Bookstore Movers

Four out of the five guys they sent showed up on time, and heard

I hired Bookstore Movers on the advice of a friend for one reason only: to move my (prodigious quantity) of vinyl. You can’t stack vinyl, or it warps. Four out of the five guys they sent showed up on time, and heard me specify: DON’T STACK THE VINYL.

The fifth guy from Bookstore Movers, who professed to be a music lover, told them it was okay to stack them “as long as they’re flush” and when I walked in my living room, the vinyl boxes were stacked three deep. So I’m looking forward to years of finding bent or busted records from this move.

The guys were nice enough, but they showed up at my new place almost thirty minutes after I did (and I left after them), and one of them walked up eating some fresh hot fries. At 250 bucks an hour. Give that to the guys hanging out at the U-Haul lot, believe me they’re motivated to work.

  1. I was so pleased that I decided to use the company again this year despite receiving a few lower quotes.

I give this company three stars because I had a fantastic move with them a few years ago, and a middling second move with them this month–not abysmal, but not great.

The first time around, the movers were punctual, very personable, efficient, and made the entire experience of moving nearly stress-free. They wouldn’t let me touch a thing and had me in my new place in slightly under the estimated time. I was so pleased that I decided to use the company again this year despite receiving a few lower quotes.

This time around, the movers were also punctual, polite, and moderately friendly. They generally took good care of my items, and I think that I only had one small nick on a table that they moved–even that was very small. My paintings and furniture all made it to my new apartment in one piece and in good condition despite there being a good amount of rain outside for nearly the entirety of my move.

  2. I'll let you piece that one together.

My only complaint is that they’re probably a little too fast for their own good. Following my move, I was missing a whole set of screws to put my bed back together as well as screws to a 60 inch television stand. If I had to offer any advice,

I’d recommend that you disassemble these items yourself in advance of the move so that you’re not at risk of having them disappear on you during the reassembly process. Or, if you’d rather have them do it for you, keep on them to make sure they’re not forgetting important items so you don’t end up at your new place spending the first few weeks looking for items that aren’t actually there.

  3. They were very fast and efficient.

They were very fast and efficient. But, I am missing two items and they claim they haven’t been able to find them. One of my movers had a very bad attitude (Maurice). He was pissed off and couldn’t figure out how to shorten the legs on my desk to fit it through the door. All he needed was a screw driver to loosen the screws.

They also broke the wheels on my office chair. Make sure you have everything packed up in boxes or transport loose items over yourself because you run the risk of having them lost. I don’t really understand how items can get lost unless they were careless and left them at the loading dock and the trash picked it up. I recommend checking each loading dock before the movers leave.

  4. I used these guys because someone referred me to them.

I used these guys because someone referred me to them. They were almost an hour late and 2 of the guys smelled like weed. They broke a few things and several items were missing. They did however move everything within 3 hours.

  5. Their customer service needs a lot of work!

Their customer service needs a lot of work! The man that I spoke with was curt and short.

  6. Not good communication afterwards.

  7. The service is very poor, the phone calls are neglected the emails are ignored no correct feedback from anyone still waiting for my child’s money
