Dr. Keith Gurland

Paid the out of pocket expense

I had the unfortunate experience of coming to this office some years ago and had to tell you that it was a bad experience…. … I came to the office with a problem with seeing a black like thread in front one of my eyes and was told that I had a torn retina (that was serious for me to hear).

I was given laser surgery in the office and told to come back for a follow up approx. 6 months later…. I came back with the same black thread in the eye and then was told by this doctor that I needed another laser surgery and was again given that procedure…. This time I was also given an eye exam by the optometrist.

I went to get my prescription filled and the glasses I purchased, I could not see out of. I got another eye exam in Citilight Optometry next to Lenscrafters and paid the out of pocket expense (insurance used and I could no longer use it) to get another opinion only to find out that the eye exam was the wrong prescription…. So that was the added bonus problem.

This problem with the thread never went away so I called up months later thinking this torn retina is not getting better and the office clerk said that my insurance was no longer accepted in the office (although my insurance carrier listed Gurland) so I went to another Ophthalmologist to get the problem looked into……….. The problem was that this new doctor examined my eye after my history was given and said that there was evidence of laser surgery ever being performed and he told me to come back and he would bring in a specialist to get a second confirmation…

I came back (this specialist only comes to the office once a week) and the second doctor who is a specialist in the retina conditions, looked at my eye and also confirmed that no laser surgery was ever performed on this eye and that I never had a torn retina, I just had a floater…

I came to understand that is called INSURANCE FRAUD and those doctors were not shy about telling me about it…….. Shameful man that he has to resort to scamming people to make his practice flourish.. This is my story and I cannot recommend this office to anyone and I say Beware..I took the time to relate my experience, what you do with it is up to you.. Just be wary…

  2. I've been going there 25 years.

Not only is he an excellent Dr. (he diagnosed my detached retina in time, thus saving my eyesight) but he is a pleasant, cordial person who talks a personal interest in your health. I’ve been going there 25 years.

  3. It's not my first issue with them.

It’s not my first issue with them. They are literally the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. The first time when I booked an appointment and when arrived there, they said no appointments. Second time now with my wife when she paid her $40 copay and after 9 months, they are sending a bill home and asking for the $ 40 copay.

I called them and asked if my insurance is $40 copay for any MD; are you gonna collect this $40 before the visit or send a bill home later and she confirmed this has to be paid before seeing the doctor. I informed them that we paid this copay in cash otherwise you won’t let her enter.

  4. Keith Gurland, MD FACS Is Bad Service.

Ive been going here since i had a bad eye issue for months. I kept being told nothing was wrong and it was an “infection”. I kept going back because apparently drops didnt work. I finally requested specific tests and was sent to neuro. Happens to be i have more than an “infection” actually i didnt have an infection AT ALL.

I ended up going somewhere else who referred me to a neuro specialist- and this place WOULD NOT FAX my records. I would call everyday for a week and even came in to fill out some ridiculous release form. I kept getting the run around the dr isnt here, the dr is busy, the dr hasn’t gotten back to it. Some of the receptionists were even rude to me, and some were nice and understanding.

I ended up going to a new dr without my records from this place and actually ended up getting surgery the next day. How can a place not fax your records? it is my right to have my records. this ended up being a waste of my time.

so glad i went to other drs and this new dr who found the issue, did surgery and i am now recovering. and WHO KNOWS if my records were actually ever faxed. NOT that it matters now. Maybe it is even too late for my recovery waiting and seeing all because i was wrongly diagnosed here.
