Bellco Credit Union – Downtown has horrible customer service. Save yourself time and energy and go with a credit union who values its members!

We were charged hundreds of dollars in overdraft fees and they refused to remove them.

The overdraft occurred by a purchase that came out even though I cancelled it.

That caused a negative balance which snowballed into my debit card purchases of $1 here and $2 there to incur $31 overdraft per purchase.

Even though the merchant was not suppose to make the withdrawal, it’s not their error and will not remove the fees.

I also have alerts for my account that are suppose to notify if there is a low or negative balance.

It notified me 2 days later when the account was already at -$786.

  1. I understand if I was past the 10 day period, but a day later makes me feel like I am in trouble.

    If I could rate Bellco’s service lower than one star I would. Their online banking for paying with a debit card hasn’t worked since I signed up for online bill paying. On the phone you have to pay collections since it is an outside payment.

    Sometimes, during their business hours, it will say no one in collections is there to take your payment and hangs up on you. When you do get a hold of somebody and are even a day late, they will actually ask what the reasoning behind being late is. I understand if I was past the 10 day period, but a day later makes me feel like I am in trouble.

    Their customer service people always sounds like they use the worst phones/microphones out there. Muffled and cuts out so it is very hard to hear. They also give the thing we report to the BBB every 30-60-90 day thing and just prolong the phone call when you have already had to go through wait times and transfers to get a hold of someone in collections.

    They are awful. You can’t e-mail them from their website, and if you call them you have to navigate through a ton of prompts.

    I paid off a loan over a week ago and requested a payoff letter. I never received it and called again today. They said they had no record of a previous request.

  3. This credit union is the worst.

    This credit union is the worst. Making up bullshit late fees for 13cents that was paid back in June but not say anything nor call or send mail. This credit union is a joke. I have one payment let to pay off my car and they are making it the biggest pain in the ass!

    I will never recommend this place to anyone ever!!! If I could give it negative stars I would! Never had so many problems when trying to pay something until I started using this joke of a credit union. I’d take being in the hunger games over dealing with this shit!

  4. DON'T USE THEM, THEY ARE A CORRUPT CREDIT UNION

    Do not use Bellco for any type of loan and much less a home equity loan. They do not have processes that are clear for the consumer, and then issue you out the wrong card for your account so that you cant use the funds that you have borrowed from them (happened to me for 2 months).

    They fail to tell costumers about their processes and then add negative credit to your credit report. You dispute the item with them via their processes and they emailed me out a letter telling me they sided with my dispute and then sent me a letter to tell me that they decided to leave my report as is. SHAME ON YOU BELLCO!!!!!!!!!

  5. This place is definitely a lemon.

    Stay away from anything this institution offers. They have quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever encountered. They lose paperwork, and even though this hardly seems possible even electronic communications get lost. This place is definitely a lemon.

  6. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BELLCO! Absolutely atrocious company!!!!

    Heed this warning people, for your sake, DO NOT USE THIS CREDIT UNION!! They are the most irresponsible, inconsiderate, incompetent credit union I have EVER dealt with!! I normally don’t write reviews, but in the 5 years I’ve had an auto loan with them, it has been THE MOST FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE! They called and asked me for the title to my vehicle that THEY own!

    When talking with customer service they simply implied that they had no idea what was going on?! Additionally, they lost payments from my insurance company on my totaled vehicle THREE TIMES!!! And took FOUR full months to process the GAP claim and close the account! For your own sanity and financial well being, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BELLCO! Absolutely atrocious company!!!!

  7. Scammer

    The initial online application failed because I was advised by a supervisor to not to complete it and instead first mail my check for $20 to the Bellco Foundation. After several more calls was able to print out the Bellco Foundation application and mail.

    Many more phone calls and supervisor emails to Peggy Poe were not responded to I was finally emailed a paper application to Bellco credit union. 8 days later it was time to mail $60 for membership and $10 processing fees. Week later establish the account transfer the money.

    The last phone rep thought my wife needed to reapply when all he needed to do was look up and give us the account number.

  8. This has had a serious negative impact on my credit.

    This is absolutely the worst financial institution I have ever dealt with. We had a payment that was past due and when we spoke with a collections rep we were assured that if we gave them permission to initiate a payment from our bank account the day before the account went 30 days late we would not be reported late. They initiated the withdrawal as scheduled and reported us late anyway because they didn’t post the payment on the date they initiated it.

    Then, they reported the next payment late even though it was made early. When I contacted customer service I was told that Bellco wouldn’t do anything to correct the issues and that I would need to contact the three credit bureaus to get it taken care of even though it was Bellco’s error. This has had a serious negative impact on my credit.

  9. Bad Service.

    2nd their contact form is an automated response probably a robot that can’t get the gist of the context of my contact message to them. The response made no sense and wasn’t even close to addressing my request..
    3rd–customer contact back out to me–no human ever reached out though they have had my contact info.

    If it is this hard to put money into their system, I can only imagine the difficulties I’ll have getting it out. Good thing they have ample competition here in Denver….

    They keep posting incorrect things to my credit report! I have sent them numerous documents and credit reports and made so many calls. I feel so defeated and they still have it wrong! I have been dealing with this for over 6 months!!! They keep giving me vague answers and have been so unhelpful! I will never use this bank again. So disappointed after being a customer for over 10 years.

    It’s Saturday. Most people who bank with you work during the week. They come on Saturday. Why only one teller???

    Six years ago my husband and I had to file a chapter 7. It was our business at that time but you have to file a personal as well. I lost my husband almost four years ago and I have been working hard to turn things around. My credit rating is excellent.

    I have been a Bellco member for twenty years. Bellco has flagged my account so I cannot use Premier credit union for any transactions. I pass by there almost daily I feel I am being discriminated against. I am going to change banks after all this time.

    So now its having to change all the direct deposits and automatic deductions. What a pain. Also the manager of the Westminster branch could care less.

    If I could give Bellco a NEGATIVE STAR I WOULD. I have been with them for 18 years. 13 years ago there was an issue on a Bellco Credit Card. It was since resolved but it took a bit back then to get it all taken care of. Our line of credit, which there has never been an issue with in the 18 years we have been with them and payment is automatically paid out of our account monthly. We recently purchased a home.

    While in the middle of our financial process for our home, Bellco CLOSES MY ACCOUNT and hits my credit report negatively. I had no idea what was going on. NO ONE NOTIFIED ME. Called them and after hours of research their “new computer system” caught the 13 YEAR OLD ERROR and closed our account.

    No warning, no explanation….nothing. Called them and was basically told that they were not concerned about losing a long time customer. Did NOTHING to assist in getting this issue off of our credit report over something that happened 13 YEARS AGO. Pulling every dime out of this credit union and will NEVER do business with them again. HORRIBLE.

  17. I'm attempting a charge back as my only recourse.

    I sent up an ACH for my first payment on a car loan. I called Customer Service to make sure it was set up correctly. They told me it was set up, however it would not start until the next month. In fact the gentleman guaranteed me it would not debit me until next month and I would need to set up another form of payment.

    So upon his advice and “guarantee”, I used my debit card( +$3 fee of course) and made my car payment. The very next day, guess what came out of my account? The ACH. The next 9 days, yes 9 days I was told several things. The best one being that they had credited my account and I could go to another credit union and get my money back since they can’t credit another financial institution.

    They lied. They never credited me. They put the money in my wife’s saving account. She had no idea they opened an account in her name and the best is, I am NOT ON THE ACCOUNT. So how is that a resolution? They took my money and put into someone else’s account that I have no access to. That is fraud. I’m attempting a charge back as my only recourse.

    Absolute worst bank I have ever had to deal with. I financed my auto loan through Bellco and tried to set up my automatic payment 3 weeks prior to my first payment being due. I had everything set up but the payment never left my account.

    I called the customer service line (which kept going dead every time it said it was transferring me to a representative) and I was informed that I would have to make my payment at a branch location which is a 200 mile round trip.

    So I made my payment and then re-set up my automatic payment. On the day the payment was supposed to leave my account nothing happened. So I called again and was told that everything was all set up, the payment would just be coming out later in the evening.

    The next day, still nothing. So I call again and this time I’m told that I need to mail in my payment but that by next month my automatic payment would go through normally.

    I mailed a check out the following morning and by that afternoon an automatic payment had been taken. I called Bellco AGAIN and I was told that my birthday is now incorrect in the system so I couldn’t be helped over the phone. So now I have to pay a $35 stop payment on the check so they don’t take my payment twice,

    AND I have to drive to the closest branch in order to get my account fixed once again, which will cost me about $65 in gas. I have never been more upset with a corporation in my entire life. If you have any other options, please DO NOT choose Bellco for your financial needs.

    The last 6 paragraph review of bellco was removed by the PR people at Bellco because they found a way to get to capitulate. So, because I am still a member, and still am suffering greatly at the hands of Bellco, I demand the truth be exposed, so here are the facts: I live in Arizona and never heard of bellco!

    When I bought my Lincoln (740 fico) the dealer told me they had sold the note to a FCU in Denver who was out looking for business, and they offered a quarter of one percent discount to get the loan. I protested because I told the finance mgr to use chase where I have my mortgage and have been very happy with for 40 years, just across from my house in fact , “to late… All done unless you want to cancel altogether and I would have a nightmare of paperwork here! I took the liberty of grabbing that .

    25 discount for you, come on! What the hell… I signed and left, the FIRST month … I was DOUBLE billed for a payment ! I’ll be damned ! I called and waited and waited and waited.,, then some girl answered and transferred me to another wait!

    Then some guy said it was a mistake (really?) and they would put the overage on my loan balance ! Not a refund, not on the next payment, just at the end of the loan! SOB ! They screwed my grocery budget for that month! I’ll be damned!

    Never been heavy handed like this! I sent a compliant to Power Toyota for ramrodding me into this den of bumbling incompetent IDOITS ! Now I paid off my bellco loan and fedexed a cashiers check to get the title on the way! I did get (after I begged) a letter from Jose stating the car has been paid in full, and I would receive a title in 15 days, that was 32 days ago! Still, no title, no one will talk to me,

    I raise holy hell and get transferred to a dead end extension ! People just have no idea what even common convenience store customer service is! I sold this vehicle to a disabled army vet who needed room for his wheelchair, this guy is only 28 and was injured in Afghanistan .

    He has been all over me for a title so he can get his handicapped plates! He can’t walk more than 10 feet and can’t reg the car without the promised title that Hellco cannot or will not produce!

    I have had so many “sincere” apologizes from underlings at bellco who inform me that “the guy in charge of that department won’t answer his phone ” in all my years alive, I have yet to ever run across a suck job like bellco to save my life!

    So, yesterday I hired an attorney to file against the very core of bellco, and alert the regulatory agency that oversees sloppy and poorly ran financial institutions ! If you use bellco for anything, bend over! Because you have never experienced unqualified and unmotivated employees like this!

  22. It was not my fault someone stole my info!!!

    I had my credit card hacked from a business and Bellco reimbursed me then two months later took it back. I believed that they were federally insured so I trusted they would stand behind me and my money. NOT SO!! Don’t trust BELLCO!! The worst ever bank!! It was not my fault someone stole my info!!!
