Dr. Heidi Wittenberg

Horrible Experience

I had a horrible experience with Dr. Heidi Wittenberg SRS. After two years of having HPV, a pap smear showed that the cells were no longer normal.

I don’t understand the disease entirely, but usually, it resolves itself within two years, but in the worst case, it can result in cervical cancer.

I was unhappy that it hadn’t cleared up and had gotten worse.

During my first visit Dr, Wittenberg did a small biopsy.

She also drew a picture of a scale with cancer on one end and fine on the other.

She told me I was at the excellent end of the scale.

Then I got a call that the biopsy didn’t look good and that I would have to come in for a LEEP procedure, one in which they use an electrified wire to cut off the end of your cervix and hopefully any potential cancer with it.

So I wasn’t happy about my health, and I wasn’t pleased about having the end of my cervix cut off, but I don’t blame the doctor for that.

I don’t even blame her for cutting a blood vessel – I mean, it can happen when you’re cutting into someone’s flesh.

I blame her for how she handed the “bleeder,” as she called it.

I was in the stirrups for two hours as she struggled to stop the bleeding.

She did not have the proper needles or thread in her office to put a stitch in to close it.

It’s an effing gynecologist’s office! They should probably have some vagina-specific needles on hand!

She called all of the other medical staff into the office.

I had four women all crouched over, peering into my vagina, coaching each other on how to get the stitch in. “Try a backhand stitch with your left hand.”

She asked someone to get something from the pharmacy downstairs.

She never told me what it was, but I think it was a topical sealant-type thing.

She asked for one brand/medication, then another.

The nurse or whoever called down said they had a third type.

“Yes!” she said, cutting the nurse off. She thought she was being funny by sounding so urgent and not listening to the nurse describe the medication.

Maybe she already knew what the nurse was saying, but I didn’t think it was funny.

She also said, in a super cute voice, “you scared me!” Like haha!

Doctor, you didn’t scare me, but I was incredibly uncomfortable and baffled by your pretty ridiculous professional behavior.

That scale was totally out the window during this appointment, with me way down at the ‘no cancer’ end.

She told me that it was unusual for there to be a blood vessel there, so she thought there might be some growth (cancer).

I laid there for two hours with a crowd of strange women peering into my vagina, crying and thinking about how I would probably have to have a hysterectomy.

Then, know what? After she got the bleeding to stop with whatever medicine she got, she ripped out the speculum, which by this time had all of my pubic hair stuck to it with dried blood.

I don’t expect spa treatment from the gynecologist, but a minor consideration.

I’m sorry this isn’t better, but I just wanted to share my story.

Maybe what happened with me is unusual, but any doctor should be prepared for things that might come up during a routine procedure.

I couldn’t believe how unprepared she was.

  1. A joy

Oh, I am here to give a good review. So far, I couldn’t be happier with her bedside manner, her staff … I have had nothing but positive results so far in my visits with her.

I had a vaginoplasty, and they had already prepared me for everything that had come up. What I think is fantastic is how I can message her office direct and get replies in under an hour. I cannot get that kind of service out of my physician.

Many may not enjoy her bedside personality. But I suppose because I am older and in her age group I relate more…

She and her staff at Mosaic Care get my approval.

  2. She has delivered both of my children and always followed up w/ me in the hospital.

I have seen Dr. Wittenberg SRS for over six years, and she is fantastic. She is caring, professional, and highly knowledgeable. She has delivered both of my children and always followed up w/ me in the hospital. I agree that her office is bustling, but the nurses always promptly call me back, and I’ve never had an issue getting a prescription.

I disagree w/ the review that states Dr. Wittenberg insists on delivering all of her patients’ babies. She is overbooked and not on call 24/7, so I don’t see how this is possible. I do think she tries her best and does what she can. I highly recommend her as an OBGYN.

  3. She's the best

She’s the best, I would give her ten stars if I could. Doesn’t get any better than this doctor.

  4. I am so glad to have found her.

I had surgery with this Dr about 9 weeks ago. This is my 3rd surgery in 9 months for the same issue but not with her. She is just wonderful and her staff is also, love them all. I am so glad to have found her.

  5. Dr. Wittenberg SRS, GCS, Never again

All the reviews have been great, and I believe Dr. Wittenberg SRS is fabulous. My experience was vastly different. She is a great person and a top-notch doctor. We are due to have a baby in September with our wife. After reading the reviews, we decided to become Dr. Wittenberg’s patients.

This is where things got bad. Dr. Wittenberg would do a lot better if she had fewer patients. The staff who handle appointments are not very knowledgeable in customer service. My wife requested that they call her a prescription for prenatal vitamins. They promised they would, but we visited the pharmacy on two occasions and were not called in. They weren’t even sorry. They seem all a bit too busy.

This is our baby. Our 3rd visit was scheduled. This would be our opportunity to have an ultrasound and learn about the baby’s sexual history. It is an exciting visit. Yesterday, Dr. Wittenberg informed us that the appointment would have to be canceled and that an ultrasound would be performed at a different location than their offices. We feel like cattle. They are not in the business or pleasure of serving people.

This is a sad thing to say, considering all the positive reviews. We will likely find another doctor who we feel is invested in the birth of our child. (I believe other people have had similar experiences, and I would love to hear about them.

  6. Zero stars if that were an option.

Dr. Wittenberg performed a c-section to deliver my son that left me with Asherman’s Syndrome – a preventable condition that was a result of the surgery.

We are now working with an RE and will only be able to conceive again through IVF. Dr. W’s office has been uncooperative and she was too booked to even see me post delivery. Zero stars if that were an option.

  7. I have contemplated legal action but decided just warning others was enough. BEWARE.

Heidi Wittenberg SRS is a terrible person. She was understanding and listened to my concerns about my contractions, so I had my twins at 31 weeks. Heidi Wittenberg is an excellent choice if looking for an uncomplicated pregnancy without any complications.

One of her children has cerebral palsy. This could be because she was premature. She dismissed my post-partum depression and told me to keep it up when I said I was experiencing a severe reaction to Zoloft. It was an allergic reaction. I was eventually referred to someone who recommended something more practical, which worked well.

She didn’t call me to check how I was doing after a miscarriage. When my C-section incision was open, her nurse was astonished, and I was bleeding profusely. I could go on. I’m not difficult to please.

My other doctors are my best friends. The list of mistakes she and her staff made is endless. Although I considered taking legal action, I decided that just warning others were sufficient. BEWARE.

  8. fortunately I ignored that advice.

It is hard to believe that Dr. Wittenberg delivered a child in all the positive reviews. She gave birth to my son and was fantastic throughout the entire pregnancy. She was my regular doctor, so it was the first time she saw me. I had to have a csection, which she mismanaged and left me infertile for three years.

Following the c-section, I attempted to make an appointment. However, due to my high post-partum temperatures, I couldn’t book another appointment. I saw her only after the delivery. She had canceled my annual exam the day before and told me it would take six more months to get another appointment. I was fortunate to find a Los Angeles specialist who could identify the damage Dr. W had done to my uterus and perform three operations to fix it.

She has only time for prenatal appointments. She will not spend any time with you afterward. This is in addition to the terrible care I received in the operating room. She also advised me not to breastfeed, which I thankfully ignored.

  9. I had a terrible experience with Dr Wittenberg.

Dr. Wittenberg SRS was a horrible doctor. Although I was referred to another doctor, Dr. Wittenberg SRS delivered my baby. I experienced excruciating contractions while I was back in labor. My baby was born at 6 cm dilated.

The anaesthetician gave me an epidural, which was terrific. I was progressing well and was being assisted by a CPMC nurse-midwife, who was fabulous. The midwife helped me continue my journey even though my contractions were getting worse and I was at 10 cm dilation. Dr. Wittenberg came in at 11 am to tell everyone that I needed to have the baby by noon.

Did she have an engagement before? I asked her if she was in a hurry or if the baby was in danger. I asked her questions, but she ignored them. The midwife protested, saying that I was doing well and that if I continued to progress, the baby would be born as nature intended. However, Dr. Wittenberg snapped at me and said no. She wanted the baby out by noon.

Then she made me push and tried every method to get the baby out (forceps, vacuum, etc.), but it didn’t work. Due to the circumstances of my birth, I experienced terrible tearing. I was unable to walk or sit for three weeks. I was not offered an episiotomy or any support to repair the damage. After much pushing, my baby finally arrived in perfect health.

Dr. Wittenberg was too quick to deliver my baby, so I don’t recommend her. Although I had a wonderful experience being a mother, it took me a while to overcome the trauma of giving birth.

  10. Now I need surgery and I do not have a gynecologist.

I don’t care whether my gynecologist has the status of a “rockstar,” as one viewer said. I want her to be kind, intelligent, compassionate, and with good judgment. Although Dr. Wittenberg is a great teacher, I don’t think she has these qualities. She is still a personable, friendly person.

I was scheduled for surgery with her. In the meantime, I was experiencing significant pain and had severe health concerns. I called her office to discuss my pain. Donna, her “right-hand” medical assistant, was anything but professional and said, “What do you want us to do about it?” Her medical assistant advised me to take Tylenol. I was so desperate for an ultrasound that I had to beg for one. To get the test I needed, I had to call three times.

About a week later, I still had tough questions. I called Dr. Wittenberg SRS several times to ask for clarification. I waited five minutes before calling again. She should tell her staff to reduce all calls. Donna wouldn’t let me speak to Dr. Wittenberg. Donna attempted to relay my questions incorrectly for over a week, but I kept calling her every day for more than a week. She refused to let me speak with the doctor. I finally decided to send Dr. Wittenberg my questions. Her responses were shockingly offensive, considering my medical history.

  11. Eek! Me thinks NOT is correct!

Heidi Wittenberg forgot to mention, “…doctor, not harm. I asked a question and was expelled from her practice in less than a week. The question was sent to her office staff. I was not allowed to ask questions, but I was immediately removed from the practice and never asked again.

I was able to see that she has a highly fragile and enormous ego, which she doesn’t like manipulating.

My daughter accompanied my 2nd and final visit. I was waiting in the exam room for someone with orders to return. They didn’t show up. They never came. I was finally dressed and went into the lobby. They could be heard at lunch in the back office.

I am 71 years old. I have bleeding issues. It was medically negligent in doing the practice freeze-out at a time when it felt so wrong. She did not have any bedside manners, compassion, or consciousness of her patient, neither in the moment nor later.

One of her clerks called me to inform me that I had an infection. One of my clerks called me with a prescription for antibiotics. There was no follow-up. I was advised to consult another gynecologist and undergo another invasive test.

OUCH! I was expelled. Wittenberg decided that we weren’t a good match for each other as a doctor/patients. I wrote Wittenberg a sorry letter in which I explained to her the stressors that were causing my severe depression.

  12. My son and daughter-in-law are both surgeons and treat their patients with kindness and respect.

After a bad experience with this doctor, I thought I would write a review. Before writing my review, I read all of the thoughts and was amazed by the differing experiences. Her insensitivity was shocking to me. I hoped we could discuss solutions to a severe problem in which she is supposed to be an expert.

She took a history typing without even looking at me and said that she would need to examine me before making any recommendations. The procedure was repeated twice more, and she did not discuss the options or warn me about the pain.

She may not be old enough to feel the pain of vaginal dryness, but she should. After suffering for the remainder of the day, the procedure was a complete disaster. I experienced an excruciating problem during the night. She didn’t see me again when I told her about my situation, but she did answer some questions.

The doctor must have missed the class on bedside manner at medical school. What reason would I expect sensitivity in a doctor accustomed to wearing motorcycle boots in the exam rooms? My son and daughter-in-law are surgeons who treat patients with kindness, respect, and compassion.
