Capital One Credit

Fraudulent Transaction

Capital One Credit is not a good card for foreign travel. It used to be. Now every foreign charge gets flagged as a possible fraudulent transaction and your card will not be usable until you respond to an email referencing that transaction.

My recent experience involved booking a concert in Barcelona.

The capital one system was so slow that the foreign merchant declined my concert reservation before capital one sent out an email.

There is not a way around being continually hooked up with email to capital one for foreign travel.

They used to have a system in which you advise them of travel dates and travel countries and transactions from those countries in that timeframe would be approved.

Now they decline every foreign transaction until you get a chance to approve the transaction via email.

So you have to have an email system that works in a foreign country and be in a place that has Internet connectivity.

If you are in the middle of Galicia (the northwest corner of Spain) your Internet connectivity may suck.

  1. terrible

Capitol One should not file disputes if there are terms and conditions, it results in a loss and leaves us customers completely unsatisfied. especially after you are promised you will get your money back if you dispute.

  2. A company like that does the bait and switch tactic to attract new customers is no company to do business with.

I opened an account based on Capital One’s website that explained I would receive $200 for opening a new checking account and making a $1,000 deposit into it before the end of June.I clicked through the link and was prompted to open the account and gave them all my details and did an electronic transfer at the same time of opening the account before the end of June.

The deposit processed in middle of June so no problems there. I had to take the money out of my Roth IRA retirement account to fund it so it was a whole ordeal to do this all but I thought the $200 was worth it.

I called the bank and they held my money for around 5-6 business days. I then called in to ask whether or not I could access the money right away or if that would make my not eligible for the $200 offer.

They proceeded to tell me that they saw no such offer on my account and that they would do nothing to honor the offer. Despite it being on there website for everyone to see, and me clicking directly through that link to open the account.

  3. I just don't have enough credit history.

I’ve had a credit card for 2 years with Capital One have had the same credit line for 2 years, with out an increase. I only got a card with Capital One because they help establish your credit. However, they reel you in by keeping you at the same limit the entire way.

I needed to raise my credit score for a home loan. Now i’m stuck with Capital One because I cannot run anymore credit anywhere else or we’ll have to wait another 6 months before moving. My credit card started off as unsecured, after 1 year and 4 months they finally changed me to secured. 7 months later still no increase from the original $500.00.

I’ve always made payment before they are due, never missed a payment or have I ever used the entire $500.00. If you need to establish credit, DON’T USE CAPITAL ONE. I also looked up the review before applying and everyone said that they received an increase in 6 months even after bankruptcy or they got 10-20 points the first 2-3 months using there card. LIES. I have -0- issues with my credit, I just don’t have enough credit history.
