Dr. Larry Fan

Everything Was Going Wrong

I cannot recommend Dr. Fan for any procedure involving cutting. Plus, to anyone considering cosmetic surgery – whether by this doctor or another – I offer the following advice:

First, feeling as you may do now about your looks, ask yourself whether should there be complications and you wind up looking worse post surgery, how well will you be able to deal with it?

No doubt you will have repeatedly viewed the “before-and-after” photos of patients who’ve undergone the same surgery you are contemplating, but do realize ONLY the doctor’s successes are photographed.

Be equally assiduous studying the paperwork describing myriad complications, and, by initialing and signing this paperwork absolve your doctor of responsibility for said complications.

Take what you read very seriously. Office staff certainly are NOT going to say anything at all to dissuade you. Ask questions.

My “after” photo won’t ever be found on this doctor’s website.

I could easily be the every-thing-that-can-go-wrong-did-go-wrong poster child, including excessive and prolonged bleeding resulting in a thickened area of skin on my neck; permanent irreversible nerve damage of jaw, behind and around ears, under chin, and on neck; incisions that took forever to heal leaving dreadful scars; under-chin scar producing visible unsightly pooch at one side….

The entire experience was a nightmare resulting in major disappointment and months of depression.

Be skeptical of, “You’ll be back to work in two weeks”! Only after surgery when everything was going wrong was the suggestion made to me healing could take up to a year.

The year is up and healing is not over, if it ever will be.

Due to a constant indescribably weird feeling under my chin caused by damaged nerves, I am reminded every day of what I did without looking in the mirror.

It has not been easy, but fortunately my character is such I’ve been able to get on with my life and not be consumed with regret.

But I’ve been damaged and I doubt I will ever again feel myself.

Anyway, be aware. There’s no turning back once it’s done. Best of luck.

P.S. Re office staff: once apparent I was not a “success story”, the warm, supportive, effusively friendly & welcoming red-carpet treatment ended altogether, and his support staff remained hidden in their offices whenever I came in.

To date I’ve not received a single call to check how things are going for me. Crikey, even my dentist checked in following several procedures.

  1. The procedure was done under local in his office.

One word- Wow! I knew I didn’t just want Liposuction of my abdomen, but also wanted the skin tightened. My biggest concern after having three children was loose skin. I worked out regularly but no matter what size I was the loose skin on my abdomen did not go away.

The aggressive scar and downtime of a tummy tuck was not an option. Being a plastic surgery RN, I know how to pick the right doctor but I also wanted the right technology to tighten my loose skin. I found both of those in Dr. Fan, who did Lipo with Renuvion for skin tightening.

I live in Texas but chose to fly to San Francisco to be with the best physician who could provide the results I wanted with this new technology. Dr. Fan and his staff were wonderful, very attentive and extremely helpful! Dr. Fan answered all my questions and understood my concerns.

The procedure was done under local in his office. His technique, attention to detail and bedside manner were fantastic. I walked out of his office an hour after the procedure. My abdomen looks amazing! I had high expectations because I did my homework, but I was blown away by my results.

  2. They both turned out uneven.

he was nice, but the surgery turned out horrible. Sorry, never went to post op because I was slightly traumatized. I had the nurse try and put the IV in me multiple times to the point that the surgery was going to be late, then Dr Fan did it himself .

Also the other procedure I had done turned out uneven and till this day I have been traumatized from unnecessary pain that I had with lipo and bad results. (shouldn’t someone have asked if I needed more numbing? I was crying during it because it was painful, no one ever checked in to ask “do you need more numbing, does this hurt”).

But regardless of the pain. the Lipo result turned out UNEVEN. and another surgery done turned out UNEVEN. I had 2 done. They both turned out uneven.

  3. They both turned out uneven, and now I have uneven eyes. I regret surgery
