Outrageous estimate! My regular plumber was unavailable until after Thanksgiving, so I called Cardinal Plumbing to come replace a laundry sink pump with an identical model I had already bought in an easily accessible location. It looked like less than an hour’s work for an experienced plumber and would probably have taken me two hours to do myself. The technician on-site handed me an estimate of $375 to do the job, which is nearly what we paid another company for both the pump ($280 from Amazon today) and the labor in 2009. I paid the $49 minimum service call charge and sent him on to his next call. The icing on the cake was tonight when I came across the “Free Estimate” in my email. If I paid $49 for the guy to come out and all he did was give me an estimate, it wasn’t free.
