Amtrust tries to make it hard to get your insurance money

If I can label them with something more than worst, I would be happy to do that. My experience with Amtrust Insurance was a complete nightmare. I was forced to panic because of their irresponsible behaviour, or rather I would suggest, a pre-planned scam. Such a company with huge customer base and many locations in its kitty, cannot do such a blunder, until it wants to do it.

My car was hit by a taxi and unfortunately, it was insured by Amtrust Insurance. The fault was entirely of the taxi driver and I had proofs of it. So, I called this company to pay for my damages. They sent an adjuster, who took a look at my car and gave me an assessment of $3000. He said that there won’t be any problem and my check would reach me in couple of days.

After he left, I visited an auto workshop and asked for the damage amount. He gave me an estimate of $4800. I called the adjuster and told him about the difference. But, he asked me to see another workshop. I did as he said, but it took me 6-7 workshop’s visits to until find someone who was ready to give me some discount. Still, the cost was no close to $3000. However, I knew that the company was not going to take care of the difference.

I had called the adjuster in between as well to inform that I couldn’t find a workshop offering that amount, but he ignored my calls. So, I decided that I would accept $3000. I asked them to send me the check. They did send me a check with wrong name and address on it. I called them to sort the matter.

They sent another check, with right name but a missing apartment number. I called them again. I was surprised to see their cold response. However, without bothering much, I asked them to send the check again.

The third time, they sent me a check with right street address, but wrong apartment number. So, after three consecutive mistakes, I was still not able to get the amount. I wanted to fix my car. So, I did it myself and still waiting for them to send me the right check.

Do you believe that a company with such a stature can do such silly mistakes? If yes, then I would like to work with companies with less customers and not much system to take care of silly updates.

  1. Complete Scam!

    These scammers took my premium and deposit then cancelled my policy 4 days later without notifying me and still has not refunded my money. Do not do business with these scam artist. I’m reporting them for fraud to my bank to have the charges reversed.

  2. This company is in the claims denial business, BEWARE!

    I lost a business in the California fires. Since then I’ve fought with them at every turn. They clearly want to make it so tough that I just settle and go away. If I wasn’t going into court, I’d say more. Lets just say that they are horrible and don’t want to pay. They have done some very unethical shady pratices that I can share after the lawsuit is over. Stay tuned. I want everyone to know.

  3. Work Comp With No Employees

    I’m an officer on our board of our condo association. I called to find out why we were paying for a work comp policy when we don’t have any employees. I was actually told by a “customer service” rep that they can’t discuss policy info with a customer, that we had to call our agent. Our agent stated that it covers vendors on our property that don’t have insurance. I read our policy thoroughly and that is not so. We will not be renewing this policy and will relate to our agent that we will not do business with this company in the future.
