Chartway Is Impossible To Deal With, RudeChartway Federal Credit Union took over a credit union I had been using previously then started billing me for not using the account once switched over to them.
I tried calling to close the account, they said since my account is “dormant” it now has a negative balance with late charges and would need to be paid before they will close the account.
Asked to pay with a card by phone, they said they cannot accept cards, but if I called in with a routing and account they can take a payment from a checking account and close it.
I tried calling back with a checking account and now that I was actually able to get ahold of someone they said they require me to come in to a physical location ( which I haven’t been to ) to pay to close an account ( that I never opened with them ) and will continue to accrue late fees until I do so.
They also don’t know why I would think that I could by by phone.
Open an account with America First or Mountain America.
Chartway is impossible to deal with, rude, and seems like the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.
I will be paying off this loan ASAP and NEVER doing business with them AGAIN!
This has been the worst experience with a bank. I recently applied for a home equity line of credit. The “loan officer” was a call center worker in Virginia only worked Monday, Tuesday, half of Thursday and Friday. So it was impossible to get an answer from her on anything. She never could give me any type of expectation of timeframe when the process would end. It took 12 Weeks! It should have taken 4. I almost lost thousands of dollars on a purchase of a second home because of her incompetence.
When I was finally able to get a supervisor involved and get the process moving in the right direction there still wasn’t great communication. They told me they would refund the appraisal cost, I had to call back in again weeks after closing to get that done. You can’t actually get a local physical person on the phone, it routes through their call center across the country.
I almost immediately paid 6% of the loan back, which should have made the regularly scheduled monthly payments go more towards principle because the interest accrued would be less. The first two regularly scheduled monthly payments have gone all to interest.
When I email for a new amortization schedule they tell me to call in to that horrible call center. The issue is I will need something in writing, this is something that should be able to be handled not through the call center. I will be paying off this loan ASAP and NEVER doing business with them AGAIN!

I’ve had no issues before today. The bank is small, and once you navigate thru the ridiculously lengthy process of trying to speak to an actual employee, they have good customer service. I’ve had my truck loan with them for about three years now, it’s a 72 month loan on.
I’ve missed my first automated payment on the 17th (two days ago), today being the 19th, it’s now paid. The result of this was a $10 fee and something close to $40 payment for processing the payment. This is the petty shit, that will keep me from financing another $40k truck with them.
This is the worst bank
This is the worst bank I have ever had the displeasure of attempting to do a HELOC with. They took over two months and then want a new appraisal. Awful is nice. Do not use them for your banking needs.
