, she immediately identified that it was too tight and needed to be let out a bit. In the end, this is what they did and now, 2 months later, I can say that i’m still not too happy with suit. The jacked is still a little bit too snug and the pants have so much extra room that the fabric bunches whenever I sit down.

All in all, I think the experience that Enzo offers suffers from two things: 1. Trying (too hard) to project a cool, hipster vibe. Frankly, I don’t care if you offer me single malt scotch at my appointments. Just make a great suit! and 2. Being operated by guys who are more stylists than tailors. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters with a custom suit are the cloth and and the tailoring. The guys at Enzo were great with steering me through the process of picking a cloth, but don’t seem to have any first-hand experience with tailoring. Moreover, the fact that all the stitching is outsources (presumably overseas) means that you don’t get to have that intermediate fitting to get things just perfect. After your measurements are taken, the next time you see the suit it is fully constructed.

A traditional, “old-timey” tailor will do at least one intermediate fitting and, even when I’ve travelled to Asia and had suits made there, the local guys will do the same.

Bottom line – if you’re easy to fit off the rack, go ahead and splurge here on a nice custom suit. BUT, if you get custom suits because you are hard to fit off the rack, this is not the place for you.
