Dr. Dan Kalshan

I Was Disappointed

I was disappointed by my experience with Dr. Dan Kalshan.

I went to Dr. Kalshan for a routine physical and he sent me to a lab to have some blood work done.

I was supposed to hear back in 2-3 weeks about the results of the lab tests.

A month later I still hadn’t heard anything, so I called Dr. Kalshan’s office.

Nobody answered the phone, the voice mailbox was full, and the message did not indicate that he was on vacation or out of the office.

I called a week later and the receptionist answered the phone.

I told her that I hadn’t heard back about the results from my lab tests, so she looked up the results, read them for a couple of minutes, and then told me that everything looks fine to her.

It’s great that she thinks I’m fine, but it’s hard for me to believe that I shouldn’t be discussing my lab results with the doctor rather than the receptionist.

Also, I did not perceive Dr. Kalshan to be very competent as many of the other reviewers did.

Webmd.com was more helpful to me than Dr. Kalshan about one particular problem that I asked him about.

When I looked up his medical school, I found that it ranks in the bottom third as far as the average MCAT score of its incoming students.

I will not go back to Dr. Kalshan.

  1. Well this has NEVER, not one single time, EVER gone smoothly.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Kalshan’s for almost 2 years now. I have nothing but endlessly good things to say about this guy. He has always been genuinely concerned about my health and how it related to my quality of life!

I am a somewhat special patient of his since I am one of the Suboxone patients. After a serious back injury and the related disc surguries and crippling pain associated with it, I, unfortunately, found myself dependent on narcotic painkillers. Suboxone saved my life and my career.

When I first moved to the SF Bay area from Denver, I’d been a Suboxone patient for 3 years. I chose Dr. Kalshan since he was the nearest qualified doctor to treat Suboxone patients to my workplace in the SF Financial District. I have nothing but respect for his empathetic quality care.

I do, however, have serious concerns over what I percieve to be some kind of serious communication breakdown between Dr. Kalshan and his receptionist. Dr. Kalshan agreed to refill my Suboxone prescription on a regular basis and told me to simply have my pharmacy fax him the refill request when needed and he would authorize it.

The problem is that everytime Walgreen’s faxes my refill request it seems to mysteriously “get lost”, and I end up getting forced to suffer the terriblly inhumane and painful effects of Suboxone withdrawal (once for as long as 2 weeks!) for many days after Walgreen’s comfirms the refill fax was successfully sent.

Upon contacting his receptionist, I’m often told that she never recieved it. She then tells me to have them resend the request, which they do, and that she will make sure Dr. Kalshan gets it and promises he will take care of it between patients.

Well this has NEVER, not one single time, EVER gone smoothly. All I hear from the receptionist is that either she didn’t get it, or that she got it and it will be taken care of by the end of the day.

  2. She is the proof that "good help is hard to find".

Dr. Kalshan is great and totally upbeat, it’s obvious he loves his job. The office is nice and c lean too. But the receptionist is just horrible. Terrible phone disposition, especially if you have an HMO. She never announces her name when answering the phone, you may as well be talking to a machine.

And when you go into the office there is no eye contact whatsoever, she’ll just continue to talk on the phone or shuffle papers until she’s ready to tell you to have a seat. She is the proof that “good help is hard to find”.

  3. Never Again

Dr. Kalshan received such great reviews I was considering making him my primary care physician. I phoned his office to make an appointment and get info and found the office was closed for a week as doctor was on vacation. I figured that was reasonable as we all need a vacation.

Called back this week, when they re-opened and have received a recording for 2 days. Can never get a live person to answer phone. Left a voice mail saying I wanted to make an appointment and never got a return phone call. Needless to say,

I have abandoned my efforts to make Dr. Kalshan my primary doctor which is too bad because the reviews were so stellar and he sounds like a great doctor.
