Dr. Josh Honeyman
Very Poor DoctorI went into the essentia ER, due to a sore throat that felt like I swallowed box of razor blades. I had not eaten or drank anything for 2 days.
The nurse asked what my pain was at on there 1-10 scale, which for over 24 hours it had been at a 9, I could not talk the pain was so severe.
The Dr. rushes in a few seconds later, ask what’s going on, he looked at my throat and said it did not look that bad, never mind I couldn’t swallow even a sip of water and had not slept and been in tears from the pain for over 24 hours.
He then inquired what kind of pain meds I was looking for.
After I told him I tried various over the counter and I had prescribed medication if that is what I needed.
He said well your not getting anything for pain except a steroid.
He said he would test me for strep. They swab my throat and bring me some steroid pills that I could not swallow.
Nor did he even care of the interaction with my other medications or what the steroids would do to my insulin dependent diabetes Thank goodness we have choices.
I had my daughter drive me straight to Sanford ER, where the Physician was actually concerned with patient care and my medical history and once he ruled out strep he was interested in finding out what my problem was, instead of giving me some steroids that I could not swallow only to cause distress with my diabetes.
If your only option is to go to Essentia I would at least request a different Doctor one that is concerned with treating your condition.
It might involve some test and a hospital stay, which I know there are some exceptional Doctors at Essentia that provide excellent care, Dr. Josh Honeyman is not one of them in my opinion.
After Two years of care at essentia, being treated like this was enough to make me transfer my care.
I pay way too much for health insurance to be treated like $4!+..
