Dr. Alex Rabinovich

Unprofessional Staff

If you are thinking about going to Dr. Alex Rabinovich, take a careful look at the negative reviews here before making your decision.

You’ll see that many of them relate to highly questionable billing issues for procedures outside of normal wisdom teeth work, and unprofessional staff.

This office is currently trying to bill me $2400 for an office visit, CAT scan, and bite guard.

The only reason I went to Dr. Rabinovich in the first place was because I found him as an in-network MD on my insurer’s website.

Before I agreed to any of these services, their office told me that they were covered, that I have “very good” insurance, and I only needed to pay a small “copay.”

After my first visit, in which Dr. Rabinovich recommended I use a bite guard based on my scan, their office represented to me that they had contacted my insurance and confirmed the bite guard was covered, so it was okay to proceed if I paid a 10% copay of the total amount ($1400).

Then they (over)billed my insurer $1800 for the bite guard. It turns out the bite guard is not a covered treatment, but they are now trying to force me to pay the inflated amount they billed to insurance.

In addition, I know that my office visit and CAT scan should be covered as diagnostic procedures, but they are still trying to force the entire bill on me instead of trying to work together with my insurer.

I was willing to go back to Dr. Rabinovich if this billing issue was resolved, but no longer.

  1. Good experience there today.

Good experience there today. God staff and work. Only confusing part is two payments made for one visit.

  2. Though I was mildly annoyed and pushy, the staff was extremely patient with me.

Let me start by stating that I hold excellent customer service in the highest regard. Doctors aside, the support staff at Dr. Rabinovich’s office were consistently pleasant, patient, and professional. I experienced some challenges with billing during my initial visit. Though I was mildly annoyed and pushy, the staff was extremely patient with me.

They returned all calls in a very prompt manner and never showed ill or foul communications towards me – only kindness and professionalism. And I applaud that! I was assured that all of my concerns with the estimate would be remedied once an actual bill was created for work performed.

The wisdom tooth extraction process itself was quick and pretty much painless. I did however, have to come back to the office for a couple of follow up appointments. Dr. Rabinovich is very knowledgeable. He address my concerns and I was out the door within minutes.

I will add, know what services you want before you go in. They may try to up-sell you. That’s the only thing that keeps me from leaving 5 stars. I would recommend this practice to anyone.

  3. Be warn, if there was ever a dispute with this office, this could be the treatment you will receive.

I should have checked all the negative reviews before going in. I normally do not write negative feedback but this is one of the incidents I felt obliged to:

    1. When encountered a billing issue, the person at the office refused to hear from me, the customer, and actually hung up the phone.
    2. They billed me for a mistake they made with the appointment almost one year after the appointment.
    3. Doctor refused to speak to customer after repeated requests.

Dr. Rabinovich was referred to me by my physician for a TMJ consultation. When I made an appointment, I specifically asked if the consultation was covered and the staff checked my insurance and said yes.

When I showed up at my appointment and sat down at the dentist chair, the office manager told me they made an mistake, thought I was there for wisdom teeth extraction. She said it was their mistake and will not charge me. I told her I do not want to proceed because I was under the impression it is covered.

10 months later, I got a bill asking for payment so I called and explained the situation and told the office person that this must be a misunderstanding. I asked to speak to the doctor when he is available. The person refused to consider anything I said about the situation, and told me the doctor would not speak to me and hung up.

  4. I am disgusted with him and told him I would report him.

I am disgusted with him and told him I would report him. He LAUGHED and told me “I’m the head of my department, I work for myself.” And then he hung up. This man truly does not care about helping people and only wants you to get surgery, which is not recommended for TMJ.

I will be reporting him both the California board of medical doctors and board of dentists because this is unacceptable and unprofessional on so many levels. His staff doesn’t listen to their messages until days later and one even told me that they hadn’t reviewed the messages from last night (it was past 2 pm) when I called.

DO NOT GO TO THIS MAN. He will not help you or even pretend to help you. My first visit he took X-rays and left. I had to get one of his staff to make him come back and explain the X-rays to me. All of my 3 visits with him have been horrible.

He spends about 5 minutes with you and sends you on your way. I am appalled at the way he treated me on the phone and truly believe he “will not work with me” because I am a woman who challenged him. Please do your research before taking any medication from him.

His license should be revoked and he should not be anywhere in the medical field. Oh and my nightguard cost $2,700. When I told him I had chipped another filling he told me the filling was probably loose. It was my fourth one. He takes absolutely no responsibility for his actions and refuses to help you if you go against him. He will not even look at the nightguard he made you!!!

  5. DO NOT GO SEE THIS "DOCTOR".

DO NOT GO SEE THIS “DOCTOR”. He will not help you and only wants your money. His staff is extremely rude as is he. I have severe TMJ and he told me my next step was surgery.

He prescribed me CELEBREX.. a medication that is contraindicated with the Celexa I already take. When I found this out (from my own research) I left a voicemail at the office explaining I could not take the Celebrex and felt very frustrated as to why I was given this prescription and that I needed something else for my pain. He returned my call and boy was he LIVID.

He verbatim told me “I am not a TMJ specialist, those medicines aren’t contraindicated, and I will not shave your nightguard down every month.” Oh but here is where his true unprofessionalism came out, when he claimed “I tried to help you by prescribing you this and you left me an angry voicemail and are trying to blame me.

I will not work with you anymore.” I WAS SHOCKED. How in the world can you turn away a patient whose next step is surgery only because I challenged him on my the medication he tried to push on me. (Celebrex is similar to Vioxx and causes major GI issues and I already have IBS).

  6. Never Again

Since April 19th I made several calls to alex rabinovich, DDS, MD, Inc. clinic inquiring about the status of my refundable deposit and was told that insurance company hasn’t issued a payment yet.

I’ve also made several calls to insurance company and was told that the clinic doesn’t comply with its industry treatment details standarts and all payment claims were declined with the the request of new treatment details explanation. 3 weeks ago one of the insurance representative was kind enough to facilitate a phone call between respected departments of the clinic and insurance company in order to sort out any issues with claims.

On June 18th I called the insurance company again and was told that another treatment explanation provided by alex rabinovich, DDS, MD, Inc. was rejected on June 15th due to insufficient details for requested claim. I just got off the phone with the clinic manager which I talked to during my first visit.

She said that I visited the clinic 5 times (not true – it was 3 times ) after my first visit and each of those visits required a copay (not true, each time I was told by the office staff that copay wasn’t needed ) of $20 therefore my deposit can not be issued back to me any longer.

  7. Bad Service Provide

When I returned 2 weeks after to pick up the splint I was told that the $100 will be withheld until insurance company will pay the clinic for their services.

I was trying to insist to get any explanation since it was not what was promised to me initially, but I was told that I must have misunderstood something and that I should call the insurance company to ask when the payment will be processed – only then the deposit will be returned to me.

The splint that was issued to me wasn’t fitting me well and I had to come back 2 more times for it to be adjusted. I was told by the doctor and the staff that I can come back as many times as needed for it to fit. I was also instructed by the staff member that copayment is not required before each splint adjustment visit.

  8. Scammer

On April 19th 2018 I made my first visit to alex rabinovich, DDS, MD, Inc. clinic with concerns related to my jaw. My insurance required $20 copay for the visit which was collected at the time of the visit. After a scan and initial assessment I was prescribed to use a night guard/splint by dr rabinovich.

I’ve been told by the staff of the clinic that my insurance(United Health Care) plan pre-approved 100% of the treatment but clinic collects $100 refundable deposit in order to proceed with issuing the night splint.

When I asked the staff member to provide me with more details about the deposit she called the manger who explained that it takes up to 2 weeks for the splint to be produced and deposit is a form of guaranty to stimulate patients to come back when splint is ready.

Manager also added that insurance company does not cover the treatment costs in case of no show – It didn’t make much logical sense but I decided to pay it anyway. Before leaving the office I was told that next visit will not require copay and that $100 deposit will be issued back to me then.
