Dr. Dean Toriumi

Do not ruin your nose by consulting Dr. Toriumi

I wanted the rhinoplasty and for the same reasons I consulted Dr. Dean Toriumi. I met him the first time when I was seeking the cosmetic surgery a year back. However, this guy turned my life a complete disaster. I have waited a year to write this review because I wanted to give him enough time to prove the surgery, he did on me was right.

Whenever I talked to him about the surgery that did not go as discussed, he suggested that I should wait longer to realize the actual effects of the surgery. He every time asked me to wait a bit more. I gave him enough time to prove his claim, but he failed.

When I started consulting Dr. Dean, I was very clear about my expectations. I told him that I needed to fix my breathing problems as well as wanted to improve the appearance of my nose. During the consultation, he never asked me any particular change that I was looking for. This was a red flag which I realized later.

He did provide me a form to fill the preferences. He showed me an image how the nose would look after the surgery which has nothing different but just a straightened nose. He talked me into focusing into the breathing problem more than the cosmetic surgery for appearance. He did not even discuss the form that I filled which has few major preferences that I wanted.

After the surgery, my nose looked bulky with downward tip and the tip looked like a bulb. My nose did not fit with the other features on my face. When I asked why he did that to me. He said that he did not know what I was looking for.

He must have discussed it with me or even by looking at the form, he would have known what I wanted. The worst part is that my breathing is still not improved completely. While laying straight on my back, my nose still feels stuffy and is difficult to breathe that way. After talking over and over again, he did offer me a fix for the surgery.

And, I did meet him at his clinic. However, he still seemed more defensive that trying to provide resolution. Moreover, he wasn’t talking to me as he did it the last time. I was too scared to go with the surgery with him. So, I decided I would take the losses and would go see another doctor. As of now, I am like this with bulky nose and all my pictures are scary.

I am looking for another doctor and this time, I am being cautious about bumping into any naïve doctor. I would be doing proper research before giving someone the right to change the way I look. And, this time, I would be careful while choosing my doctor.

Dr. Dean is an unprofessional and unskilled doctor. His reviews are fake. He knows nothing about cosmetic surgery.

  1. His fee was twice that as the other surgeon plus he wanted to bill our insurance in addition.

Saw Dr. Toriumi for a consultation for my son. He misled us as to the severity of my son’s deviated septum which we learned when we saw another surgeon for a second opinion.

Additionally, his billing practices are suspect. He charged me out-of-pocket for the consult then billed our insurance as well. His fee was twice that as the other surgeon plus he wanted to bill our insurance in addition.

  2. Dr Toriumi has a questionable aesthetic sense; and a tendency to be sloppy, callous and unethical. Be warned.

My ear donor sites are a mess (painful to sleep on and aesthetically worse than pre-op). He has abandoned me, and in an extremely mean and condescending way.

I was also the victim of a sadistic assault on the operating table by an agency nurse (in front of numerous staff witnesses who obviously all knew what they witnessed was a criminal assault) but my allegation was ignored by Dr Toriumi, his underlings and the surgical centre.

I’m still trying to obtain copies of my records a year after requesting them, and Dr Toriumi and cronies are lying to the Office for Civil Rights about it.

    1. Hi

Hi Can i talk to you about your revision

  3. Very rude!

I consulted Dr Dean Toriumi 10 years ago. He was rude, mean, autocratic and seemingly disinterested. He tried to belittle me in front of his pupil. After much hesitation I decided to have surgery with him anyway because I mistook his arrogance for expertise.

Following surgery my nose was extremely swollen and ugly. I was in profound shock. He offered no advice to deal with the swelling. The follow up meetings were a sick joke – with his tantrums and barely concealed condescension/disdain. Bullyboy tactics. I spent years avoiding mirrors and photographs.

After a minor closed revision from a different surgeon Dr Toriumi’s very bulky/clunky tip cartilage was refined down a bit, but the tip continued to drop. A year ago Dr Toriumi finally agreed to revise his own work. It was a nightmare getting him to do it.

He spent a year telling me that he was waiting for “permission” to operate when in truth he was deciding by himself if he could be bothered. After this revision of his own work and two more in office needle procedures,

the bulky tip is improved a bit. But it’s pinched on the dorsum and there is no tip cartilage in one side of my nose. As a result, I can’t breathe properly and need to find a new revision surgeon.

  4. Not because of Dean... because of his "patient coordinator"

Flew to Chicago for a consult. Dean seemed great. Honest, Caring… Patricia on the other hand… Patient Coordinator should not be a title she deserves. She went over pricing.

No personality at all. Via email at first seemed nice. After I emailed about booking a 24,000 surgery, and asking if his price was firm, she never got back to me.

Send multiple emails. Nothing… Find another company. Not because of Dean… because of his “patient coordinator”

  5. His secretary was extremely rude and short when i spoke to her on the phone.

His secretary was extremely rude and short when i spoke to her on the phone. He’s also a very expensive doctor considering he is a so and so doctor.
