Dr. Rona Silkiss

INSURANCE FRAUD! STAY AWAY!

INSURANCE FRAUD! STAY AWAY! In January I was referred to Dr. Rona Silkiss after an accident which left a minor bump under my eyelid.

Upon arrival to the office I checked in and was told I would have to pay $225 as a minimum.

The amount would include my $35 co-pay and the remainder would be towards my deductible.

The $225 amount enable me to meet my deductible for the year so I agreed to pay the amount as it made sense.

Why wouldn’t I trust them. The start of the appointment was a normal eye checkup and then they diagnosed my eyelid and gave me my options.

Dr. Silkiss recommended eye drops but said they could also go-in and remove the bump.

I asked them to remove it, but they said it would require another visit. At $225 a visit, I opted for the drops.

I left with with drops and used them over the next two weeks and nothing happened – bump still there and not even smaller.

I went to another doctor a few weeks later who wasn’t even a specialist and they took care of it without any trouble.

Fast forward to now. I recently had to get additional healthcare services for something different and received a bill for the remainder of my deductible.

I was surprised to hear this since I thought I had met my deductible with Dr. Silkiss so I called my insurance provider.

I shared the information with my insurance provider and they confirmed that they had already reimbursed Dr. Silkiss for the amount in February and they should have refunded me, minus the $35 co-pay.

The representative from my insurance provider, who was very surprised, put me on hold and called Dr. Silkiss immediately to figure out what was going on.

Sure enough, they “forgot” to send me the $190 they owed me for the visit; a visit that resulted in a bottle of eyedrops and me going to another doctor to get proper help.

Luckily my representative from Blue Cross was awesome and was proactive enough to call them out and take care of the situation.

Looking back, it’s also no surprise they wanted me to come back for another appointment if I wanted additional services.

This could have resulted in additional patient robbery. Customer service in a nutshell was also sub-par.

I don’t want the 1-start to be based on just the payment challenges, the overall experience was not good. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place.

  1. She has answered my concerns immediately.

On May 1st, Dr. Rona Silkiss operated on my right eyelid to remove a large melanoma lesion. I am so grateful to her because she skillfully removed it and arranged the remaining eyelid to look like a normal eyelid. This surgery took place within days of my first appointment because of the urgency.

Dr. Silkiss is a highly skilled and respected ocular physician. Her staff has been friendly, respectful and helpful at all times. On follow-up appointments, I have found Dr. Silkiss to be compassionate, attentive, and knowledgeable.

My husband and I have appreciated her down to earth personality and sense of humor. We admire her tenacity to practice her skill is so many places and she is so composed when we meet with her.

I have found it easy to communicate with her via her portal. She has answered my concerns immediately.

  2. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Silkiss and her team!

I highly recommend Dr. Silkiss. She recently performed Ptosis surgery on both of my eyes. The results were even better than expected and the procedure was painless, with a fast and easy recovery.

Dr. Silkiss patiently answered all of my questions (I was very nervous) and checked in before and after the surgery. Her office staff and anesthesiologist were also efficient, knowledgeable and easy to work with. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Silkiss and her team!

  3. I am very disappointed in her.

I have weak lower eyelids which cause severe eye irritation. Some 8 years ago she did a palate grafting procedure to the lower lids which helped greatly. Over the years they have again become lax and I had a consultation with Dr. Silkiss.

She was most unhelpful and did not offer any real options except possible canthoplasty which she said might not work and her staff would call me to schedule surgery. They never did. She advised me to continue taping my lower lids up and keep using drops all day long. She never suggested a “cheek lift”.

On my own I sought out other options and had a cheek lift done which has solved the problem completely. She should have been aware that this was a viable option. I am very disappointed in her.

  4. which I never had before.

I held this review until my anger subsided a little as I was afraid I would say something I would regret later on. But now is the time.

My first experience for my consultation was a red flag that, unfortunately, I ignored. Dr. Silkiss did not introduce herself, shake my hand, address me by name, etc. She just began talking about my surgery. She was so impersonal and cold.

I had upper and lower eye surgery on 8-23-16. One week after my surgery a blood vessel burst in my left eye at 1:00am. It swelled completely shut and was black and blue in a matter of minutes.

I was horrified. I paged her and she said to send her a picture. She told me to keep ice on it and see her in a week. A week?? I went for that appointment and her first words were “What happened to you?” REALLY?! She didn’t even remember my issue.

She gave me steroids for the swelling. After two weeks my eyes were still not healing properly so she gave me Obagi for the darkness, which I never had before.

  5. I came to "Doctor" Silkiss for a medical need, not an optional cosmetic preference.

I came to “Doctor” Silkiss for a medical need, not an optional cosmetic preference. The entire ordeal was absolutely, stunningly horrific, start to finish. Here’s how it all unfolded, roughly along the timeline I had to endure as her “patient”:

    1. Initial appointment – she was 45 minutes late, didn’t apologize or offer an explanation. This was my alleged “pre-surgery consultation” for an operation that was supposed to occur in the coming 2 weeks.

She spent, literally, 10 minutes with me giving me an eye test like you get for glasses or contacts, then gave me a thick packet of papers and told me her staff would “deal with me” about the surgery – I walked out confused and a bit hurt that they had to “deal with me” as if I was interrupting their day.

  6. i believe she's prejudice. she IMMEDIATELY shunned me.

i believe she’s prejudice. she IMMEDIATELY shunned me. she came in the appointment late. She didn’t ask me anything. i had to initiate the conversation. wow!! I was only with her no more than 5 minutes! she took a tool, measured my eye frame..so very hard, i screamed!

I’ve had this done a few times before, never so hard. My eye has been irritated and sore every since. Either she doesn’t like african women and/or she’s anti-medicare. I seriously regret going to see her. Doctor’s like her (there’s many) makes my stomach turn! I should’ve known better by all her bad reviews I read prior; tried giving her the benefit of doubt. smh.
