Dr Katherine Afzal

Holistic Approach

Dr. Katherine McDermont Afzal and this practitioner are a fraud! It took me months to bring myself to write this review, and I am still in disbelief. (Note that this chiropractor is not even a medical doctor yet she calls herself a neurologist. )

First I called the office to see if they accept my insurance and they said yes. Then I made an appointment (they had lots of availability). I got there the next morning and the receptionist again confirmed they accept my insurance (BSC), took my insurance card and my ID. Then I sat down for 2 hours with McDermont. After 15mins she informed me that they don’t take insurance and it will be out of pocket most probably. I was confused but I had shoulder pain so I said OK.

This person then took my ‘medical history’ that consisted of asking most nebulous questions like ‘Was I conceived naturally’ and said they take a ‘holistic approach’. Then she did a ‘neurological exam’ (for which you’ll see she has I quote ‘900hours of training’ – believe it or not that’s enough to consider oneself skilled in that area), where she said more nebulous things like: My blood pressure is different in two sides of the body (this is actually true for every single human) and that my left and right sides of brain are uncoordinated and if I want to continue seeing them they can make my left and right brain work in accord! My friends and doctor couldn’t stop laughing at this one.

Then she suggested to take x-rays of my spine and hips (according to her that had to do a lot with my shoulder pain, which is not true and again is a scam to take more money from you) and after I told her that I have been exposed to high radiation and I wanted to avoid getting more, she claimed their x-rays are ‘new generation’ and not harmful! Now I wonder what was I thinking and was I hypnotized to agree to all this, but foolishly I did.

The x-ray showed all was good with my spine and hips (luckily!) and after a minor adjustment of my neck (at this point I didn’t trust Ms McDermont at all and was very uncomfortable trusting her with my neck or whatever adjustment she was making) I was let go and my card was charged for something around 350$, with an appointment for blood test that again my insurance would have covered (again at their place).

It took me half a day to realize that I’ve just been tricked, and of course I never went back for their blood test scam, despite their many phone calls and asking me to come back and pick up my x-rays.
Beware of these people, and I have finally got time to take steps to deal with this malpractice legally and ask for my money back.
