Dr. Shawn Hassler

He Is "So Busy"

Dr. Shawn Hassler appears to be a good doctor, especially if you are HIV postive or have AIDS, however I don’t think I have actually met him because he is “so busy”.

I have been going to his office over 10 years but have very few medical problems (I am not in the HIV category) and generally saw the former physician’s assistant who has left.

I went in yesterday with pretty bad pain in my abdomen and saw the new PA and was not impressed.

He had me go to CPMC for an ultrasound but when I got there the order was for an X-ray.

I called the office and they confirmed it should not be an x-ray but a ultrasound.

They were to send over a new order but CPMC claimed they didn’t get one and ended up doing both.

I left and called the doctor’s office to find out if they could help with the pain now and they said they would get back to me, which they didn’t that day or the next.

I called the next day to find out if the test revealed anything and was again told the “doctor” would get back to me, which still hasn’t happened.

It appears they are over worked and low on the skill of actually caring about patients but like to make referrals for tests.

I plan to change doctors as soon as possible.

I'll review this PCP according to my experience in scheduling a first-time meeting with him

I switched to this PCP recently based on his clinic’s proximity to my apt and the reviews I’ve read here. I called in last week to schedule a first-time meeting with him. I also need to consult him with something that came up in my physical exam required for work.

To my dismay, I won’t be able to see him until November (that’s more than two months after I called in!). His secretary told me that that’s the earliest Dr. Hassler will be able to see his first-time patients.

Now, if a PCP would need more than two months to see his new patient for the first time, that means either he has more than the number of patients he can possibly attend to OR he doesn’t really care about his new patients at all. He should just stop accepting new patients or rethink what his responsinbilities are to his new patients.

In my opinion, PCP’s should set aside some time slots to see new patients. If he cannot make time for new patients at least within a month after he accepted them, then that should be telling him that he should stop accepting new patients.

In fairness, I’ll review this PCP after my first-time meeting with him. Too bad I can’t switch PCP’s anymore. Hopefully, he’s really worth the two-month wait.

I'm not happy with my treatment over the past year.

I’ve been going here for a year now. I’ve never met Dr. Hassler. I see Aaron McCloud, a PA who basically just gives out referrals to everything (why did I take off work to come in??). He’s not particularly warm nor does he ask any good questions. I did once see Greg Sauers – and I really liked him. He was warm, friendly and asked lots of questions. He was a bit rushed, but we did get to cover everything I wanted to.

Biggest Gripe: They do not answer the phone, nor do they return messages left on the phone. This is extremely annoying. I was in bad pain, and needed a pain medication prescription refilled.

I left all the information on the voice mail three days ago, and they didn’t call in the prescription, nor did I get a call back. Hello? I’m in pain and can barely work, but they don’t seem to care, or can’t be bothered.

The support staff is great, they get a star, and so does Greg, but otherwise, I’m not happy with my treatment over the past year.

    AVOID at all cost.

Absolutely the WORST office ever. AVOID at all cost. The call receiver or the receptionist is the RUDEST receptionist I’ve ever talked to.
