I see multiple issues here

I have been visiting Dr. Thomas McKenny’s for around an year. My low rating information is mainly due to deceiving information provided by staff. My dental hygienist has been very good and have no complaints against her. Before getting any treatment I confirm multiple times with people at front desk and care provider if my treatment is covered.

So I was very surprised when I received a bill of 100 dollars. I could not recall any treatment being not covered as before every sitting I confirm that treatment they are providing will be covered or not.

I called their office to explain what the changes were. The person who took my call told me that it was for a dental filling I had and insurance covers only 80%. That seemed suspicious as my insurance covers fillings at 90% of cost. Due to this I asked her to look more closely as this does not seem right.

Then she switched to a different reason. That my insurance period is from March to March. I am allowed 2 cleanings per that period. However typical insurance period is Jan to Jan. Due to the variation in period, one is dental cleanings I had is not covered.

I thought OK possibly this happened. I explained her that before each treatment I confirmed with both the front desk and my hygienist is the treatment is covered and they had confirmed that it is covered. Because it’s their mistake and they provided wrong information I should not be responsible. I requested to speak to Dr. Thomas McKenny but was denied. I asked to follow up this with Dr. Thomas McKenny.

Later in evening I get a voice mail from her. This time she shifted to a different reason now. It had nothing to do with policy period but they had performed a treatment which my insurance did not cover and they had confirmed me that insurance covers that.

I see multiple issues here. First of all they provide deceiving information to patients regarding coverage and later put all responsibility to patient. Secondly when I enquiried them to explain the charges they changed their reason thrice. This shows that staff hired by them is not competent and makes stories on the fly. I would be switching to a different dentist
