Cohen Financial

Loan Service

Contacted Mark because a friend of mine recommended Cohen Financial for a HELOC.

After a brief call with Mark he asked me to email over some tax info, which I did promptly for his review to to see if we’d qualify.

The next day I got an email saying he could do the loan and also received a hard credit inquiry notice from Credit Karma telling me they pulled my credit.

I was surprised, so I emailed him immediately asking if he had authorized my credit to be pulled, as I had not discussed this with him.

He literally pulled my social security number off my tax info and submitted it without asking me. Wow!

But… He said he’d be willing to do the loan, so no big deal? Right? Wrong!

Mark forgot to ask me which STATE our home was in… Whoops! He didn’t even have the ability to help us if he wanted to.

I ended up emailing him one last time to see if there was anything we could do and he immediately asked me to jump on a call.

On the call, he proceeded to review everything AGAIN and tell me he COULD do the loan… Not realizing AGAIN that I lived in a different state. Madness!

Not to mention I am now stuck with a worthless hard credit inquiry on my credit report.

Be warned about these “yes men” who don’t have any attention to detail.

Are you sure you want to sign a mortgage with people who can’t bother to lookup the state you live in, or ask permission to pull a credit report?

  1. Dangerous! Do not work witb Cohen financial!

We were unable to pay our mortgage during covid. We contacted cohen financial to try to get a deferment or something. They were completely unwilling. We were charged 45% interest and compounded penalties. We started with a $250,000 loan and ended up paying cohen financial $465,000 in penalty fees and interest. We were forced to declare bankruptcy and sell our home. We have nothing left and are barely getting by. We will never get ahead because of this. I can’t believe this is legal!

  2. Would recommend them to anyone.

Had a great experience with Mark and his wonderful assistant Sasan. Made my first home buying experience simple and stress free. They worked very quick and were extremely easy to work with. Would recommend them to anyone.

  3. Cohen Financial just ignored the whole thing and hoped I would go away. In a way, I did.

I had a very disappointing experience with this company. Referred by a friend who said they were great to work with, I first had them perform a refinance on my primary residence after they represented that there would be absolutely no fees involved.

The refi went through fairly successful, but it took every ounce of energy I had plus threats of lawsuits and finally the help of a caring administrative assistant to get all my fees reimbursed several months after the loan completion. Shortly after initially starting my primary residence refi, I asked if I could obtain a no fee refi on a second home and was told that I could. My partner and I submitted loan applications and waited months to obtain our loan on the second home.

I was being told it was coming along, but I heard nothing….finally after receiving the last of my out of pocket fees on the loan for the primary residence, and knowing nothing was happening to the refi on the second home, I cancelled the second refi.

I finally, on my own, figured out the government paid fees that I think Cohen Financial expected on the 2nd home never applied and rather than admit they made a mistake when they told me I would not have to pay fees on the 2nd home, Cohen Financial just ignored the whole thing and hoped I would go away. In a way, I did.

  4. Their fee was was double what was originally quoted.

This company completely messed up and cost us a good $10,000 extra in fees and interest. Because they delayed the work on our loan until the last minute we almost lost the home we were buying and had thousands of dollars in extra costs and fees.

Their communication with us through the whole process was absolutely minimal. We had no idea that there were complications until the day of closing when we received a call from them asking for many more documents and extra down payment.

It was only then that we were informed that we were not getting the type of loan that we were originally quoted on and that they were going to charge extra fees so that they could make their margin. We ended up closing over a week late and could easily have lost our entire deposit. Their fee was was double what was originally quoted.

  5. I'm sorry I ever started with these guys. Next time, I'll just walk in to the bank.

They must be believing all the press about them because it seems a level of arrogance has set in. Unreturned phone calls and bad customer service seem to be the norm here. They forgot where they came from. Mark -you’re not God, you’re just a mortgage broker!

  6. For your peace of mind I would suggest you stay away from working with this awful service.

I can not recommend Cohen Financial and I will advise potential client to stay away from applying for their services. Their customer service is horrible, I started with my refinance efforts in March of and provide them with all the necessary documents and forms for the refinance I even was asked to pay $880 for my house appraisal which I did!

and as of November I am still waiting to hear from Mark Cohen or his staff. I placed many phone calls with them to check for the status of my application, hardly got any reply or indication from Mark Cohen. Sent many emails as well with no reply from mark Cohen.

I can summarize my experience I had with Mark Cohen and his staff as a very frustrating one. For your peace of mind I would suggest you stay away from working with this awful service.

  7. It's about manners sometimes and there is no cost associated with being professional.

Having known Mark for years and getting loans through his company in the past, I thought this would be a no brainer to use Cohen Financial. I got the shock of my life when calls were never returned and to date,

I still have not even heard back from Mark to even get a yes or no on my original loan request- this after numerous emails to get a response. I understand that not all loans or refi’s can be processed but for heavens sake, call the client back and tell them that. It’s about manners sometimes and there is no cost associated with being professional.
